fcc228 July 2015, Hazaribag: NBJK run Family Counselling Centre has organized its Sub-Committee meeting at Women’s Police Station, Hazaribag and members have reviewed the performance of FCC which gets  support from CSWB, New Delhi through JSSWB, Ranchi to help out  women & children suffering from family dispute or domestic violence in Hazaribag district. The sub-committee members have considered previous report, suggestions and their observance by FCC. Mrs. Meera Gupta (Counsellor) has informed the members about village awareness meeting against domestic violence, impartial information gathering and better coordination with police as compliance to previous suggestions. She has tabled the quarterly report (May – July, 2015) during the meeting which referred to registration of 27 cases of family disputes (marital 10, liquor 06, land 02, In-laws 04, molestation 02, widow eviction 01, desertion  01 and superstition 01) with reconciliation for 07 cases (marital 03, liquor 02 and In-laws 02). The counsellors have assured to settle the pending cases shortly. The members have recommended for prompt information to women police station in case of obscene calls and to call on 9431706325 for immediate help to victims of sexual abuse. Sub-committee members like Mrs. Ameltina Ekka (In-charge, women’s police station), Mrs. Saloni Soe (ASI-WPS), Mr. Satish Girija (NBJK), Mr. Tulsi Dubey, Mr. Arvind Jha, Ms Veena Sethi (all advocates), Mrs. Yashoda Devi, Mrs. Urmila Ekka, Mr. Nandlal Saw (all mukhiyas), Dr. H. L. Saha, Baba Shamshaad Alam, Sr. Rosily (all social workers) and delegates of two local NGOs were present in the meeting.

library215 June 2015, Bodhgaya: Now the children of Lord Buddha Home for Children have more books to enjoy. LBHC, the orphanage by NBJK with support of SKB (the Netherlands) has added this facility to promote love for good books among youngsters. A library has been started here with necessary items like cupboards, sign board, carpet, battery, inverter and computer. It has purchased 197 books in English from Pratham Books, 113 in Hindi from Eklavya Prakashan and 100 other books like autobiography, motivational, stories, comics and periodical magazines initially to compete with the interest of adolescent readers. LBHC children use to visit their library, feel the dignity of good books and like to be upgraded with the enormous knowledge they possess. The library has a time-table to visit and younger children go there on every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday for two hours. Since the children are growing and they need good friends as the books at this point, said Mr. Pawan Lal Gupta (Manager, LBHC) after opening of the library.

carer24 August 2015, Hazaribag: A convention of Carer SHGs was held at NBJK coordination office on Carers Day with support of Carers Worldwide and Commonwealth Foundation, UK. 75 representatives from SHGs of Carers promoted by NBJK were present in the convention inaugurated by Dr. Dharmveer Prasad (Civil Surgeon, Hazaribag) and Dr. Anil Patil (Founder & ED, Carers Worldwide) jointly. Dr. Dharmveer has greeted the program for carers by NBJK with support of Carers Worldwide and called this as an innovative measure in service of hidden service providers in our homes and villages. He has assured for the assistance possible within his prerogative and conveyed best wishes to the program. Dr. Anil Patil (ED, Carers Worldwide) has drawn attention over the pitiable condition of carers and called for support to mitigate their health and livelihood related problems they meet in daily lives additional to taking care for  their family members suffering from disability, mental illness or old age. Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) has welcomed all guests and participants in the convention and defined Caring for Carers as a visionary program in villages from Sadar, Daru, Ichak, Katkamsandi and Katkamdag blocks of Hazarribag district. He has briefed about stake of Carers in programs like Rights to PWDs, their skill development and Mental Health & Development by NBJK. Around 97% identified carers are women and their empowerment is a key concern for us, he pointed out. Mr. Girija Satish has suggested for a Carers Home in Hazaribag and skill development training to them for livelihood support. There were carers like Md. Umar, Rajkumari Devi, Kishori Kumari, Girija Devi, Sunita Devi, Anuradha Sharma and others who shared their experience in caring of their relatives and asked for the support. The program team of Mrs. Vimla Rana, Mrs. Pratima Devi, Mr. Kamal Pandey, Mr. Sujit Mishra, Md. Nayeem and Mr. Rajeev Singh (team leader) has organized the Carers’ Convention.

