17 June 2017, Ranchi: Mrs. Asha Lakra (Mayor, Ranchi) has distributed certificates among the trainees of Rojgar Training Center (RTC), Piska More (Ranchi) after completion of their 3 months skill development training in the trades of Computer Software/Hardware, Mobile Repair, Tally, Beautician and Tailoring. She was the chief guest of this function held at RTC and accompanied by Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK), Mr. Anand Prakash (Program Manager), Mr. Randheer Kumar (Center In-charge) and faculties. Mrs. Lakra has motivated the youths towards a sustainable future, they may carve with the skill learnt here and appreciated their effort for self-reliance.
The passing out batch has performed with cultural programs also and made the event much attractive. On this occasion, Mr. Satish Girija has welcomed the chief guest with all others and thanked her for encouraging the youths. Mr. Randheer Kumar (Center In-charge) has informed that RTC-Piska More (Ranchi) has produced more than a thousand skilled youths with high placement ratio and supported them to lead lives with dignity. There were about 150 trainees gathered on the day and they have contributed to organize the day memorable.
NBJK runs 11 RTCs at 10 districts of Jharkhand under the Program of Sustainable Livelihood with support of Axis Bank Foundation, Mumbai.
15 – 17 June 2017, Hazaribag: 3 days training for carers under Carers Promotion program with support of Carers Worldwide, UK was held to outline and strengthen a district level federation of Carers SHGs encouraged by NBJK in Hazaribag district. There were 30 carers/representatives and volunteers from Hazaribag Sadar, Katkamdaag, Katkamsaandi, Ichak, Daroo and Chouparan blocks in the training.
Mr. Ramakrishna and Mr. Natesh (Resource Persons) have discussed about basics of the federation and raised relevant issues for further advocacy. They talked about complete health awareness with medical facilities provided by the government and requested the carers to draw benefits of governmental welfare schemes for their dependents or themselves. Disability certificates, pension, aids & appliances, treatment, school enrollment and smooth delivery of many other services can be supported by the Carers Federation and such carers must join our social mainstream with the causes they are committed for, they opined. Mr. Ramakrishna has said that a Carers Federation aims to get support from society and government for caring people with disability, mental illness, old age problem etc. as these carers sacrifice silently. They deserve a serious attention from rest of the world for any combined effort and a Carers Federation can be helpful to do that, he added.
The resource persons have briefed about initial process and formalities to set up a federation. They appealed the participants to workout over an organization to be made on behalf of the community called Carers. Its significant that NBJK works with around 1300 carers of their 81 SHGs in Hazaribag district.
12 June – 18 June 2017, Chouparan: Childline India Foundation, Mumbai supported Childline1098 Sub-centre by NBJK at Chouparan has launched a week long campaign against Child Labour. Chouparan based government officers like Mr. Amit Kumar Shrivastava (Block Development Officer), Mrs. Savita Kumari (Child Development Project Officer) and Mr. Lalkeshwar Singh (Child Welfare Police Officer) have supported the campaign and discussed about their active roles during any operation if required.
The campaign team has organized a quiz competition among children of Government Middle School, Singhrawan and promoted them against Child Labour. There was a meeting with Aanganwadi Sewikas at CDPO Office, Chouparan and they were sensitized towards intervention in the case of Child Labour. The Childline team has visited roadside dhaba- hotel operators and appealed them to shun recruiting children as daily wage labourer.
Also they distributed thematic handbills at all important nook & corner around Chouparan and disseminated the message amid mass. Mr. Birendra Kumar Sinha (Team Leader) has led the campaign comprised with Mrs. Punam Kumari, Mrs. Maya Mishra, Mr. Narayan Rajak and Mr. Navratn Pandey (all team members).
