24 May, Hazaribag: A Mental Health Camp was organized at NBJK Coordination Office premises with support of RINPAS (Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry & Allied Sciences), Kanke, Ranchi. RINPAS has sent the team of doctors and support staffs for this outreach camp like every month which is crucial for more than 850 people suffering from different psychotic and neurotic disorders e.g. bipolar, paranoia, insomnia, amnesia, stress, depression, anxiety, epilepsy, schizophrenia, substance abuse etc.
A crowd of carers and patients from not only Hazaribag but other neighboring districts namely Koderma, Chatra, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad or even from border districts of Bihar have come here for treatment. Mr. Guneshwar Rana (village-Churchu, panchayat-Nagwan, block-Hazaribag Sadar) confirms about his successful treatment at the camp as he was a victim of personality disorder but proper medication and his caring wife Mrs. Asha Devi have supported him to defy such deep-rooted crisis. Now he teaches Maths in a private school at his own village.
Its worth mentioning that May 24th is World Schizophrenia Day which reminds us of all the pains suffered and emotional turmoil being felt by such patients or their care givers because of this complicated disease with the fact that only 20 to 30 percent of all schizophrenia patients are able to lead somewhat normal life. Let’s all become sensitive to this disease and help people to come out of it. NBJK appeals for public awareness and to reorganize our school syllabus where mental disorders are left uncovered and untouched widely.
