03 November 2017, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): Central Social Welfare Board & Jharkhand State Social Welfare Board supported Family Counselling Centre or FCC has organized a seminar upon “My Goal – Corruption Free India” among the students of Amrit Nagar High School at Amrit Nagar village. The seminar was presided by Mr. Dharmanand Ray (Senior Teacher, ANHS) who said that its more important to save the character instead of making this these days. We have our own honesty and dutyfulness only that we can contribute to the goal of making India corruption free, he opined during the programme.
Before this, Mrs. Meera Gupta (Counsellor, FCC) has briefed about NBJK with FCC and introduced the theme of this seminar. She has thrown light over different dimensions of corruption and warned about deteriorating dignity of family relationship even. We women can feel secured and safe in a corruption free society only, she pointed out. Mr. Shankar Rana (Lok Samiti) has suggested for quality education, character making endeavors and citizen friendly laws to uproot corruption from our national life. Many class 10th students have participated in the seminar and expressed their views. Muskan Kumari has conveyed her grief over increasing violence in society and Neeta was of the view that more educated people are more corrupt. Nisha Kumari has termed gender disparity as a corrupt practice and people become corrupt due to lack of humanity, another student Laxmi added her conclusion.
Mr. Sanjay Kumar (Counsellor, FCC) was concerned about low birth ratio of girl children and insisted to check female foeticide. On behalf of FCC, he thanked all the students and teachers to make the seminar meaningful.
24 October, Hazaribag: NBJK has organized monthly mental health camp with help of Ranchi Institute of Neuro Psychiatry & Allied Sciences (RINPAS), Ranchi under the program of Support to Marginalized Mentally Ill People in partnership with Bread for the World, Germany.
The camp was held in the premises of NBJK Coordination Office, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag) and 928 patients of epilepsy/mental illness have got medical consultation with medicines free of cost here. Out of these, 894 were old patients and 34 have been enrolled as new to get proper medical intervention for their diseases. All these have come from not only villages of different blocks under Hazaribag district but from other districts like Ramgarh, Koderma, Dhanbad, Giridih, Chatra also. The patients were suffering from epilepsy, insomnia, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar and other behavioural disorders.
RINPAS team was comprised of the psychiatrists like Dr. Vinod Kumar, Dr. Sujeet Prasad and Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma along with the paramedical staffs including Mr. Puroshottam Kumar, Mrs. Jayanti Ayunanda, Mrs. Renu Tirky and Mr. Puran Munda.
NBJK staffs like Ms. Shahjehan, Mrs. Neelam Sharma, Mrs. Mary Hansda, Mrs. Pratima Devi, Mr. Annu, Mr. Om Prakash, Mr. Sudeep, Mr. Shailesh, Mr. Narsingh, Mr. Poornprakash Rana and Mr. Sujeet Mishra have laboured hard to manage such a large number of patients. These staffs have ensured medical consultation and medicines for all of them.
14 October 2017, Ramgarh: District level training program to Aanganwadi Sevikas was organized by NBJK under the program of Services to Deafblind Children with support of Sense India, Ahmedabad. The training held at Rotary Club, Ramgarh and Mr. Rashmi Kant Mishra (Training Officer, Sense India) has oriented the Sevikas about the phenomenon of Deafblindness, its causes, symptoms and preventive measures in detail.
Before this, Mrs. Sushmita Bhattacharya (Program Manager, NBJK) has welcomed all the participants and said that we want to reach all such deafblind children still deprived of any facility or support. She requested Aanganwadi Sevikas to identify such children and to work as a link person for them. There were some experimental demonstrations among the trainees to make them feel like any deafblind child and to develop a sense of empathy for the target group.
There were more than 60 Aanganwadi Sevikas including Mrs. Madhuri Devi, Veena Kumari, Shweta Devi, Anjani Devi, Indrani, Savitri, Sheela, Nazma Khatoon, Lalita Devi, Abha Devi, Renu Yadav, Draupdi, Tajo Devi, Usha Devi and others participated in the training. Also Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Kapildev Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, Sujata Singh and Sunita Devi from Ramgarh Program team have enriched the training.

