03-04 March 2021, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): Under #UshaSilaiSchool Program with support of Usha International, 2 days residential training held for 20 trained women-girls from Usha Silai Schools running at different villages in Hazaribag Sadar, Daroo, Katkamsaandi and Katkamdaag blocks of Hazaribag district.

Mr. Prabhunath Sharma (Treasurer, NBJK) has inaugurated the event and said that we aim towards self-dependence of the beneficiaries through skill development. Mr. Felix Tirkey (Usha International) was present on the occasion. As the resource persons Mrs. Pammi Devi and Mrs. Pooja Devi have introduced the trainees about specifics of various apparels for women-men.

Each trainee has received a training certificate, a guidebook on tailoring and a signboard to start her own work. Tomorrow we are going to organize the training for another batch; Mr. Shailesh Kumar (Program Associate, NBJK) has informed and said that the program is dedicated to financial self-reliance of rural women.

Bokaro District Lok Samiti Holds #FreedomFromIntoxicants Convention @JBFMumbai

20 February 2021, Jainamore (Bokaro): Bokaro district Lok Samiti organized a convention on “Freedom from Intoxicants” at Prajapati Bhawan with support of NBJK & Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation. Mr. Girija Satish (National President, Lok Samiti) was keynote speaker who said about the loss caused by liquor & other intoxicants as severe damage to our family system with rising crime against women. He mentioned experience of Sampurna Parivartan Yatra by Lok Samiti in Bihar which made people aware and they compelled state government to enforce anti-liquor law there. We want peaceful development and liquor is a main obstacle on the way that needs total boycott, he pointed out. The national president of Lok Samiti stated that we want complete prohibition of all intoxicants in not only Bihar or Jharkhand but in entire nation and most of the women support this idea. Mr. Girija Satish told that about three years back Lok Samiti’s Sharab Mukti Yatra got tremendous response from women in tribal dominated districts as they are real well-wishers of their families, husbands & sons. Liquor affects our young generation severely; people take it in religious functions even and the number of mental patients is increasing by imitating western individualist culture, Mr. Girija Satish warned. He praised the people for support, demanded a strong law on liquor prohibition in Jharkhand and said about state level programs in future.

During the convention, Mr. Bhola Datta charged the government for open vending of intoxicants and objected upon social acceptance of liquor. Mr. Arun Mahto offered his support to anti-liquor campaign by Lok Samiti and Dr. Shyam Kumar Bharti said about possible positive change in social milieu if liquor can be prohibited. Mr. Thakur Deo Mahto placed examples of some families ruined by liquor with untimely diseases and death. Mrs. Kaushalya Devi said about alcohol caused crimes and cautioned about cottage industry of liquor making-selling at various places.

Mr. Vinod Mahto has blamed the government for promotion of liquor and Mr. Sardayal Mahto suggested for teams in villages for people’s awareness. Mr. Mahaveer insisted for ban upon liquor & other intoxicants while Mr. Basudeb Sharma rejected state govt.’s policy to open more liquor shops in villages. Mrs. Gayatri Devi said about the need of strengthening women organizations, their legal protection and support from media. Mr. Vinay Kumar (Yoga Teacher) focused upon bad effects of liquor and said about yogic exercises to get rid of the addiction. Mr. Teeka Prasad had doubt about an influential gang of liquor mafia and asked for action by the state government.

Mr. Shankar Rana (Co-ordinator, JSLS) read out the memorandum to Chief Minister of Jharkhand and ensured support from the participants. Mr. C. A. Kumar presided the program Mr. Umashankar Thakur anchored the proceeding and Mr. Vijay Kumar delivered vote of thanks. Mr. Vijay Thakur, Mr. Sanjay Singh and Mr. Ramesh Kumar have contributed to the program attended by around 130 delegates of Lok Samiti.

Koderma District #LokSamiti Convention on Freedom from Intoxicants @JBFMumbai

18 February 2021, Koderma: With support of NBJK & Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation-Mumbai, Koderma District Lok Samiti has organized a convention on Freedom From Intoxicants at local Barnwal hospice. Mr. Girija Satish (President, National Lok Samiti) was the chief guest on this occasion and inaugurated the program.

He said that any alert society and government must keep its citizens safe from liquor or any other intoxicants and applauded Bihar govt. for anti-liquor law which stopped free movement of drunkards on road and a better environment has been created there. Earlier people used to say about revenue loss and recession in tourism but such assumptions proved to be failed, he pointed out. The national president of Lok Samiti was of the view that a strong anti-liquor law is needed in not only Jharkhand but across India for our moral, social and economic development. He blamed liquor for inflaming superstition along with other malpractices and for spoiling of young generation now addicted to drugs even. He suggested to link religious leaders with Lok Samiti’s mass awareness drive against intoxicants and opined that individualist culture of foreign promotes liquor/drugs and people are suffering from mental diseases while there is no place for such things in our collective way of life.