19 July, Chhatarpur: Lok Samiti, the people’s organization founded by veteran Sarvodaya leader Jaiprakash Narayan, has expanded its wing in Madhya Pradesh also. Mindful citizens have taken initiative and a meeting was held at Gandhi Smarak Bhawan, Chhatarpur on 19 July                                                       under leadership of Mr. Ramcharan Awasthi, a freedom fighter and follower of Mahatma Gandhi. The meeting was observed by Mr. Kaushal Ganesh Azad (National Coordinator) and Mr. Ashok Sharan (Member, National Executive) to see the procedure and further task of organizational expansion for Lok Samiti in Madhya Pradesh. This resulted as the formation of Madhya Pradesh Lok Samiti and names of the office bearers have been declared as Mr. Bhupendra Tripathi (President), Mr. Rajendra Namdev (Secretary), Prof. S. R. Paul (Treasurer) and Mr. Ravi Prakash Shukla (Spokesperson). While Mr. Sanjay Singh, Mr. Brij Bihari, Mr. Prabhat Tiwari, Mr. Lal Singh Gaud, Mr. Yatindra Kaushik and Mr. Ankit Mishra are members of state executive committee. The state committee has released a list of district coordinators as Mr. Prabhat Tiwari (Chhatarpur), Mr. Lal Singh Gaud (Tikamgarh), Mr. Vinod Niranjan      (Panna), Quazee Ekhtyar Hussain (Shahdol), Mr. Sanjay Bishwas (Anup Pur) and Mr. Dashrath Singh (Sagar). Newly elected president of MPLS Mr. Bhupendra Tripathi has expressed commitment for democratic values and mass awareness on the issues of reform in election system & judiciary, prohibition to liquor & superstitious practices, agriculture, governance and communalism. He assured for formation of executive committee in all districts and a state level convention till December 2015.

NBJK run Loknayak Jaiprakash Eye hospital, Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag) has treated 500 patients of diabetic retinopathy successfully since launching of the special program on preventive and curative measures for the disease in July 2013 with support of World Diabetes Foundation, Denmark. Mr. Aseem Ali (Asst. Manager, LNJPEH) has informed about awareness drive in 100 villages and quiz competition in 50 schools over diabetic retinopathy by the hospital. He referred the data by WDF about 170 million diabetic people worldwide with assumed number of 366 million by the year 2030 while 1.85 million people are currently suffering from the blindness namely diabetic retinopathy caused by diabetes. It’s significant that with support of World Diabetes Foundation, LNJPEH could serve such patients with modern equipments and remarkable precision at the small village of Bahera as most of the people are unable to afford proper treatment of this sort of sightlessness at distant places. Mr. Ali has added further about growing number of diabetic patients in villages also where people are supposed to be hard workers manually. The eye hospital organizes screening camps in remote villages to access people in dire need of eye care and provides them all possible medical help immediately with the objective of quality service at low cost.

NBJK Iftar 2Dawat-e-Iftar and All Faiths Meet by NBJK: Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra and Lok Samiti have organized Dawat-e-Iftar at Hotel Akashdeep, Hazaribag on 9th July. The event was participated by around 150 Rozedars from all sections of society and Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) has greeted them on the occasion in this holy month of Ramadan. After Magrib namaz, a Sarvadharm Sambhaav meeting was held there and many prominent citizens have shared their views upon religious understanding and discussed the ways to harmonize people. The program is solely devoted to peace and fraternity in society and all great personalities of different religious faiths have shown us the way we should live, said Mr. Girija Satish during his welcome address for the meeting. He expressed concern over the worldwide disputes in the name of religions that compel us to involve millions of security forces as unproductive and purchase of armaments at the cost of poor people. Md Islam Khan has praised India as the great land where ancient Hindu scriptures have called that God as formless and the cause behind all causes. Sardar Jaswant Singh has appealed to realize the different systems of worship the One, the omnipresent. Father Seletry has correlated eternal values of kindness and compassion for all with any religion. Mr. Swarupchand Jain was for control over desires as the base for rituals and valued Indian democracy with enough space for followers of diverse faiths. Dr. Faruqui has called the God as most merciful and described renunciation as the guiding spirit for any religious activity. Prof. R. S. Ambasttha has matched humanity with religions while all the great messengers are not known by their portraits but by the characters, opined Prof. Subodh Singh Shivageet.  Mr Gautam Sagar Rana, Md Khalid, Mr Ghulam Zilani, Mr Satish Girija, Mr Ashok Yadav, Mr Arjun Yadav, Mr Razi Alam, Mr K G Azad, Mr Shamsher Alam, Mr Dungarmal Jain and Mr Shyam Kishor Singh were present in the all faiths meet.

Tholkobeda Becomes ODF Village

Tholkobeda village of Jokbahar panchayat in Sadar block of Simdega district was declared Open Defecation Free village during a function held in the village on 28 June by Tholkobeda Gram Sabha and the District Unit of Swachh Bharat Mission under auspices of NBJK-GSF run sanitation program. Mrs Vimla Pradhan (MLA, Simdega) was chief guest of the celebration who congratulated villagers for such achievement and encouraged them for use and maintenance of the toilets. Mr. Prem Prakash Kido (President, Gram Sabha) has placed a resolution on Tholkobeda as ODF village that was passed unanimously by the villagers. Also they decided to make open defecation as a punishable offence with a penalty of Rs. 50. The amount will be used for preventive measures and repair of toilets. Tholkobeda village has a population of 440 and there are 92 households with toilet facility for each house. The villagers have developed a practice to use toilets by all and made their village ODF recently. Mr. Deepak Puri (MLA representative), Mr. Neil Justin Bake (Member, District Council), Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK), Mr. Mrityunjay Chandra (State Program Manager, GSF) and many PRI members have participated in the program. Mr. Chandreshwar Munda (Mukhiya, Jokbahar panchayat) has briefed about the ODF campaign and its transforming impact over the village.

