26 May, Hazaribag: Family Counseling Center (FCC), the program run by NBJK with support of Central and Jharkhand State Social Welfare Board works for strong family bond since 1993. It stands with women and children in time of crisis and looks for amicable resolution that has saved more than 1500 families in the district. The very case of marital dispute between Rani Devi (wife) and Satish Sharma (husband) has been solved today under the program and family members from both sides have appeared before our Counselors.
Mrs. Meera Gupta (Head Counselor) and Mr. Sanjay Kumar (Counselor) have talked to them separately and together to find out the way out during a number of sessions held on before. It was a typical case of conflicts around ego, generation gap and hegemony among members of a joint family where people have expectations from each other and a proper way of communication matters definitely, especially when you deal with elders. Rani Devi belongs to village-Mandai, Hazaribag and after marriage, she settled to her In-laws place at the locality called River side, Patratu in Ramgarh district. Her mother-in-law helped her to get a job to run an Aanganwadi Center there. About 8 years ago, Rani and Satish were married and blessed with two children. There are two younger brothers of Satish, who work in other cities but their wives live with Rani and rest of the family. These brothers earn more than Satish (who works in a shop) and help their parents frequently.
Ever since Rani became a working lady, they seek for her financial support to the family and of course her mother-in-law expects more gentleness in her behavior as she cared for her. Our counselors have listened to all and facilitated them to hold each other’s hand for their family and old aged parents.
