25 August 2022, Hazaribagh: Under auspices of National Commission for Women, a Consultation held with the NGOs running Family Counselling Centres and NBJK was represented by Dr. Sanjay Kumar (Counsellor, FCC with NBJK).
On 22nd August, Ms. Rekha Sharma (Hon. Chairperson, NCW) inaugurated the program and said that we need some changes to improve efficiency of FCCs and now these will work under guidance of NCW. The Centres will report to the Commission every month and these are supposed to deal with the cases related to sexual harassment of women on priority basis.
It’s noteworthy that earlier FCCs were working under the aegis of Central as well as State Social Welfare Boards.
Dr. Shekhar Sheshadri (Former Director, NIMHANS-Bangalore) suggested for developing a Standard Operating Procedure for Counsellors keeping view of effective resolution of cases.
Also senior officials of NCW like Ms. Meeta Rajivlochan (Member Secretary), Mr. A. Asholi Chalai (Joint Secretary), Dr. Shah Alam (Special Rapporteur) and many prominent women social workers have contributed to the event.
During open session, Dr. Sanjay Kumar (NBJK) demanded for liquor prohibition as it’s a major factor behind anti-women crimes and said about need of pre-marriage counselling to avoid marital disputes.
