Memories of Emergency 25 June 1975: A Symposium

25 June 2022, Amritnagar (Hazaribagh): District Lok Samiti, Hazaribagh organized a symposium as “Memories of Emergency 25 June 1975” at NBJK premises. Mr. Swarupchand Jain (JP movement agitator & senior advocate) chaired the event and called people’s awareness as most important in context of any threat to democratic values.

Initially Mr. Girija Satish, an activist during anti-emergency movement and currently National President of Lok Samiti (a non-political organization founded by JP) introduced the theme and briefed about background of Emergency. He mentioned sufferings of common people at that time and said that still imperialist forces are involved in oppression of innocent people worldwide. He said that power politics divide people, some laws harass social workers and create undeclared emergency like situation. Expressing concern over centralization of wealth, Mr. Girija Satish said that conditions of real democracy are fulfilled only by Gram Swaraj and decentralization.

Mr. Gautam Sagar Rana (former MLA) criticized faulty impressions around feudal power struggle as a source of communal discord as this may lead to partition of India once again and stressed the need to preserve unity in diversity.

Mr. Umesh Pratap (Social worker & journalist) appealed to follow civil obligation, to make stand against general trend and asked why no other Gandhi, JP, Subhash emerges from our society? Prof (Mrs.) Lalita Rana said that JP had envisioned a comprehensive change by establishing youth power, which is possible only on the basis of cultured education, character building and personality development. Also Mr. Shamsher Alam, Prof. Digambar Pandey, Mr. Bateshwar Mehta, Mr. Arvind Jha, Mr. Krishna Thakur have expressed their views on this occasion.

Mr. Shankar Rana conducted dais while Mr. Abhay Kumar proposed vote of thanks. Nearly 60 persons have participated in the symposium.

Family Counseling Center’s Sub-Committee Meeting

23 June 2022, Hazaribagh: Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi and Jharkhand State Social Welfare Board, Ranchi supported Family Counseling Center by NBJK has called it’s Sub-committee meeting today at the premises of Anupam Mahila Chetna Samiti, Ravinda Path, Hazaribagh.

The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Usha Devi (Secretary, AMCS) who suggested inviting newly elected Mukhiya, Dy. Mukhiiya and other members of Panchayat Samitis in this meeting as they will be helpful in settlement of family disputes being dealt by FCC. Mr. Tulsi Dubey (Senior Advocate) said that FCC should refer unsolved cases to court which can reconcile those with legal procedures. Other members recommended for handbill distribution in villages to make people aware of the service by FCC.

Mrs. Meera Gupta (Counselor, FCC) has tabled quarterly (April-June’22) report of FCC before Sub-committee members. The report depicted that 32 cases of family dispute have been registered during the period as marital disput-13, mental-physical atrocity-6, alcoholic violence-6, dispute with in-laws-4, extramarital relation-1 & other-1. She said about reconciliation of total 15 cases by FCC.

Also Mrs. Sheela Kumari (Secretary, Stri Shakti), Mrs. Sharda Devi, Mr. Umesh Kumar and Mr. Sanjay Kumar (Counselor, FCC) have participated in the meeting.

Celebration of International Yoga Day and Eye Screening Camp on occasion of 75th Anniversary of Independence

21 June 2022, Chakai-Chauparan: Under NBJK run and SBI Foundation supported SBI Gram Seva project at 05 operational villages of Chakai block (Jamui, Bihar), youths-children have celebrated International Yoga Day and practiced various Asanas. Mr. S.K. Yajal (PM, NBJK-SBIGS) motivated them to make this an integral part of their routine.

Also at NBJK’s Surekha Prakashbhai Public School at Bahera, Chauparan (Hazaribagh, Jharkhand), a Yoga Camp was organized on this occasion. All teachers & students have attended the camp under instructions from Mrs. Angira Devi (Yoga teacher). Ms. Rina Pandey (Principal, SPBPS) appealed all to do Yoga daily if we want to be strong mentally and physically.

Besides this, on occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav e. g. 75th Anniversary of Independence, NBJK run LNJP Eye Hospital, Bahera (Chauparan, Hazaribagh) has organized eye screening camp at Pandeybara premises of Rajkeshri Constructions associated with GT road & flyover construction work in this area.

More than 200 staffs, officers of Construction Company including local people have gone through their eye checkup and got consultation with medicines.

