01 July 2020, Khunti: Mr. Badal Patralekh (Agriculture Minister, Jharkhand) has distributed paddy-maize seeds & pesticides among 40 marginalized farmers during a program organized under joint auspices of district administration, Sewa Welfare Society and NBJK.
Murhu Nari Shakti Kisan Producer Company Limited, an apex community institution promoted by NBJK with support of CInI-Tata Trusts has identified about 800 such tillers and many of them are reverse migrant households who are coming back to villages due to COVID-19 pandemic. MNSKPCL encourages them to be engaged with cultivation. The seeds & pesticides were made available by Bayer Crop Science. To strengthen the move, district agriculture department has provided 4 quintals seed of pigeon pea to NBJK for aspirant farmers. The farmers are getting masks also.
The agriculture minister was accompanied by Mr. Arvind Mishra (DDC), Mr. Hemant Sathi (SDM), Mr. Kali Charan Munda, Mr. Mohit Purty and others on the occasion.
As another development, 50 selected farmers from Adki, Murhu, Khunti, Karra and Torpa blocks got training on lemongrass farming and hon. minister dispensed improved seeds to them.
30 June 2020, Hazaribag: District Unit of Lok Samiti has organized foundation day program at its office premises. Mr. Girija Satish (National President, Lok Samiti) hoisted organization’s flag in presence of workers and addressed them.
He introduced about Lok Samiti and its founder Loknayak JayPrakash “JP” who used the term Lok Samiti or People’s Committee as a peaceful & non-political body to control the government. JP was invited to communicate with the elected members of Lok Sabha when emergency was over and Janta Party Government came in power, Mr. Girija Satish clarified and said that around the year 1980, we started Lok Samiti in Hazaribag district and soon it expanded in 40 districts of unified Bihar including Chatra, Ranchi and other places. This could increase people’s awareness, they started questioning related to welfare schemes and many small VOs played significant role in the development, though got a setback as the Government has imposed many rules & regulations upon voluntary sector, he stated.
Lok Samiti’s national president said about the significant advocacy like holding of Panchayat election in Bihar-Jharkhand after a gap of 3 decades, liquor prohibition in Bihar and he appealed the Government of Jharkhand to ban liquor in the state. We need a lot of improvements in our administrative, political, judicial systems and still looking for stable solutions, Mr. Girija Satish expressed his deep concern.
On this occasion, Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Founder Member, Hazaribag District Lok Samiti) said that Lok Samiti aims for equality based social structure and our programs are dedicated to bring some societal changes always.

25 June 2020, Dumka: NBJK organized a media sensitisation event on its response to COVID-19 and about the steps to follow RPD Act 2016. Mr. Anand Abhinav (Program Director, NBJK) addressed a group of local media people and members of DPOs promoted under the program of CBID with support of CBM.
He thanked DPOs’ members those played crucial role in awareness generation upon the issues of mask wearing- soap hand washing and social distancing. The members have stitched and distributed 7449 masks among the community & front-line Corona warriors, he appreciated. Also the DPOs leaders shared their activities during lock down period for Corona prevention and execution strategy of RPD Act 16.
Mr. Anand Abhinav said about the specific campaign of COVID-19 Response, which provided immediate relief to the people affected by Covid and subsequent Lockdown. This includes immediate access of relief materials by the sufferers and mass awareness upon preventive measures for Corona. He informed journalists that the organization has distributed ration-hygiene kits among 2252 people (including PwDs) and demonstrated hand washing with soap before them.
It dispensed food materials among 804 families (744 PwDs), linked 317 persons (114 PwDs) with MNREGA scheme, submitted on-line UDID applications for 1038 PwDs and facilitated livelihood for 653 people including 377 PwDs as with seeds of seasonal vegetables, paddy & maize for farm based activities in time, Mr. Abhinav explained.
NBJK has provided ration-sanitation items for migrant laborers at 2 quarantine centers in Jama block, he said and added that NBJK handed over N-95 masks (100 pcs), surgical masks (500 pcs), surgical gloves (10,000 pcs), sanitizer (107 litres), infrared thermometers (9 pcs), oxygen cylinders (2 pcs), pulse oxymeters (15 pcs) to Dumka sadar hospital & blocks. Besides this, Rs. 5000 for each has been deposited in bank accounts of 21 poor families to rehabilitate the earning hands with their livelihoods.
Mr. Anand Abhinav expressed sincere gratitude to Aditya Birla Capital, Give India, HSBC, CBM and DFAT, the agencies those supported the whole campaign and spent around Rs. 10 lakhs cumulatively. Total 18 media persons and DPOs’ leaders from project locations have participated on the occasion. Team NBJK was contributed by Mr. Sudarshan Pandey (Branch Manager, NBJK-Dumka), Mr. Amrit Paswan (CBID Program Manager), Mr. Tushar Pal (Project Coordinator) and Mr. Rajkumar (Spl. Educator).