13 October 2017, Hazaribag: Sub-committee members of Family Counselling Centre (FCC) were present in the meeting held at Women Police Station premises to discuss about quarterly performance of FCC run by NBJK with support of Jharkhand State Social Welfare Board and Central Social Welfare Board, Delhi.
The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Ameltina Ekka (In-charge, Women PS) and members have suggested that FCC should get help of Panchayti Raj members and local Mukhiya to settle cases. Ms. Veena Sethi (Advocate) has advised to involve members of women SHGs to support the victims of domestic violence. We must keep the parents in confidence if dealing with the cases of love marriage, she opined during the meeting.
Mrs. Meera Gupta (Senior Counsellor) has tabled the work report of FCC from 01 August-12 October 2017 and reported about 34 cases registered during the period. Out of these, 12 were related to Alcoholism, 11 to marital dispute, 7 to bigamy, 2 to land dispute, 1 to adolescent love affair and 1 to monetary fraud, she explained with documentary proof. We could reconcile total 17 cases and Women Police Station has extended all its support to get them resolved, she told. Other members of FCC Sub-committee like Mr. Rajiv Ranjan (Circle Police Inspector), Mrs. Susheela, Shiv Kumari Sony, Sister Anny Thomas, Mrs. Usha Bahen, Mr. Tulsi Dubey, Mr. Arvind Jha, Mr. Chandan Kumar, Mrs. Saraswati Soren and Mr. Sanjay Kumar (Counsellor) have contributed the meeting.
12 October 2017, Chouparan/Dumka: LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital (Chouparan & Dumka units) has observed World Sight Day with enthusiasm and organized mass awareness as well as eye care activities for people. At LNJPEH, Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag), a workshop with rural health workers (Sahiyas) upon early eye care was inaugurated by Mr. Kumar Saurabh (Manager, Aditya Birla Financial Services-Hazaribag) in presence of Dr. Yogendra Singh (Medical Officer, PHC-Chouparan), Mr. Narendra Singh (Mukhiya, Bahera Panchayat), Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK), Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Program Director, NBJK), Mr. Tripan Das (Hospital Administrator), Mr. Karunanidhi (In-charge, Vision Centers-LNJPEH) and others. Mr. Saurabh has praised LNJPEH for focus upon community eye care and cost effective services. We have celebrated the day with vision restoration for 50 people through cataract operation including spectacles, medicines free of cost, Mr. Gandharv Gaurav updated. Mr. Tripan Das has briefed that LNJPEH has conducted 66 village camps, 17333 OPD, offered treatment for around 2500 people with Cataract, Glaucoma, Retina and dispensed more than 3500 power glasses during April-September 2017. There were 75 Sahiya participants in the workshop and Dr. Alok has oriented them towards preventive-curative measures for eye care.
At Dumka, the hospital has launched an awareness campaign from 9 to 12 October and 419 people (from Dumka, Devghar, Pakur, Jamtara and Godda districts) have availed treatment here. Also 56 cataract patients got operated by Dr. Mohan Lal and Dr. Dheeraj during the period. On 11th, LNJPEH Dumka remembered Loknayak JP on his birth anniversary and Mr. Anand Abhinav (Program Director) has called him as a source of motivation for nation building. He said that right from its initiation in the year 2008, Loknayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital, Dumka has provided proper treatment to 57,792 eye patients and restored vision to 12,883 cataract suffering people. The campaign team was comprised of Messrs Sudarshan Pandey, Anirvan Panda, Himanshu Kumar, Santosh Gautam, Ezaz Alam, Sitaram Yadav and others.
11 October 2017, Patna: A convention upon peace and harmony held on the occasion of JP Jayanti at IMA Hall, Patna under the joint auspices of Bihar Pradesh Lok Samiti and Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Girija Satish (National President, Lok Samiti) who said that we are basically a non-communal society and our governments must treat all the citizens equally. He blamed Babri Masjid demolition as a key factor behind post independence detachment between Hindu and Muslim communities and said that linking religious faith with vote is dangerous as it diverts attention from real issues. Mr. Girija has called communalism as anti-development and stressed over all-religious harmony through thematic conventions at village-block-district level, organising joint celebration of festivals with focus upon cultural components and better school syllabus.