Sightsavers-NBJK Launch Inclusive Eye Health Program

16 June 2022, Hazaribagh: In collaboration with Sightsavers, NBJK launched Inclusive Eye Health program and an Eye Screening Camp held on this occasion at Hotel Snow Valley.

Mr. Sudipto Mohanti (Regional Director, Sightsavers) was chief guest of this event. Also Dr. Shankar Chaudhary (DBCS, Hazaribagh), Mrs. Rekha Rani (CDPO, Sadar Block), Mr. Saurabh Kumar (District Manager, JSLPS), Dr. Jitendra Kumar (SPM, Sightsavers), Dr. Umesh Kumar (Ophthalmologist, Sadar Hospital, Hazaribagh), Mr. Satyjit Singh (DPO, Sightsavers), Ms. Anandita (JSLPS, Hazaribagh) and Mr. Kirti Rawat (DPM, Sightsavers) have accompanied him.

The eye camp has ensured total 56 OPD including 21 special children with low vision. All these differently abled persons, special children and old aged people in need of eye care could get proper checkup with consultation free of cost.

Anti Alcohol Convention at Potka

13 June 2022, Potka (East Singhbhum): Under joint auspices of District Lok Samiti, NBJK & Yuva Jagriti Evang Swawlamban Sangh and with support of Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, one day Anti Alcohol Convention held at the auditorium of Potka Panchayat Bhawan.

Gandhian thinker & president of National Lok Samiti Mr. Girija Satish was keynote speaker of this event. He termed liquor as a family, social & financial problem which creates numerous occasions of family turmoil, disease, financial crisis, crime, road accident every year. He referred about article 47 & 51 of Indian constitution that directs state to ban alcohol. We shouldn’t make comparison with abroad where climate, family-social system are quite different, he mentioned. Mr. Girija Satish put example of Bihar where women have pressurized the state Government for prohibition despite a myth of revenue loss. He said about channelizing of women’s anger against alcohol with right direction as to send strong message for political parties that without liquor prohibition they can’t win elections. He discussed about JP the legendary mass leader and his concept of Total Revolution which calls for moral uplift in society.

Earlier the local organizers have honoured Mr. Girija Satish with an Angawastram and he lit the lamp as well as offered flowers to a photograph of JP.

During the convention, Mr. Suraj Mandal (Member, Jila Parishad) expressed his full support to this anti-liquor campaign and assured for co-operation. Mr. Paanav Jee (local Mukhiya) said about his previous efforts for prohibition and appealed people to come forward. Ms. Vaasanti Sardar (social activist) talked about hindrances on way to prohibition and requested people including administration to support the mission. Strong women can contribute a lot to make an effective law against liquor across India, Mrs. Chaamee Jee (President Awardee on Women Empowerment) pointed out while Mr. Angoora Mahto (Gandhi Ashram, Simla) demanded for liquor ban immediately keeping view of trouble for women & children. Mr. K. G. Azad (National Coordinator, Lok Samiti) has informed about a nationwide campaign with likeminded organizations to be launched against alcohol. Mr. Shankar Rana (Coordinator, Jharkhand State Lok Samiti) stressed upon constant advocacy for success.

Mr. Siddheshwar Sardar chaired the convention and suggested for initiative to get rid of liquor. Mr. Rajesh Singh Deo has conducted dais and opined that liquor prohibition is essential to eradicate social evils like women atrocity, superstition & others.

More than 300 persons, mostly women from Potka and nearby villages have participated in this anti-liquor convention and conveyed their full support.

Health Checkup Camps by NBJK

10 June 2022, Hazaribagh: NBJK organizes health checkup camps at remote villages in Barkagaon and Keredari blocks of Hazaribagh district.

Anyone can get doctor’s consultation, diagnostic tests, medicines etc for diabetes, blood pressure, cold-cough, fever, other common & eye related diseases by submitting a registration charge of Rs. 10 only. There is no charge for registration of Cataract patients and their surgery is being done free of cost at the organization run LNJP Eye Hospital, Bahera (Chauparan, Hazaribagh).

Association for India’s Development-USA, Vision 2020-Australia and Action Village India-UK support this Outreach Health Camp Campaign.

During the period of 02-10 June 2022, such 19 health camps took place at villages like Saand, Deoriya, Garikala, Baadam, Gondalpura, Chandol, Ambajit, Chepakhurd, Joko, Salga etc with 1536 OPD and made treatment available to 159 with high sugar level, 205 with high blood pressure and 203 with cataract including others.