Earlier Mr. Manoj Dangi (General Secretary, Koderma District Lok Samiti) welcomed Mr. Girija Satish, honored him by adorning with shawl and expressed solidarity with anti-liquor campaign by strengthening of the organization. Mr. Shankar Rana (Coordinator, JSLS) referred to Sampurna Parivartan Yatra by Lok Samiti in Bihar before enforcement of anti-liquor law and got support from the audience over Lok Samiti’s memorandum to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for liquor prohibition in the province. Mrs. Gauri Devi explained about anti-liquor campaign in Lariyadih village and charged men generally for non-cooperation. Ms Jyoti Kumari called liquor as the root cause of anti-women crimes and demanded to ban this evil immediately. Mrs. Soniya Devi praised for intoxicants free family & society as the first step to peace & prosperity. Mrs. Kiran Devi insisted to disallow all types of addiction and Mrs. Malti Devi talked about insensitive attitude of administration when villagers have tried to ban liquor in six villages. District Lok Samiti has honored these women and Mr. Musafir Ram for their effort to discard liquor from the villages.

Mr. Sanjay Sajan (Journalist) has focused upon bad effects of liquor and assured to support the campaign. Mr. Devnandan Yadav (Secretary, Satgawan Block Lok Samiti) said that intoxicants free families develop easily with education and prestige. Mr. Bhola Yadav and Mr. Ashok Dhobi (Members-Executive Committee, KDLS) appealed the people to support Lok Samiti for freedom from intoxicants campaign. Likewise Mr. Satish Kumar, Mr. Gautam Rana, Mr. Sanjay Munna (office bearers, Press Club) and Mr. Kunti Kumar Sahu (Media Coordinator, KDLS) have supported the issue raised by Lok Samiti.

The program was anchored by Ms Shabnam Arsi and concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Manoj Dangi. There were about 115 delegates of Lok Samiti, mostly women have participated in the event.

Tailoring Training for Tribal Women @UshaInternational @UshaIntl

17 February 2021, Ranchi: As an activity of NBJK run Usha Silai School program with support of Usha International-New Delhi, a residential training program for tribal women on tailoring & sewing machine maintenance started today. There are 10 participants in the training and these women belong to Murhu & Khunti blocks of Khunti district.

Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK), Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Treasurer, NBJK), Mr. Felix Tirkey (Usha International) and Mrs. Sandhya Agrawal (Instructor) have inaugurated the event jointly. Mr. Girija Satish said about usefulness as well as need of tailoring skill for livelihood purpose and appreciated Usha International for the initiative to empower women. Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma asked the trainees to devote much time in learning of new skills for better output that creates more demand and brings additional income ultimately. Mr. Felix Tirkey explained about the program now became popular in neighboring countries like Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka also.

The training will end on 25th February and in the meantime trainees will learn about installation-repair of the sewing machine along with making of different kinds of dress & useful items. Mr. Shailesh Kumar has coordinated the affair with help of Mr. Anup, Mr. Dhiraj and Mr. Sanjay.

ST Women Going through Training on Tailoring-cum-Machine Maintenance, will Get Sewing Machine @UshaInternational @UshaItl

10-16 February 2021, Shantman Nagar (Ranchi): Under NBJK run Usha Classical Silai School program with support of Usha International-New Delhi, one week residential training for 20 ST women is going on at NBJK-Ranchi premises. There are 20 trainees as 10 from Bandgaon block of West Singhbhum district and 10 from Palkot block of Gumla district.

The training course was inaugurated by Mr. P. N. Sharma and Mr. Felix Tirkey from NBJK & Usha International respectively. Initially Mr. Kamaljeet Sharma (Usha International) has facilitated the trainees upon sewing machine installation and skills to repair common problems. As the trainers Mrs. Sandhya Agrawal and Mrs. Pammi Devi are sharing their expertise with the trainees to design, cutting & tailoring of suit, salwar, mask, bag, purse, shirt-pants, petticoat, blouse etc. After the training, all the trainees will get a sewing machine for each to start Usha Silai School at their places as the teachers.

Mr. Shailesh Kumar (NBJK-Hazaribag) has coordinated the event while Mr. Anup Chakraborty, Mr. Dhiraj Sinha and Mr. Sanjay Kumar (all from NBJK-Ranchi) have contributed to logistics.

