20-21 April 2017, Hazaribag: Mr. Ajay Kumar Singh, an IRS officer and the main character of the film “Ajab Singh Ki Gazab Kahani” has paid a promotional visit at NBJK office on 20th. He has addressed a meeting with the team NBJK and appealed all to see the movie that depicted his life story against all the physical and socio-economic odds.

Mr. Singh was born in an extremely poor farmer’s family and he lost his eyes & ears, became partially deafblind due to an accident during his childhood. His parents couldn’t afford proper medical treatment in time. But Mr. Singh’s genius and his deep commitment to the dream of parents has opened new pages of life that he wanted to share through this biopic directed by Mr. Rishi Prakash Mishra.

This is first time in Indian film history that the same person has replayed own role based on his real life events. The Hindi movie Ajab Singh Ki Gazab Kahani was released on 21st April nationwide and featured Ajay K. Singh himself as Ajab Singh along with Yasika Basra, Ishita Ganguli, Archna Prasad, Yashpal Sharma, Vikas Giri, Rajesh Jais, Amit Kaushik, Govind Namdev, Mukesh Mishra as different characters. Music is contributed by Tanmay Pahwa and Ved Sharma with singers like Prithvi Raj Singhdev, Krishna Beura, Tarannum Mallik, Shabab Sabri, Rohit Akhouri and Anindya Chakrabarty. The film is produced by Binod Kumar, edited by Anil Ray and cinematographed by Saravanan with Elavarasu.

NBJK staffs and their family members have watched the movie at Laxmi Cinema Hall, Hazaribag. They appreciated An Unconventional Journey of a Handicapped IRS officer and responded with different views to make the film more motivating. NBJK office management has granted half day leave and subsidized tickets to its staffs for this special show.

13 April 2017, Hazaribag: Two days training on Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 was held for staffs of Disability Rights program executed in 5 districts of Jharkhand-Bihar with support of AVI-BLF, UK. The training was initiated by Mrs. Sujata Prasad (Program Manager) who outlined the law and informed about new provisions incorporated there for sake of PwDs. She said that now 21 types of disabilities come under domain of the law and there are more rights for people with disabilities. This needs to be disseminated among program beneficiaries as a priority as they are entitled to get such rights, she instructed to the trainees. Also she has briefed about different benfits like National Social Security Pension, Integrated Life Insurance Coverage and Pradhan Mantri Housing Scheme besides state pension, aids & appliances, concessional travel by Railway provided having a disability certificate issued to any PwD. She praised Central and State governments for such provisions.

Dr. Mukesh Kumar Suman (Physiotherapist) has thrown light over early identification of visual, hearing and other disabilities among infants or children to get proper treatment as soon as possible. There were 60 participants like district-block coordinators and field staffs from Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih, Gaya and Nawada districts who gone through this training on the law passed by the Indian Parliament in December 2016.

January-March 2017, Churchu (Hazaribag): There were a lot of activities held under Child Centered Community Development program in villages of Churchu block, Hazaribag. Baby Show was organized at 11 villages of Churchu, Chenaro and Ango panchayats from 13 to 23 January. The activity aimed to reduce stunting in children below 5 years of age. Likewise Mothers’ Show took place on 16 & 17 January in 10 villages of the same panchayats to inculcate healthy child rearing practices among 338 mother participants. In this quarter, 1418 patients from 23 villages got free medical checkup and treatment with special focus on Haemoglobin & Body Mass Index test for adolescents. On 18 January, Infant Young Child Feeding orientation was provided to 44 AanganWadi Workers, Sahiyas and active mothers on importance/proper method of breast feeding.

On 8 February, block level management committee meeting was called to discuss issues and good practices in intervention area. Total 59 participants including BDO, CDPO, Medical Officer, Lady Supervisor, AanganWadi Workers, ANMs have participated in the meeting to ensure timely registration of pregnant women, proper coordination, monthly cluster meeting, use of ANC table and pregnant women calendar. On 10 & 13 February, 85 adolescent girls were provided orientation towards sexual and reproductive health. Block medical officer was the resource person who discussed about child marriage, early pregnancy, Anemia, Menstrual hygiene etc. On 21 February, one day capacity building training on Home based natal care was held for 30 Sahiyas, Sahiya Sathis and Aanganwadi workers to sensitize them upon reduction of preventable new born deaths.

