April 2020: NBJK came forward daringly to participate in the war against the hidden enemy of Corona COVID-19 at different fronts in Hazaribag, Bokaro, Khunti, Deoghar, Jamui, Dumka and Patna districts of Jharkhand-Bihar.

It offered infrastructural support as two buildings, buses & manpower to Hazaribag district administration. Chouparan based LNJP Eye Hospital and SPP School are working as quarantine centers for 275 migrant laborers while for Govt. hospitals of Hazaribag-Dumka and Corona volunteers, it provided medical utilties like N95 mask (190 pcs), surgical mask (15000 pcs), shoe cover (624 pairs), medical gown (50 pcs), head cover (500 pcs), surgical gloves(15800 pcs), sanitizer (110 litres), infrared thermometer (16 pcs), pulsometer (15 pcs) and oxygen cylnder (2 nos.) along with reusable mask (18698 pcs) stitched at organization run sewing centers.

NBJK conducts 16 community kitchens, disributed food materials, sanitation kits to 2288 needy families and 4344 pcs soaps among villagers. Also the community people are being made aware of social distancing, mask wearing & other helpful practices to ensure hygiene.

During this campaign, 105 workers of NBJK could reach to more than 10 thousand people including 2723 Persons with Disabilities in 205 villages of 07 districts with support of Aditya Birla Capital, Plan India, GiveIndia, CBM India, CIni Cell, Tata Trusts, SBI Foundation, Vedanta and many esteemed individual donors.

Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) says ….this could be possible due to our experience in disaster management, transparent modus operandi, trust of donors and a dedicated team of workers.

25 April 2020, Murhu (Khunti): An Awareness Chariot (Jagrukta Rath) by NBJK started movements across Khunti district to make people aware of the myths & realities around COVID-19 keeping view of the rumors spreading rapidly across rural areas.

Mr. Pradip Kr. Bhagat (BDO, Murhu), Mr. Shambhu Ram (CO, Murhu) and Mr. Mohit Purty (Branch Manager, NBJK-Khunti) have flagged off the Rath to disseminate awareness tips in both Hindi & Mundari, the local dialect of this area.

The Rath has a powerful miking system to make people attentive about proper handwashing with soap, use of mask/towel, social distancing, correct information, early recognition & referral as well as of daily updates from the Government.

Also the District Control Room’s contact nos. as 06528-221755, 06528-222509, 06528-222510 & 06528-222511 are being displayed and communicated for people’s instant access to District Control Room. There are one SUV and three Auto Rikshwas in this awareness line in support of the district administration.

20-22 April 2020, Hazaribag-Deoghar: Under Child Centered Community Development program with support of Plan India, NBJK-Churchu has started distributing dry ration and hygiene kit across villages of Churchu block in Hazaribag district. On 20th at Doomar and Lara villages, 142 families got Rice (25 kg), Pulse (1 kg), Mustard Oil (1 lit), Soap (3 pcs) and Sanitary pad (1 packet) for each. The same items have been provided to 218 families of Churchu and Nagri villages on 21st April. The NBJK staffs ensure COVID-19 preventive awareness through interpersonal communication. In coming days, the relief operation will cover around 1,900 families from 21 villages of the block.

On 22nd April in Chouparan block of the district, NBJK has distributed relief packets among all 30 underprivileged households of Bahera Taand village with support of GiveIndia. Each packet contains 5 kg rice, 1 kg pulse, 1 kg gram, ½ litre mustard oil, 2 pcs soap, 5 pcs mask and 6 pcs sanitary napkin.

On the same day in Sadar block of Deoghar district, Team NBJK has distributed Masks (1800 pcs) and Soaps (1000 pcs) to the people in Ramaldih, Shahri, Barsatiya, Gadi and Nawadih villages covered under SBI Gram Seva program with support of SBI Foundation, Mumbai. The distributed masks have been made at the program run tailoring training center by SBI Prerna. The program team reached to households and convinced the community about social distancing with personal hygiene as need of the hour.

17-18 April 2020, Dumka-Bokaro-Khunti: In villages of Jama block of Dumka district in Jharkhand, NBJK has distributed food & sanitation kits among the Persons with Disabilities. In Kathikund block of the district, such villagers have received food packets & masks.

In Chndankiyari & Chas blocks of Bokaro district, second round of mask making campaign has been started by NBJK run Tailoring Training Centers with the target to make 5000 masks again for front-line community health workers & people.

At Khunti, NBJK added 8 migrant laborers as recipients of food packets as following the tweet from Mr. Hemant Soren (Chief Minister, Jharkhand). These laborers belong to Sahibganj district and got stuck due to continued lock down.

13 April 2020, Dumka: NBJK provided 3 layered mask (900 pcs), N95 mask (80 pcs), sanitizer (100 ml vial, 450 pcs), gloves (10,000 pcs), shoe cover (200 pcs) and head cover cap (200 pcs) to district health department. Dr. Anant Kumar Jha (Civil Surgeon-Dumka) has received the medical utilities on behalf of the department. These clinical items will be useful for frontline medical staffs.