As the chief guest of this convention, Prof. (Mrs.) M. N. Anzum (Head, English & Foreign Languages, Magadh University) has termed peace and harmony as corresponding to each other. She called for protection of fundamental rights enshrined by the constitution. Prof. Anzum has appealed to follow humanity, democratic values and ideological respect to remember JP in a true sense. In his key note address, Mr Kaushal Ganesh Azad (National Coordinator, Lok Samiti) has appreciated Indian culture as inclusive one and said that people from all religions have contributed to nation building and they must be honored. Mr. Bijay Kumar (President, Bihar Pradesh Lok Samiti) has presided over the convention and said that Gandhi-JP thoughts should be promoted for peace & harmony. Mr. Shivji Singh (General Secretary, Bihar Pradesh Lok Samiti) has assured for initiatives by Lok Samiti to promote fraternity.
Other prominent speakers were Messrs Prof. Mahendra Lal Karn (Academician), Vidyabhushan Singh (Ex-MLA), Vinod Sharma (Treasurer, National Lok Samiti), Chandrabhushan (Secretary, National Lok Samiti), Kranti Rashosh (Coordinator, Bihar Lok samiti), Jagannath Singh and many others. The convention has passed resolutions regarding non-discrimination and equality among citizens by people and Regional Political Parties and about programs for peace & harmony at village-block-district levels by Lok Samiti. Also the convention has appealed schools & colleges to initiate all religions prayer by Gandhi ji and reconstruction of academic curriculam to promote peace and harmony.
10-16 October, Mahuda (Dhanbad): 7 days tailoring training and new sewing machines have been provided to 10 rural women beneficiaries selected by Jharkhand Gramin Vikas Trust, village-Kacharra, Mahuda (Dhanbad), a partner organization under Usha Silai School Program by NBJK with support of Usha International Limited, Delhi.
The training was conducted by Mrs. Sangita Jaiswal (Master Trainer) and Mr. Ritesh Lohani (Program Manager) from Usha International Ltd. The trainees have learnt new skills and sewing machine maintainance during the training held at Panchayat Sachivalay, Kandra (Mahuda More). The women who got such support were Mrs. Ranju Devi (Bhurangiya), Lakshmi Devi (Patthargadhiya), Champa Devi (Kanchanpur), Bhuvaneshwari Devi (Lututaand), Sushma Devi (Paarjoriya), Priyanka Devi (Kandra), Chameli devi (Kalyanpur), Shamima Parveen (Kacharra), Sitara Khatun (Kumardih), Laljan Khatoon (Naagda). All these belong to week socio-economic background and determined to raise income by opening of Usha Silai Schools in their respective localities.
In the concluding ceremony, Mr. Shankar Rana (Representative, NBJK) has applauded Usha International for such initiative to women empowerment and extended his best wishes to all. The program was graced by Mr. Chakradhari Mahto (Mukhiya), Mr. Parmeshwar Rawani and other dignitaries also.
27 September 2017, Hazaribag: Hazaribag town became a stay point for Bharat Yatra, a nationwide march led by Nobel Peace Laureate Mr. Kailash Satyarthi against child sexual abuse and trafficking, though Mr. Satyarthi couldn’t be present here due to some unavoidable reasons. Bharat Yatra team reached here with Mr. Arjun Kumar (Coordinator, Bharat Yatra Team), Mrs. Arti Kujur (Chairperson, Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights), Mrs. Shanti Kindo (Ex-Chairperson, Jharkhand State Child Labour Commission) and other team members. The yatra was received by Mrs. Veena Kumari (District Child Welfare Officer), Mr. S. P. Singh (Chairman, District Child Welfare Committee) and Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) with staffs & children from NBJK run programs/schools. All these have participated in the rally chanting pro-children slogans and marched upto Hazaribag Town Hall where a thematic convention held under joint auspices of District Administration and NBJK.
