12 June 2024, Deoghar-Jamui: In a concerted effort to address the water scarcity in rural areas of Deoghar and Jamui districts, NBJK in collaboration with SBI Foundation, has made significant strides through SBI Gram Seva and SBI Gram Saksham projects. Operating under the CSR initiative of the State Bank of India, these projects have brought about remarkable improvements in water accessibility and conservation.

In 10 villages of Deoghar Sadar & Chakai blocks during Oct’17-Dec’22, SBI Gram Seva project has ensured installation of 36 new hand pumps. Additionally, 162 existing hand pumps were repaired, significantly enhancing the safe drinking water supply. The renovation of 69 wells further supported water conservation efforts. A pond was also rehabilitated and integrated with a lift irrigation system. To ensure drinking water availability for school children, submersible pumps, water tanks, and taps were installed in the kitchens of government schools across six villages. A total of 7523 trees have been planted in the target villages so that the environment can be improved.

Encouraged by the success of the SBI Gram Seva, SBIF and NBJK initiated SBI Gram Saksham project last year. This targets 20 villages in Deoghar Sadar and Chakai blocks, aiming to bolster water resource management and agricultural irrigation. So far, 100 wells have been renovated, benefiting local farmers with improved irrigation facilities. Additionally, 23 ponds have been deepened to mitigate agricultural water shortages. The distribution of electric motor pumps to 300 farmers has further empowered agricultural activities.

These initiatives have collectively improved drinking water availability, water conservation, irrigation, and environmental protection across 30 villages, bringing substantial benefits to local farmers and communities.