Also the organization offered 100 packets of food supplements to Kathikund block administration. Each packet contains Red Lentil (1 kg), Sugar (1 kg), Soybean (1 kg), Gram (1 kg), Mustard Oil (500 ml) and Soap (2 pcs). Social distancing is being followed at CBID project locations.

Mr. Sudarshan Pandey (Branch Manager, NBJK-Dumka), Mr. Amrit Paswan (CBID Program Manager), Mr. Rajkumar, Mr. Dharmendra Kumar and Mr. Pravir Mehta (All Field Staffs) have contributed the relief activities.

09-12 April 2020, Dumka & Khunti: NBJK distributed masks among policemen, health workers, persons with disabilities & their parents in rural areas of Sadar, Kathikund, Jama & Jarmundi blocks of Dumka district. The community is being motivated for hand wash, to use mask and social distancing by CBID program team. The program promoted persons with disabilities started mask making in bulk for stakeholders. For quarantined people at High School-Jama, NBJK provided gram, turmeric powder, soya chunks, pulse, potato and salt to Mr. Sadhucharan Devgam (BDO).

In villages of Murhu block in Khunti district, total 101 underprivileged families are being provided food packets. A rural woman director of Murhu Nari Shakti Kisan Producers Co. Ltd. (the producer company promoted by NBJK) demonstrated hand wash before her community. MNSKPL’s shareholder farmers have supplied 60 MT French beans to Dhanbad. Also Dist. agriculture dept. & JSLPS support the marketing strategy for farm produces like chilli, tomato, jackfruit & watermelon. Under Niti Aayog Survey program, NBJK will work around COVID-19 as to conduct 2 days institutional survey of Sarpanch, ASHAs, AGN, other health workers, community institution members through mobile app for policy level plan to be implemented in Aspirational districts.

On 7th April 2020 at Hazaribag Sadar Hospital, Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) handed over a number of medical utilities as surgical gloves (2000 pairs), general gloves (1900 pairs), N 95 mask (90 pcs), surgical mask (500 pcs), shoe cover (400 pairs), surgical gown (25 pcs), PPE Kit (03 pcs), head cover cap (400 pcs) to Dr. Krishna Kumar (Civil Surgeon, Hazaribag). These clinical items are for identification or caring of COVID infected/suspicious people as well as for safety of doctors & medical team. Also 10 infrared thermometers will be made available to the hospital within next two days.

Mr. Satish Girija said that 273 migrant laborers are safe at NBJK run LNJP Eye Hospital & SPP School-Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag), now functioning as quarantine centers and we sent general gloves (100 pairs), N 95 mask (10 pcs), shoe cover (24 pairs), head cover cap (100 pcs), sanitizer (100 ml vial, 100 pcs), infrared thermometer (01 pc) there.  Also we serve breakfast-tea to quarantined people and caring them 24 hrs, he added.

NBJK Secretary informed that in Churchu (Hazaribag) block @Plan_India we make awareness call to around 200 families daily and will provide dry ration to deprived people as well as masks-gloves-sanitizers to the CHC soon.

In different blocks of Dumka district, groceries are being distributed among underprivileged/PwDs @CBMIndia and medical utilities will be offered to Dumka sadar hospital shortly.

Likewise in rural areas of Khunti district, @tatatrusts @cinicell NBJK is operating 15 community kitchens, ensured food-soap for 250 needy families, provided free cold storage service to farmers, displayed awareness flexes and deputed 5 volunteers at district control room.

Mr. Satish Girija expressed confidently that in collaboration with the government and support organizations, NBJK’s pro people intervention will facilitate many disadvantaged people to survive during this global crisis.

29 March 2020, Chouparan (Hazaribag): Keeping view of Covid-19, NBJK run LokNayak JaiPrakash Eye Hospital provided masks, gloves, sanitizers to local administration & social workers at CHC Chouparan.

The Block Development Officer, Medical Officer, PS In-Charge & other officers assured to distribute all these items among Anganwadi Didis-ASHAs & other community health workers to protect them while working against the pandemic at ground level. Chouparan PS In-Charge told that most of the policemen were in dire need of such utilities to ensure Corona lockdown in the area.

The Government officers have appreciated the move contributed by team LNJPEH comprised of Mr. Sudeep Abhishek, Mr. Karunanidhi and others.

20 March 2020, Bokaro: Team NBJK-Bokaro and CSR Vedanta have taken the initiative of making face mask with a fair price to reduce the crisis of mask at the local markets.

Total 11 Sewing Centers and 1 Hand Gloves Making Unit have started  production of face masks with the target of making 5000 masks within 3 days to prevent the panic of COVID-19 to some extent and to infuse a sense of security among common people.

The program is being run by NBJK in 29 villages of Chas and Chandankiyari blocks of Bokaro district in Jharkhand with CSR support of Electrosteel Steels Ltd., a Vedanta Group Company.

20 March 2020, Dumka: Mr. Shakeeb Khan (Program Officer, CBM-Bangalore) has visited LNJP Eye Hospital-Dumka, operational villages and met target beneficiaries to assess their improvement. He was accompanied by Mr. Anand Abhinav (Program Director, NBJK), Mr. Amrit Paswan (Program Manager, NBJK) and program team members.