There are two teams associated with the campaign and Dr. Mukesh, Dr. R. N. Sinha, Mr. Praveen Kumar, Mrs. Sunita, Mrs. Neelam, Mr. Sujit Mishra, Mr. Rajeev Kumar are playing key role in this initiative.

Around 25% – 30% Deoghar Urban Children found with Refractive Errors

07 June 2022, Deoghar: Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation supported and NBJK run Vimla Ramkrishna Bajaj Eye Hospital is organizing Free Eye Screening Camps amid schools and found that about 25% – 30% school children are suffering from refractive errors. This is quite alarming and a matter of concern for our policy makers.

Mr. Sudarshan Pandey (VRBEH, Deoghar) said that we have screened about 400 school children at various schools at Deoghar and more than one fourth of them are in need of refractive correction immediately. Some children are unable to see properly from the distance of only 2 meters even, he adds. When asked whether they informed their parents about such problem earlier, most of them agreed and said about negligence on part of parents.

Mr. Anand Abhinav (Program Director, NBJK) admits that such ratio is quite higher than national average of around 10% refractive errors and it would have happened because of continuous online classes during Covid time for last two years and less physical activities by children.

He appealed the parents to motivate their children to participate in the campaign of Free Eye Screening Camps in schools for eye checkup. Also he insisted to take initiative to know about any eye problem with children and to get proper treatment if they come to know about such eye complication with children if we want to save their vision.

NBJK-SBI Gram Seva Celebrate World Environment Day with Mango Plants Distribution

05 June 2022, Chakai (Jamui, Bihar): World Environment Day was celebrated under SBI Foundation supported and NBJK run SBI Gram Seva project.

On this occasion, 265 mango plants have been distributed among 42 villagers at Chhachudih village of Ramchandradih panchayat in Chakai block of Jamui district (Bihar).

Mr. Dhirendra Kumar Dheeraj (NBJK-SBIGS, Chakai) said that right from the beginning we put effort to empower farmers and this time we aim to distribute 1000 fruit plants across all 05 project villages namely Heth Chakai, Patjori, Mamtadih, Garhi including Chhachudih.

Many villagers like Mr. Rameshwar Yadav, Mr. Gujeshwar Yadav, Mr. Jago Ray, Mr. Varun Ray, Mr. Raju Pandit, Shibu Sahu, Mr. Virendra Pandit, Mr. Karu Sahu and others have received the plants.

MNSKPCL Won Second Prize in ONGC Exhibition

04 June 2022, New Delhi: Murhu Nari Shakti Producer Co. Ltd. erected Lac Handicrafts Stall won Second Prize on stall exhibition in ONGC Exhibition organized by ONGC Foundation at New Delhi.

The company has been promoted by CInI-Tata Trusts & NBJK in the year 2018 and it started Lac Handicrafts Unit during Sep’21 at Digdi and Binda villages of Murhu block in Khunti district (Jharkhand) with support of ONGC Foundation.

The initiative ensured value addition to lac produce with enhanced income of lac producer shareholders of MNSKPCL and provided direct employment to around 50 women from villages.

Ophthalmologist Removes a Piece of Needle from Eye of Retina Patient

01 June 2022, Bahera Ashram (Chauparan, Hazaribagh): During a retina surgery held on 31 May 2022 at NBJK run LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital, Bahera (Chauparan, Hazaribagh), about 8 mm long piece of tailoring needle has been removed from left eye of a patient. He is Md. Gufran, son of Sattar Miyan, Nawadih (Gaya) and that metal piece was staying in his eye since last four years.

When asked about beginning of the problem, Md. Gufran told that he is a tailor by profession and about 4 years back when he was busy on sewing machine, suddenly something penetrated quickly in his eye and left a prick like feeling. Since that pain was not so acute, I took it lightly and depended upon home remedies. That sting persisted and I went to many places for treatment but couldn’t get any relief.

Lastly I came to LNJPEH, with initial checkup they referred me to Retina unit and after surgery I could know about this needle’s piece inside my eye, Gufran says.

Dr. (Ms.) Archna Kumari who operated Md. Gufran’ eye, articulates about dipping of such metal piece in retina which caused gradual decline of vision and If it is not removed for a few more days then the patient’s eye could be completely damaged with last option as complete removal of infected eye but we have avoided that successfully, she adds.

Md. Gufran, the eye patient expresses sincere gratitude towards Dr. Archna with entire team of LNJPEH and shares about his post surgery happiness. These people have saved my livelihood and my family as many people are dependent upon me, he states.