Farmers’ Festival at Khunti

Mother Earth gives us a lot but she needs our love only as we offer her just small seeds and get even big trees, said Mr. Santosh satpathy (Principal Secretary-Personnel, GoJ) in the Farmers’ festival held at Saparom village in Khunti district on 24 June under joint auspices of NBJK, SRTT – CinI and Agriculture department (GoJ). The village was on the way for Krishi Rath (an Agri-Info Van) by the state government in every district to be in touch with farmers. Mr. Satpathy has praised local farmers for their innovative approach and suggested them to grow tomato on idle land with checking rain water and to make use of SRI method for paddy farming. Mr. J. S. Choudhary (Director, Agriculture) has encouraged farmers to develop barren land in their villages with support of the government. Mr. P. K. Baghmare (Dy. Commissioner, Khunti) has welcomed the efforts being made by NBJK, CInI and SRTT for sustainable agriculture in the district. He advised for other seasonal crops by farmers and assured for needed assistance. Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) has shared his view to replace the image of Khunti as a center for human trafficking with the natural place for self reliant tribal community. There were 32 pump sets, 4 sprayers and improved verities of seeds distributed among farmers on this occasion. The program was graced by Ms Neerja Kumari (SDO), Mr P. R. Mishra (ASP-Operation), Mr Edmond Minj (DAO), Ms Sushma Lakra (BDO), Ms Rashmi Lakra (CO), Ms. Vartika Jainee (CInI), field workers and villagers.

Teachers Training under CCCD Program

During 23 – 26 June, 26 teachers from 12 Government Primary and Middle Schools of Churchu block have attended Buniyad / Buniyad Plus training at NBJK Coordination Office under Child Centered Community Development program in Churchu block with support of Plan India. Buniyad is an educational module for impressive classroom teaching to cater more children at a time. This is basically a play way method for primary classes with use of games and songs. Mr. Arun Jee (State Resource Person) has introduced the very concept, objectives and application of the module developed for attention-grabbing teaching to children. In second phase of the training, Mr. Jyotish Kumar (Resource Person) has elaborated about Level Determination, Group Division, Learning Information, Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation, Complete Teaching and Public Reading Method. He focused upon sentence formation, poem writing and teaching – learning process. Before this, government teachers of the block have participated in the training on Positive Discipline organized by CCCD at Block Resource Center at Charhee (Hazaribag) on 20 June. Mr. Rajiv Sinha (Plan, Ranchi) has explained about Child Protection Policy, Child Rights, Role & Responsibility of Teachers, Qualitative Teaching including Enrollment and Retention of Children in their schools. There were 51 teachers from 12 schools in the training along with Mr. Laldeo Yadav (Block Education Officer, Churchu). A team of CCCD  program comprising M/s Ranjan Kumar (Program Manager), Arvind Prasad (Project Coordinator), Bijay Kumar, Parmeshwar Rana, Shailendra Kumar, Ashok Mishra and Md. Azad has played important role in organizing both of the training programs for teachers.

Under aegis of the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development, CHILDLINE India Foundation, Kolkata has initiated Childline Hazaribag with support of local NGOs including NBJK. There was an in house training for the partner organizations at NBJK coordination office during 27 – 31 May. There were 25 participants from Darpan, Jan Sewa Parishad, Srijan Foundation, Samadhan and Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra in the training. Mrs. Harshmanjari Nanada and Ms Meghali (Resource Persons, Childline India) have informed about Childline, an all time toll free telephone and outreach service for children in need of care and protection. They explained about the Childline number 1098 serviceable at 330 places across India which aims to facilitate an environment for promotion of child rights in its coverage areas. The service has been started for Hazaribag district also in coordination with the district administration and VOs working with children for a long time. Darpan and Srijan Foundation are the Nodal and Collaborative organizations while Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra, Jan Sewa Parishad and Samadhan are the Sub-center organizations for Chouparan, Barkagaon and Bishungarh blocks respectively. Mr. Chandra Kumar, Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Mr. Ramabriksha Yadav, Mr. Sanjiv Bhattacharya and Mr. Prabhunath Sharma have contributed to the training organized to work smoothly over the issues concerning children of Hazaribag.