4 June – 11 June 2017, Jharkhand: Just a day before Total Revolution Day (5 June), the legacy from Loknayak JP, Jharkhand State Lok Samiti, Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra and partner organizations have launched a state level Sharab Mukti Yatra (Journey for Liberation from Liquor) or SMY from Hazaribagh under leadership of Mr. Girija Satish (President, National Lok Samiti). Messrs Kaushal Ganesh Azad (National Coordinator, Lok Samiti), Shivjee Singh (General Secretary, Bihar State Lok Samiti), Shyam Kunwar Bharti (Bokaro District LS), Shankar Rana (Coordinator, Jharkhand State LS), Filman Bakhla (Chatra District LS), Sujit Mishra, Paras Mahto, Vinay Kr. Bhatta, Rajiv Kr. Singh (NBJK, Hazaribag), Saudagar (Coordinator, BSLS), Mrs. Kranti Rasosh (Women’s Coordinator, BSLS), Manti Verma (Coordinator, Patna district LS), Punam Bharti (Secretary, BSLS), Dr. Umesh (Muzaffarpur District LS), Mr. Meghnath & group (Folk Artists) were other members of this travelling team.
This began with an anti-liquor convention at Hazaribag, passed through Koderma, Giridih, Devghar, Dumka, Jamtada, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Jamshedpur, Saraikela-Kharswan, Chibasa, Khunti, Lohardaga, Gumla districts and concluded at Ranchi. There were convention, meeting, street play, press conference, handbill distribution at each destination. SMY was responded warmly by the people and youth/women groups, PRI members have welcomed the caravan with much dedication. District Units of Lok Samiti and local VOs were supporting organs for this campaign.
Mr. Girija Satish has initiated the campaign with a tribute to Loknayak JP and explained about the very idea of Total Revolution that includes ethical change in society. He said that growing habit of liquor intake and its social acceptance have blocked such evolution. Since liquor serves disease, anti-women crime, road accident only, it’s ban should be viewed as a developmental issue, he mentioned during the meetings. SMY demands for a strict law to ban liquor (except Handiya) completely in Jharkhand, Girija Satish has expressed firmly. Those who support liquor for revenue, should look at Bihar where the state government has initiated towards prohibition, he added. LS president has suggested political parties to consider liquor ban as an agenda for their manifesto.
At Ranchi convention, Mr. Girija Satish thanked all the people for their unconditional support and referred to Indian constitution that directs the state to ban liquor and reminds citizens to oppose any anti-women custom prevailing in the society. Padmshri Ashok Bhagat (Head, Vikas Bharti) has presided over the function. He said that Liquor Ban will strengthen moral fabrics within our society and needs unity of social forces as well as mass awareness also. Mrs. Shachi (CSS, Ranchi), Mr. Sanjeev Vijaywargiya (Dy. Mayor, Ranchi MC), Mr. S. K. Singh (Regional Director, ASSOCHAM), Mr. Sachchidananda (General Secretary, Jharkhand LS), Mr. Wazeer Ahmad (Vice-President, Jharkhand LS) were other speakers on this occasion.
31 May 2017, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): The 4th batch trainees of Skill for Life program supported by HSBC & Swades Foundation-Mumbai have received their Course Completion Certificates during a simple ceremony organized at NBJK premises. On this occassion, Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) has asked them about advantages of 2 months residential courses on Basic Computer Applications (BCA), Bed Side Patient Attendants (BSPA) and Mobile/Cell Phone Repair they gone through during April-May. He appreciated the efforts of youths to get job or self-employment and said that there may be some problems at the begining of career but enthusiasm ensures success finally. Every job or work has own dignity and discipline with cleanliness & team work make it qualitative, he said.
Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Program In-Charge & Treasurer-NBJK) has facilitated the function and told the trainees to share their training experience. Many trainees like Punita Kujoor, Kajal Kumari, Shruti Kumari, Subodh Raj, Mohit Nikhil, Sujit Kumar, Bela Tirky, Meena Devi have valued the training for learning of something new and helpful. Some of them have drawn attention towards difficulties at their work place through On Job Training (OJT) and training contents. They were assured for way out.