On this occasion, Mr. Girija Satish has welcomed the move upon issues related child rights by Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation and said to consider not only children but their families, surroundings and society also. He suggested for measures like liquor pohibition and gender equality for a safe childhood as well as shared about child centered programs by NBJK. Mr. Arjun Kumar has thanked the Government of Jharkhand with NBJK for cooperation and informed that Bharat Yatra (11 September-16 October 2017) was started from Kanyakumari in Kerala to cover 22 states in India. During 1993 in Jharkhand, we have initiated Bachpan Bachao (Save Childhood) movement against Child Labour and standing with children much firmly now, he pointed out. Mrs. Shanti Kindo was in favour of a collective say with general awareness in interest of children and explained about different dimensions of child exploitation. Mrs. Arti Kujur has called for honour to women’s power and safety for girl children in the wake of Navaratri. Rational use of internet and dialogue between parent-child are the things we must take care now, she insisted.
Mr. Praveen Kumar (Labour Superintendent) has mentioned about Government initiatives to eradicate practice of child labour in the district and rehabilitation of such children. Mr. S. P. Singh and Mrs. Priti Sinha (Member, CWC) have discussed about child rights and activities of Child Welfare Committee while Md. Moazzam (Advocate, DLSA) has informed about legal provisions to prevent child labour. The convention was presided by Mrs. Veena Kumari and enriched with monologue of Mr. Vipul Singh (Bharat Yatra Team) and cultural programmes by the students of NBJK run Surekha Prakash Bhai Public School, Chouparan as well as Roshni Dhruv High School, Churchu. Mr. Shankar Rana (Asst. Prog. Coordinator, NBJK) has anchored the dais and Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) has delivered vote of thanks to all involved with the programme.
26 September / 6 October 2017, Khunti – Churchu: A group of Master course students from Tel Aviv University, Israel has reached at Khunti (Jharkhand) district to visit NBJK run program of Mission 2020: Lakhpati Kisan-Smart Village with support of CInI-Tata Trusts, Jamshedpur/Mumbai. These students will study the program in Pandu village of Murhu block. Their purpose is to survey the bottlenecks and to suggest for achieving the goal towards creation of Lakhpati Kisan-Smart Village. This study program will continue for 4 months with field study and inputs making to elevate the model.
On 6th October, Ms. Susan Seibert (a sponsor from Germany) has visited Angoo village of Churchu block of Hazaribag district to see her sponsored girl child Purnima and Purnima’s family members under the program of Child Centered Community Development with support of Plan India. Ms. Seibert has visited the village High School, interacted with teachers-students and presented some sports items to children. After that she met Purnima and her family members separately at home. All of them became emotional. Ms. Seibert has talked to her sponsored girl child and family members in detail. Also she presented some gift items to them and accepted a Saree from the mother of Purnima. She went to village Anganwadi Center and talked to Sevika, young mothers as well as community members. Ms. Susan Seibert herself works as a teacher in Germany and was willing to see her sponsored child since a long time. She seemed overwhelmed by traditional reception and suggested people for hygiene, marriage at proper age and family planning to lead a happy family life.
23 September 2017, Hazaribag: HSBC Bank – Swades Foundation, Mumbai supported vocational training program Skill for Life trainees had an opportunity to meet each other during the Alumni Meet held at NBJK Coordination Office. This was attended by the current batch trainees also to get an idea of their post training employability prospect.
On this occasion, Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) has welcomed all such youths and said about their training as a seed of curiosity to be developed as the tree of knowledge by trainees themselves. He stressed upon rational use of internet for capacity building and assured them for organizational support in case of any adverse situation at workplace. Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Treasurer-NBJK & Program In-charge) has advocated for quality improvement and intense marketing of the skills they learn here.
It’s significant that Skill for Life program was initiated in the month of October last year and 324 youths in 6 batches have been trained under the trades of Basic Computer Application, Mobile Servicing and General Duty Assistant. Out of these trainees, 247 are already placed or self-employed. Mr. Sharma has informed that most youths from the course of Mobile Phone Servicing have preferred self-employment.
During the Alumni Meet, many ex-trainees of the program have shared their work experience and motivated their juniors to do better. There were 62 youths from current and previous batches who participated in the Alumni Meeting. Also Mr. Kirti Rawat (Placement Officer), Mrs. Sandhya Kumari, Mr. Rohit Kumar, Mr. Amar Raj and Mr. Subodh Kumar (all faculties) have encouraged the youngsters to apply their learnt skills at workplace. On 26th September, 52 trainees from 6th batch (August-September 2017) have received Course Completion Certificate from Mr. P. N. Sharma (Program In-charge) during a simple certification ceremony.