Also an orientation on Swachh Bharat Mission and achieving ODF has led 78 PRI members to know about proper disposal of human excreta and total sanitation of their village or panchayat. 83 Village water sanitation committee members, Jal Sahiyas, Aanganwadi workers and Sahiyas have got the chance to orient themselves on the same separately. During February and March, there were community meetings in 7 villages for periodic monitoring and community sensitization upon ODF. Total 554 community members have contributed in these meetings.

31 March 2017, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): 49 trainees of 3rd batch from Residential Rojgar Training Center were distributed certificates at a formal ceremony held at NBJK coordination office meeting hall. The RRTC is being supported by Swades Foundation, Mumbai & HSBC Ltd.

Today these youths have completed their two months training in the trades like Bed Side Patient attendant (BSPA), Mobile Repapir and Basic Computer Application. Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) has presented them course completion certificates with best wishes and addressed the trainees on this occasion. He said that competent people are always in demand and we should enhance our ability. There is an impression that desciplined, truthful, simple and honest people are fools but these are basic qualities we neet to be successful, he added.  NBJK president has motivated the youths to get more knowledge related to their skills besides livelihood opportunity offered to them. Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Treasurer, NBJK) has talked about descipline which reflects through our manners and behavoiurs. He counselled the trainees to adopt good habits and to shun the bad ones as they are responsible citizens of India.

The certification ceremony was anchored by Mr. Lalan Saw (Mobilizer) who appreciated positive attitude to defeat various problems. Mr. Kirti Rawat (Placement Officer) has informed that out of total 49 trainees, 17 from BSPA, 10 from BCA and 8 from Mobile Repair courses have been offered for placement and few trainees of Mobile repair may start their own business, he said. All the trainees have thanked NBJK management for their fruitful  learning and training during last two months.

30 March 2017, Ranchi: Jan Sahyog Kendra, Village-Gudwa, Post-Sitagarha, Hazaribag became a recipient of Agrotech 2017 Jharkhand Award by Birsa Agriculture University during 20-22 March. JSK is a partner organization promoted by Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra under the program of Support to Social Activists for Facilitating Food Security & Mental Health Service with help of BFW, Germany.

The VO is headed by Mr. Narendra Kumar Mahto and NBJK has encouraged him to work on agriculture promotion in 15 villages of Tatijhariya, Vishnugarh, Gomiya blocks of Hazaribag and Bokaro districts. Jan Sahyog Kendra works with tribal people in remote villages and its work has been recognized by not only us but the government also, Mr. Rajiv Kumar Singh (Program Manager, NBJK) has informed. He congratulated JSK for the achievement. Agrotech 2017 Jharkhand Award was conferred to Mr. Narendra Mahto by Mr. Dinesh Oraon (Speaker, Jharkhand Legislative Assembly) who presented a memento and certificate to him. Mr. Parvinder Kaushal (Vice-Chancellor, Birsa Agriculture University) has decorated him prestigiously with a shawl.

It’s remarkable that Jan Sahyog Kendra enabled tribal people to grow horsegram, ragi, sarguja in barren land and paddy varieties like Sahbhagi IR 64 for dry areas. Also they cultivate wheat, green gram and earn from piggery, poultry etc. The organization has assisted these peasants for water harvesting also.

28 March 2017, Hazaribag: 13 deafblind children and their parents/carers of Hazaribag have enjoyed a picnic held at local Swarnjayanti Cafeteria Park. This event was organized under the program of Services to Deafblind Children with support of Sense India, Ahmedabad. All DB children and carers have contributed to different games and entertainment activities. They talked, communicated and participated to make atmosphere more positive.

Md. Nayeem (Asst. Program Coordinator) has reminded the parents about physiotherapy, ADL, functional reading-writing, mobility, Braille practice and vocational training for their wards. He said that deafblind children need all these activities regularly and their parents are supposed to ensure such schedule. This works and resulted as livelihood linkage for 7 young children suffering from deafblindness and multi-sensory impairments, he informed. Mr. Parasnath Mahto (Special Teacher) has motivated the children and parents towards vocational training, school enrollment, socialization and important life skills for adolescents. The services being availed by such children are their rights and these can be game changer for them with support of family and society.