Mr. Kirti Rawat (Placement Officer) has informed that 9 out of 16 trainees of BCA have been placed with Vodafone, Aegis and Sreeleathers at Jamshedpur. 22 among 26 BSPA trainees got placement at different private nursing homes/hospitals like Mercy, Jeewan Anmol, Arya, Jeewan Kalyan, Maheshwaree at Hazaribag and Ramgarh while in the trade of Cell Phone Repair, 6 youths have decided to start their own service center and 4 are placed with private enterprises.
May 2017, Hazaribag-Giridih-Koderma-Gaya-Nawada: In the month of May’17, a number of activities took place under Disability Rights program by NBJK with support of Action Village India and Big Lottery Fund, UK.
There were 21 panchayat level media advocacy meetings in 5 districts with more than 1600 people including PRI member, Mukhiya, Sarpanch, Rojgar Sewak, Anganwadi Sewika, Jal Sahiya, Ward Member and other community leaders. They discussed problems related to certification, pension, appliances, BPL enlisting and inclusion with Govt. schemes on housing/job/food security etc. Also 3 block level advocacy meetings held at Dobhi (Gaya), Chnadwara (Koderma) and Hisua (Nawada) with 222 participants along with BDO, CO, BMO, PRI representatives and others. They focused upon Adhar Card-Bank linkage for service delivery. Also 19 block level meetings of DPOs (Disable People Organizations) took place in all the program districts and they discussed regarding registration, DSHGs linkage, certification, vocational training, office place, Govt. Schemes, Tricycle repair campaign etc. There were 361 DPO members present in these meetings.
In Bodhgaya block, 2 PwDs were provided tool kits for carpentry and bicycle repair works respectively while 2 female PwDs were linked to Rozgar Training Center at Giridih for short term vocational courses. 21 PwDs have been supported in 4 districts (except Koderma) with their Tricycle repair. 28 Disable Self-Help Groups (DSHGs) have been supported with Saving Box & necessary documents/pass book etc. while 30 PwDs got Micro-credit support worth Rs. 1 lac 70 thousand. At Giridih, a representation of PwDs have demanded for Audiologist, doctors’ panel and delay control measures before the Civil Surgeon. Also a training on New PwD Act 2016 was organized for 60 DPO leaders/volunteers from program districts. This provided a fresh look over the law framed recently over rights of PwDs in India.
17 May 2017, Bahera (Chouparan): NBJK run Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Eye Hospital started a Diploma Course in Ophthalmic Assistance (DCOA) and admission is open from today. Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) has inaugurated a simple function on this occasion and expressed satisfaction that LNJPEH will shape up efficient eye care professionals also in coming days. He appealed the newly enrolled students to work hard in a disciplined way and said that such skilled youths will serve the community well. There were 5 students who got admission for DCOA to be started from June this year.
The course is with limited seats, costs Rs. 20,000 and covers 2 years duration with hostel facility. The trainees will have to pay for their food. The minimum eligibility for admission is +2 or Intermediate passed with Science stream and it’s open for girls and boys both.
On this occasion, Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Program Director, NBJK) has welcomed all and valued DCOA as one of the most useful course needed for eye care services. This covers systematic knowledge about all eye diseases and treatment systems within the period of two years, Mr. Gaurav informed.
The function was accompanied by Messrs Virendra Sinha (Branch Manager), Tripan Das (Hospital Manager), Vikrant Singh, Dinesh Saw, Abhishek Kr. Sinha, Pankaj Kumar, Suvendu Kr. Pandey, Vijay, Ashish Polak, Mintu Rajak, Karunanidhi and Mrs. Anita Devi from NBJK Ashrama and Loknayak Jay Prakash Eye Hospital.