#LokSamiti Convention to Make Intoxicants Free Jharkhand @JBFMumbai

13 February 2021, Giridih: With support of Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra and Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation-Mumbai, District Lok Samiti-Giridih has organized a convention upon Making of Intoxicants Free Jharkhand. The program held at Hotel Mansarovar, Jhanda Chowk (Giridih) and inaugurated by Mr. Girija Satish (National President, Lok Samiti) who explained Lok Samiti’s view point to make India free from all kinds of intoxicants and appreciated Bihar Govt. as liquor is legally banned in the state. He said that intoxicants free family, society and nation can be developed in fact because this will improve financial condition, may check accidents-crimes and bound to bring prosperity easily. Our youths should adopt good habits to shun vindictive attitude and to move towards holiness as all religious faiths have same message to uplift humanity, he suggested. Mr. Girija Satish appealed the Government of Jharkhand to make a strict law against liquor and to ensure implementation of the same without any fear or favor.

Mrs. Bobby Devi (Ex-Mukhiya) has referred to her previous efforts to oust liquor from villages with support of women but blamed local police & administration for their non-cooperation to the campaign. Mr. Ramdev Vishwabandhu advised for anti-liquor resolution by every Gram Sabha as a community initiative to make intoxicants free Jharkhand. Mr. Jaswant Kumar (Divyang Samajik Seva Sansthan) said about the need to prohibit liquor as this spreads disturbance and affect children’s studies badly. Mrs. Usha Kumari (Vice President, District Lok Samiti) has demanded to ban liquor from immediate effect as it inflames road accidents and heinous crimes against children even. Mrs. Pramila Devi (Former Mukhiya) talked about lack of awareness among people that obstructed her election chances as she has launched anti-liquor drive in villages. Mr. Praveen Kumar (BAMCEF) applauded the convention’s objective and supported for legal restriction upon liquor in Jharkhand. Mr. Pashupati Nath Sharma (State Secretary, JSLS) shared his experience about liquor prohibition in three villages by Lok Samiti. Mr. Shankar Rana (Coordinator, JSLS) read out the memorandum by Lok Samiti before the audience and all took oath to not take liquor. Mr. Vipin Yadav (Advocate, DLSA) said about moral as well as legal deterrent to boycott liquor.

VOs Meet with Magsaysay Awardee #AnshuGupta @goonj.org @goonj

09 February 2021, Hazaribagh: NBJK organized a meeting of chief functionaries of VOs from Jharkhand with Mr. Anshu Gupta (Founder-Goonj, New Delhi), a Magsaysay awardee. Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) has welcomed Mr. Anshu Gupta & Team Goonj with bouquet and honored them by adorning with shawls.

Mr. Anshu Gupta said about the need to change some terms like charity, donor, recipient etc because self respect of the people for whom we work must be valued to bring actual change. He said that Goonj contributes to uplift quality of lives by using the under-utilized urban material as a tool to trigger development with dignity across the country in partnership of 465 VOs. It’s noteworthy that during COVID relief campaign, Goonj became a medium to distribute 50 lakh tons of food grain and it makes 6000 tons unutilized materials useful every year to benefit around 27 lakh people in more than 4600 villages.

Mr. Anshu Gupta talked about the need to work in Jharkhand intensively upon the issues like waste management, agriculture, road, water, forest, women, children, disability etc. We can transform the labour of our target group as a resource, can make a small bathroom in every house for women or even construct community bathrooms for them at residential areas and may facilitate their menstrual health management in a better way, he pointed out. Mr. Anshu Gupta requested VOs representatives for innovation by better use of unutilized materials and stated that despite amazing work on COVID relief by voluntary sector, recent amendments of FCRA are like a setback for VOs and we all should raise our voice collectively.

Mr. Satish Girija has thanked Mr. Anshu Gupta, team Goonj along with participant VOs, suggested Water Management as a core issue for VOs in Jharkhand this year and expressed hope for support from Goonj. Also Mrs. Minakshi (Co-founder, Goonj), Mr. Suresh Kumar, Mr. Shivji, Mr. Ajeet (all from Goonj) and representatives of 25 VOs from Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Bokaro, Chatra, Giridih, Lohardaga and Gumla districts of Jharkhand were present during the program. #FamilyCounselingCenter Sub-Committee Meets @MinistryWCD

31 January 2021, Hazaribagh: The Sub-Committee meeting of Family Counseling Center run by NBJK with support of Central Social Welfare Board, Delhi & Jharkhand State Social Welfare Board, Ranchi held at the premises of Women Police Station, Hazaribagh.

