18 March 2021, Hazaribag: Mr. Girija Satish (President-NBJK & National Lok Samiti) has launched a book upon JP Movement in Hazaribag during 1974 on 47th anniversary of the movement. The book titled as “J. P. Andolan 1974 Hazaribag” has been edited by Messrs Gautam Sagar Rana (Ex-MLA), Prabhat Ranjan, Sanjay Sharan, Harish Shrivastav & Santosh Satyarthi jointly and it’s launching ceremony held under the auspices of Loknayak Pustak Lokarpan Samiti-Hazaribag.
Many living agitators of that time as well as family members of such departed souls have participated in the event and get honored with certificates, memento & shawl on this occasion. The program took place at Jain Dharmashala (Bara Bazar) and chaired by Mr. Gautam Sagar Rana. The book provides an authentic detail of the activities by students in the movement at Hazaribag, reflects a saga of youths’ contribution to systemic change and will be helpful to researchers of new generation, Mr. Rana pointed out. Mr. Harish Shrivastav anchored the dais and said that Hazaribag has played an important role in the student movement of 1974 with collective leadership, continuous activities and tremendous combativeness. Mr. Swarup Chand Jain (Advocate) who was quite active for bail to the agitators then has stated that disagreement is like oxygen for democracy and national flag hoisting by a rikshawala Mr. Manki Mahto on Independence Day of that year was a better expression of public sentiments. Mr. Akhlaque Ahmad (Ex-MLA) joined the program as a special invitee and motivated the audience with his poems.
Mr. Dina Gope, Mr. Abhijit Sen, Mr. Satyendra Sinha, Mr. Ashok Yadav, Dr. Zafrullah Sadique, Prof. Surendra Sinha have shared their experiences of the movement and explained about the events of opposing government’s dictatorship by youths, their family members and specially the women in a small place like Hazaribag. Also the close relatives of prominent agitators like late Ashok Chaurasia, late Upendra Das (Ex-MLA), late Nehru Yadav, late Narendra Jain have remembered about that protest.
While launching the book, Mr. Girija Satish has appreciated the contributors & editors for preserving memoirs of ’74 movement in shape of a book. He talked about JP’s concept of Total Revolution, asked for the movement related event every year and appealed to pay attention upon construction of JP Memorial site. At last Mr. Santosh Satyarthi has thanked the participants, saluted deceased friends and all have observed two minutes silence in their memory.