13 May 2017, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): A meeting with the parents of 4th batch trainees enrolled under the program of Residential Rozgar Training Center was held to ensure a trouble free course completion for the youngsters belong to remote rural areas. Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Treasurer-NBJK & Program In-charge) has welcomed the parents and briefed them about 2 months’ duration courses of Basic Computer Application (BCA), Mobile Repair and Bed Side Patient Attendant (BSPA).
He has discussed about common problems with youths and made the guardians acquainted with rules & regulations their wards are supposed to follow during the period. Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma has requested the parents to motivate their daughters or sons to learn the skill of their choice firstly and to wait for desirable income as that needs experience with perfection. However he assured the parents for work place support to each pass out in case of any problem with the employer. Mr. Sharma has shared his view about the growing need of skilled youths to support the concept of cashless society. He said that such youths can be change agents, service providers and earning hands for society.
The meeting was attended by Mrs. Gita Devi, Mr. Lildhari Das, Mr. Shatrughan Kumar, Mr. Tapeshwar Bhuiyan and other parents from Chouparan, Keredari, Simariya, Bishnugarh, Daroo, Churchu blocks of Hazaribag and Chatra districts. Also faculty members like Mrs. Sandhya Kumari, Mr. Amar Ram, Mr. Anand Kumar have talked to parents and replied their queries.
10 May 2017, Amrit Nagar: Disabled People’s Orgaizations (DPOs) from Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih, Nawada and Gaya districts got an orientation training on The Rights of Persons with disabilities 2016. This was organized under Disability Rights Program with support of AVI-BLF, UK.
On 10-11 May, 30 participants from Hazaribag, Koderma and Giridih based DPOs have attended the training moderated by Mrs. Sujata Prasad (Program Manager). She has briefed about 21 types of disabilities and informed about 3% to 4% reservation in government jobs for person with disabilities as well as regarding right to education for all children with disabilities under 6-18 years age group. Mrs. Sujata has updated the trainees with some provisions of the Act like formation of district level committees and Special Courts by the government to address local concerns and violation of rights of PwDs. She referred to broad based Central & State Advisory Boards on Disability as policy making bodies, offices of Chief/State Commissioners and penalty of 6 months to 5 years with fine if anyone insults a PwD. The Act says that any person who “intentionally insults or intimidates with intent to humiliate a person with a disability in any place within public view” is punishable with imprisonment of such period, she reiterated and appealed the DPOs to exercise their rights enshrined under the law.
20 members from DPOs of Gaya and Nawada districts are scheduled for the same training on 12-13 May. The trainees have been given concerned resource materials and availed the opporunity to watch motivational video clips also.
19-24 April 2017, Churchu/Sadar Blocks, Hazaribag: In course of highlighting the rights of People with Disabilities as an important issue, three panchayat level advocacy meetings were held at Indraa, Aango, Irgaa panchayats under Disability Rights program by NBJK with support of AVI-BLF, UK.
On 19th and 22nd, the meeting was organized at Indraa and Aango panchayats of Churchu block while Irgaa panchayat of Sadar block has observed the same event on 24th April. There were 71, 86 and 93 participants respectively from around 30 villages of these panchayats. The program team has invited Mukhiya, Deputy-Mukhiya, Panchayat Sachiv, Ward Members, Aanganwadi Sewikas and identified PwDs to attend the meetings. In the meeting at Aango panchayat, the BDO of Churchu block has come for some time and assured for full cooperation to the PwDs.
During all these meetings, the PwDs have asked about delay in process for Disability certificates & pension, their unheard voices in Gram Sabha meetings, denial of government schemes and drinking water problem for physically handicapped people in villages. They have expressed their sufferings and expected support from people’s representatives as well as government officers responsible for services to be delivered among needy people. The Mukhiya of Irgaa panchayat has noted down all the problems of PwDs from his area and promised to help them.
The Disability Rights program team members have shared information upon Disability Rights Act 2016 during the meetings and justified the rights of PwDs.
