18 March 2024, Hazaribagh: Ex-agitators of JP Movement have gathered at Madhuvan Community Center to commemorate the spirit of the JP Movement that swept across India half a century ago. Honored to have Mr. Shivanand Tiwari, an ex-MP and key figure in the movement, as the chief guest, he reflected on Loknayak JayPrakash’s monumental contributions to India’s democracy. Mr. Tiwari emphasized the importance of dissent in a democratic society, urging to uphold India’s pluralistic fabric.

Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) highlighted JP’s vision of Total Revolution, advocating for a society free from divisions of race, caste, and religion. He was concerned about liquor, drugs addiction among young generation and suggested to launch a social movement against such evils with support of women.

Addressing contemporary issues, Mr. Gautam Sagar Rana (Ex-MLA) expressed concern over the influence of money in politics, while Mr. Lalchand Mahto (Ex-Minister) stressed the need to revive recognition for JP Movement agitators. Many other speakers acknowledged that while the movement may not have achieved all its goals, its principles remain relevant today.

The conference was honored to release “Emergency, MISA and I” by Mr. Swarup Chand Jain, a testament to the sacrifices made during the Emergency period. Coordinated by Mr. Harish Shrivastava, a former agitator, the event brought together 150 delegates from various districts.

Let’s honor the legacy of the JP Movement by striving for a more just and inclusive society. #JPMovement50 #SocialChange #BanLiquor #StopDrugs #InclusiveSociety