The picnic was ended with the group feast, delicious dishes and an appeal to link more deafblind children with the program. All deafblind children and their parents/carers have been dropped at their respective places. Mrs. Indu Gupta, Ms Reshmi Parveen (CBR workers) and Mrs. Tanuja Khatoon (Caretaker) has supported the occasion.

23 March, 2017, Ramgadh:  Deafblind and MSI (Multi-Sensory Impaired) children and their Caretakers from Ramgadh district have enjoyed an outing at Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Park in Hazaribag. These are benficiaries of Sense India supported programme of Services to Desfblind and MSI Children by NBJK.

Mr. Abhay Kumar (District Programme Coordinator) has said that such children face loneliness and lack proper socialization. Their family members feel inhibition to visit social functions with them due to adaptation problem of such children but this hitch can be managed with providing them opportuity only and we use to organize outings for these children, he added.

All 13 deafblind & MSI children were happy and they have enjoyed with the surroundings inside the park. Their parents and caretakers met each other, came to know about other’s problem and spent  quality time with their children.  The guardians present on this occasion were Mrs. Sunita Devi, Mrs. Usha Devi, Mrs. Seema Devi, Mrs. Gudiya Devi, Mr. Yugeshwar Ram, Mrs. Kalawati Devi, Mrs. Ganga Nayak, Mrs. Rizwana Nahid, Mr. Bablu Bediya, Mr. Ghulam Waris, Mrs. Soni Devi, Mrs. Fulo Devi, Mrs. Nagina Devi, Mrs. Swapna Devi, Mrs. Mano Devi, Mrs. Asha Devi, Mr. Pradeep Rajwar, mr. Shahabuddin, Mrs. Maanjo Devi and Mrs. Tultul Banerjee.

These people belong to Ramgadh and nearby places like  Ghutua, Chhotki Lari, Belwagarha, Bharech Nagar, Patratu Basti, Siyur, Koiri Tola, Sewaiyagarha, Lohartola, Bijuliya etc. The event was organized by programme team members like Mr. Mukesh Kumar (Special Educator), Mr. Kapildev Kumar and Ms. Sujata Singh (CBR Workers) under supervision of Mr. Abhay Kumar (District Programme Coordinator).

12-18 March 2017, Bahera: NBJK run Loknayak Jayprakash eye Hospital at village-Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag) has observed Glaucoma Week from 12 to 18 March and provided free eye check up, medical consultation, medicines and cost effective treatment for common people.

This was a SightSavers initiative by the eye hospital for rural people and we have started Glaucoma treatment unit here since last year with support of Aditya Birla Financial Services, Mumbai, Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Director, LNJPEH) has informed in a press communique by the eye hospital. He said that Glaucoma patients suffer from over fluid inside their eyes and growing backside pressure on related nerves damages side vision at first and ceases front vision later. The people with myopia, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problem become easy victim of Glaucoma, he added.

The Galucoma Week has enabled more than 700 patients to take care of their eyes as they availed free service of eye check up. On 18th March, 245 patients have gone through eye screening and their intra-ocular pressure was gauged by NCT device. Those found with high pressure were detected again by Perimetry machine. They got free medical consultation and medicines were distributed among them. The Week was organized under guidance of Dr. Alok Kumar (Ophthalmologist, LNJPEH) with support of the team included Mr. Tripan Das (Manager, LNJPEH), Mr. Karunanidhi (Asst. Manager, LNJPEH), Mrs. Anita Devi, Ms. Pinki Nidhi and Mrs. Annapurna Devi.

8-10 March 2017, Ranchi: The Disable Cricket Team from Hazaribag district has won State Level Cricket Tournament organized by Jharkhand Divyang Sports & Welfare Academy. Hazaribag team has started with a victory over Bokaro by 27 runs. On 9th, it won over Chatra with 10 wickets and secured it’s birth for Semi-final scheduled on 10th when it defeated Ranchi and made entry for the final of this tournament.