Ms Binu Kodiyar (Officer In-Charge, WPS) chaired the meeting and assured that if FCC finds any case much complicated, WPS will support it to settle with proper investigation. Ms Purnima Kumari (ASI) and Mr. Pancham Marandi from WPS opined that the victims should get help to move forward if social pressure doesn’t work effectively. Mrs. Usha Bahen (Anupam Mahila Chetna Samiti), Mr. Satish Girija (NBJK) and other members have suggested that local women SHGs should be mobilized to solve family problems.

Mrs. Meera Gupta (Counselor, FCC) has tabled FCC’s quarterly report from October-December 2020 before the sub-committee members and said that total 41 cases have been registered during the period and we could resolve 18 cases through mutual negotiation. Out of all registered cases, there were cases like marital dispute (6), conflict with In-laws (9), quarrel with son & daughter-in-law (4), alcoholic violence (8), extra-marital relation/second marriage by husband (5) and others (4), she explained.

Lok Samiti Demands Liquor Prohibition on #GandhiMartyrdomDay

30 January 2021, Hazaribagh: On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary Martyrs Day and with support of NBJK & Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation @JBFMumbai Hazaribag District Lok Samiti has organized an All Religions Equanimity Prayer Meeting-cum-Fast program at Gandhi Memorial site campus, Kumhartoli and appealed to make Intoxication Free Jharkhand.

Mr. Girija Satish (President, National Lok Samiti) introduced the theme and said that Gandhiji was totally against liquor and at all times he wished for liquor prohibition in India. This devastates our young generation and blocks the progress of society, state and nation; he pointed out and appealed the state government to enforce a strong law against liquor in Jharkhand. Mr. Gautam Sagar Rana (Ex-MLA) called alcohol a curse and said about it’s more as well as unsafe consumption by poor people which results as tragedy of disease, death & scattered family. He suggested banning liquor with people’s awareness, their consciousness and related law. Mr. Swarup Chand Jain (Former Public Prosecutor) expressed deep concern over the government’s apathy towards Gandhi’s dream of liquor free India and said that it was better to continue undeclared ban upon alcohol initiated during Covid lockdown.

Mrs. Roshni Tirkey (Mayor, HMC) has supported the demand of liquor free Jharkhand and assured to communicate with people’s representatives & the government. Mr. Shamsher Alam has justified liquor prohibition for a healthy community life. Dr. Vishwanath Azad favored for uprooting of the menace while Mr. Krishna Ram Thakur & Mr. Jagdish Sahoo (Retd. Teachers) have blamed elites behind this disgusting malpractice. Mr. Sumer Sethi (Gorakshini Samiti) welcomed liquor prohibition in larger interest of society as this will check killing creatures too. Mr. Awdhesh Chandra Pandey suggested for an agitation against liquor and Mrs. Suhasini Tudu advised for livelihood options for people in villages as they make or sell local liquor for money.

NBJK Celebrates 72nd Republic Day

Hazaribag-Bahera-Ranchi-Khunti-Dumka-Patna, 26 January 2021: NBJK has celebrated the nation’s 72^nd Republic Day at coordination office-Amritnagar, head office-Bahera and branch offices of Ranchi, Khunti, Dumka, Patna.

At CO, Mr. Girija Satish (President-NBJK & National Lok Samiti) unfurled the tricolor and dedicated the day to the farmers of India. In his speech after national anthem, Mr. Girija Satish referred students’ movement, Anna movement and now farmers’ movement as the landmarks of a democratic India after independence. He said about bad effects of new agriculture laws upon farmers as they may lose their land and will be laborers. He warned about hoarding of farm produces by big traders and demanded for legal provision of MSP to farmers as they don’t get even cost price. Our government is not the almighty, it too can commit mistake and should rectify that, Mr. Girija Satish pointed out.

Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary-NBJK & President-Jharkhand State Lok Samiti) has supported farmers’ movement and appealed the government to hear our food providers. He mentioned about the background of NBJK‘s initiation and greeted all workers as the organization is completing its 50 years successfully. Also he talked about the achievements of programs like schools, eye hospitals, livelihood promotion and COVID-19 relief work by NBJK. Mr. Satish Girija assured to amplify people’s voice through Lok Samiti and demanded to ban liquor.

Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Treasurer-NBJK) has termed Republic Day as a resolution day to remember the determination of our freedom fighters. He appealed the people to decide a goal and to follow that with dedication. Also Mr. Gandharv Gaurav and Mr. Anand Abhinav (both Program Directors) have expressed their views on the occasion.