22-23 June 2020, Silaunja (Bodhgaya): Goonj-New Delhi and Action Village India-UK have provided edibles to orphan children of NBJK run Lord Buddha Home for Children.
Goonj arranged Flour (500 kg), Rice (300 kg), Pulse (80 kg), Mustard Oil (30 litres) and Potato (500 kg) for the orphanage. While AVI supported for Flour (1.5 quintal), Rice (900 kg), Pulse (240 kg), Mustard Oil (90 litres) and Potato (1.5 quintal). The food items have been distributed among house-mothers in presence of Md. Nayeem (Manager, LBHC), Mr. Anil Tripathee (Principal, Komal Pujan Public School) and Mr. Lalan Thakur (Office In-charge, LBHC).
Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) expressed sincere gratitude towards Goonj and Action Village India for the support they made available for orphan children of LBHC during this Corona crisis. The timely support will feed our children for four months; he said and thanked both the organizations. Mr. Satish Girija appealed all individuals & institutional donors for help to run LBHC smoothly as 55 destitute children from marginalized families live here and pursue their school education.
19 June 2020, Hazaribag: With support of Central Social Welfare Board, Govt. of India & Jharkhand State Social Welfare Board, NBJK run Family Counseling Centre has called it’s Sub-committee meeting in the premises of Women Police Station, Hazaribag.
Ms Amita Lakra (Deputy Superintendent of Police, Crime Control Room) has presided the meeting and expressed serious concern over rising incidents of family dispute that affected our daily life in urban & rural areas of Hazaribag district. The Sub-committee members have supported her view and constituted a Family Welfare Committee unanimously. The FWC will meet once in a month at Women Police Station to resolve the cases of family disputes. Besides Ms Amita Lakra (Dy. SP), Mr. Krishna Kumar Saha (Officer In-Charge, WPS) and Mrs. Munni K. Devi (AASI), other members of FCC Sub-Committee like Ms Veena Sethi (Advocate), Mr. Tulsi Dubey (Advocate), Mrs. Sheela Kumari (Secretary, Stri Shakti), Mrs. Sharda Devi (Secretary, Sashakt Nari Utthan), Mrs. Meera Gupta (Counselor, FCC) and Mr. Sanjay Kumar (Counselor, FCC) will look after the matter.
In the meeting, Sub-committee members have discussed upon quarterly report (February-April 2020) of FCC. During the period, total 38 cases of family disputes have been registered at FCC. There were cases of Couple Controversy (18), Alcoholic Violence (9), Extra-Marital Relation (1), Differences with Son & Daughter-in-law (9) and Land Dispute (1). Total 26 cases have been settled, Mrs. Meera Gupta informed the members. Also Mrs. Neera Rezina Purti (AASI) and Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) have participated in the meeting.
15-16 June 2020, Bahera (Chauparan, Hazaribag): NBJK run LNJP Eye Hospital has organized a two days workshop upon Cataract Screening.
The 2-phased event was accomplished successfully by following the guidelines for COVID-19 with social distancing and others.
There were 43 participants including RMPs, social workers & students.
Mr. Karunanidhi, Mr. Sudip Abhishek Bara, Mr. Vikant Singh and Mr. Ambar Nidhi (all from LNJPEH) have served as resource persons during the workshop.
05-12 June 2020, Hazaribag-Khunti-Dumka: On 5th June at Bahera (Chauparan, Hazaribag), NBJK run Surekha Prakashbhai Public School has celebrated World Environment Day. Ms Rina Pandey (Principal, SPPS) planted saplings of mango & rosewood inside the campus and appealed to enrich biodiversity.
On the same day at Khunti under Menstrual Hygiene Management Program with support of Tata Trusts & CInI Cell, an orientation workshop took place for stakeholders at CHC Khunti.
On 7th in Dumka district with support of Aditya Birla Capital, NBJK made available 1 Thermal Scanner, 5 litres Sanitizer & 50 pcs Masks to the BDO of Kathikund block. These will be used by front-line corona warriors and to monitor the people staying at quarantine centre. During 8-10 June at Jarmundi & Sadar blocks of Dumka with support of GiveIndia & HSBC, NBJK distributed Ration Packets among 200 PwDs/marginalized families. Each one was provided Rice (10 kg), Pulse (2 kg), Soap (2 pcs) and Mask (2 pcs). Also for prevention of COVID-19, an awareness campaign is going on in the villages. In the same period under the program of CBID (Community Based Inclusive Development) for PwDs with support of CBM India, 150 farmer/PwDs members of Jagriti Kisan Clubs in Kathikund & Jarmundi blocks have received maize & green vegetables’ seeds as a support to their farm based activities. On 12 June at Jarmundi, 280 Masks have been provided to the CDPO of Jarmundi block. These are for Aanganwadi Workers who work as frontline corona warriors. The DPOs, SHGs and the PwDs have made the masks under CBID program.