In final match, Hazaribag team has performed well against Giridih and won the tournament. Mr. Mayank, a team member was declared as Man of the Match and Series Allrounder. The team was declared as the Champion Team by JDSWA, the organizer of this Disable Cricket Tournament played among 12 Disable teams from Hazaribag, Chatra, Giridih, Dhanbad, Godda, Jamtara, Ramgarh, Patratu, Simdega, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and Ranchi.

Hazaribag team was comprised by Messrs Rajkumar (Captain), Ashish Kumar Das (Vice-captain), Deepak Sharma (Coach), Upendra Turi & Pintu Das (Team Managers), Jitendra Ravidas, Teeku Mehta, Arjun Mahto, Rajesh Ranjan, Shashi Kumar Das and Jagdish Kumar Mahto. These were felicitated by NBJK also. On 11th March, Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) met all team members, congratulated them and presented a Cup with best wishes on behalf of the organization.

Its noteworthy that NBJK run programme on Disability Rights with support of AVI-BLF (UK) has played a crucial role in formation and promotion of Hazaribag district team of disable cricketers. NBJK has provided them jersies while Mr. Pradip Prasad (Social Worker) sponsored Cricket Kit for the team. Most of the team members are associated with different block level DPOs (Disable People Organizations) and they have shown their cricket skill on World Disability Day also. All the team members have thanked NBJK for cooperation and encouragement.

 

08 March 2017, Jharkhand-Bihar:  Lok Samiti, a non-political and non-religious People’s Organization founded by Sarvoday leader JP has declared a clarion call against liquor, dowry and superstition on the occasion of Women’s Day. NBJK and network organizations have supported the issues raised by LS and organized Women’s Conventions in various districts.

In Hazaribag, Mr. Girija Satish (President, National Lok Samiti) has participated in Women’s convention and appealed Jharkhand government to introduce liquor prohibition policy as liquor is an enemy of women’s empowerment. He announced that Lok Samiti is observing Women’s Day as Liquor Prohibition Day in 10 districts of Jharkhand. Mrs. Sarojini Devi (Pramukh, Sadar Block) has justified women’s demand to ban liquor for sake of families and society. She opposed government’s involvement in liquor vending. Mrs. Sheela Kumari (Secretary, Stri Shakti) has stressed over education and legal awareness among women to have a strong say over issues vital for their survival. Mrs. Sharmila Hansda (ASI, Women’s PS) has accepted a deep correlation between liquor and crime against women. Prof. (Mrs.) Kiran Rana has presided over the convention and branded liquor as the root cause of numerous problems for women. She appreciated the idea to observe Wome’s Day as Anti-Liquor Day across the state and clarified that men-women are not competitors rather they are supposed to support each other in a constructive way. The convention has passed some resolutions and prepared a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Hazaribag that demanded Liquor Prohibition, Security for women trying to oust liquor from their families/villages, referendum over liquor, governmental procurement for Mahua ( a key sorce of local liquor), compliance of Articles 47 & 51A of Indian Constitution and to take support of women in anti-liquor move.

Besides Hazaribag, such anti-liquor conventions were organized in Koderma, Giridih, Bokaro, Saraikela-Kharsawan, Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Chatra and Lohardaga districts also and women have demanded for Liquor Prohibition. In Nawada and Bodhgaya of Bihar, women conventions have raised the issues of dowry and superstitions.

There were around 2000 people participated in these conventions. Mrs. Sujata Prasad, Mr. Ajit Rana, Mr. Abhay Kumar, Mrs. Sushma Devi, Mr. Shankar Rawani, Mrs. Punam Barnwal, Mr. P. N. Sharma, Mr. Pravin Chandra Pahadi, Mr. Gautam Sagar, Mr. Angura Mahto, Mr. K. G. Azad, Mrs. Kunti Bahen, Mr. Wazir Ahmad, Mr. Chandrapati Yadav and many more from Lok Samiti, NBJK, Lok Chetna Vikas Kendra, Dishayen, Sahyogini, Lok Hit Sanstha, Lohardaga Gram Swarajya Sansthan and other VOs have played a crucial role behind Women’s Day celebration in a different way.