On 10th June in Khunti district with support of GiveIndia, NBJK provided 10 kg Rice, 2 kg Pulse, 1 Mask & 1 Soap to each among 100 vulnerable households across villages of Murhu block. Most of the beneficiaries are victims of reverse migration due to COVID-19.
On 12th June the campaign of breakfast kits distribution at quarantine centres ended in Hazaribag & Ramgrah districts. This was supported by Mr. Jayant Sinha (Hon. MP, Hazaribag) and Care Today separately. Each kit contains Sattu (1.4 kg), Mudhi (525 grams), Salt (200 grams), Onion (1 kg), Soap (1 pc) & mask (1 pc). About 10 thousand quarantined persons have received the breakfast kits during this campaign started on 2nd June.
2-4 June 2020, Barhi & Padma Blocks (Hazaribag): On 02 June, by courtesy of Mr. Jayant Sinha (Hon. MP-Hazaribag), NBJK started dry breakfast kits distribution campaign for migrant persons quarantined at different centers in Barhi & Padma blocks of Hazaribag district.
At govt. middle school-Barsot, middle school-Srinagar, high school Kariyatpur, primary school Koriyadih, Navasrijit primary school Bariyattha, panchayat bhawan Padma and panchayat bhawan Saraiya Quarantine centers, total 308 persons have been provided dry breakfast kits containing Sattu (200 gm x 7 packets), Mudhi (175 gm x 3 packets), Salt (200 gm), Onion (1 kg), Soap (1 pc) & mask (1 pc). On 03 June, 660 quarantined fellows have received breakfast kits at their centers based at Romi, Saraiya, Surajpura, Bihari, Sonpura, Majgawan, Bundu villages. Likewise on 4th, 1045 kits distributed at Vishnugarh, Govindpur, Bakaspura & Charnakiya based quarantine centers in Vishnugarh block of the district.
Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) appreciated Hon. MP for the support and said about the target of breakfast kits to 7000 & 3000 quarantined persons in Hazaribag and Ramgarh districts respectively. Messrs Alok Toppo, Om Prakash Gupta, Rajkumar Gupta, Rahul Besra, Ganesh Yadav, Raju Sharma, Pintu Kumar and Sanjay Ram play important role in breakfast distribution campaign.
2 – 4 June 2020, Sadar & Churchu Blocks (Hazaribag): On 2nd June with support of India Today TV, Care Today & Aaj Tak, NBJK has distributed dry breakfast kits among 320 quarantined persons at the centers of Karwekala, Silwar Polytechnic, Silwar Kala, Meru, Banahapa, Amnari, Chutiyaro, Singhani, Badasi, Dumar in Hazaribag Sadar block.
Each kit contains Sattu (200 gm x 7 packets), Mudhi (175 gm x 3 packets), Salt (200 gm), Onion (1 kg), Soap (1 pc) & mask (1 pc). Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) and Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) have led the distribution team. On 3rd June, at Sakhiya, Baheri, Marheta, Pauta, Gurhet, Morangi and Naya Khap panchayats, 171 quarantined persons have received the breakfast kits. On 4th in Churchu block of the district, distribution of 686 breakfast kits have been reported from Churchu, Aango, Bahera, Charhi, Basadih, Hendegarha, Karukhap panchayats and the process will continue in Indra and Jarba panchayats of the block tomorrow.
Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) has thanked India Today TV, Care Today and Aaj Tak for the support in this crucial time of COVID-19 and appealed quarantined people to follow safety rules in interest of their family members & villages. He said that NBJK targets to provide breakfast kits to 7000 people in Hazaribag and 3000 in Ramgarh districts those staying at quarantine centers. Most of them are migrant workers coming from metro cities or other states. Messrs Shankar Rana, Vinod Rana, Varun Yadav, Shubham Kumar, Bhuneshwar Prasad and Prayag Mahto are members of the team constituted for this campaign.
Khunti, 28 May 2020, Khunti: Under the program of Mission 2020: Lakhpati Kisan-Smart Village with support of CInI Cell & Tata Trusts, NBJK has promoted observance of International Menstrual Hygiene Day by women & adolescent girls at Bichhna and other villages in Murhu block.
On this occasion, the members of Farmer Producer Groups, Murhu Nari Shakti Kisan Producer Co. Ltd. and village girls have been sensitized upon the issues related to menstrual health management by Ms Priyanka Mohanti (Tata Trusts) & Ms Roshni Toppo. They met the groups, appealed them to take special care of their menstrual health, organized on line quiz competition and arranged doubts clarification session with Dr. (Mrs.) Surabhi Singh (Consultant, Tata Trusts).
The day was celebrated by the girls & women; they made Rangolis and sanitary pads in home with available cloths. The event was focused upon to reduce stigma/taboo and to establish a scientific temper around menstruation.
