02 October, Hazaribag: NBJK has organized a symposium over “Gandhi: A Great Personality” at its coordination office in village – Amrit Nagar, Hazaribag. The program was initiated with garlanding the portrait of Mahtma Gandhi by Mr. Girija Satish (Founder & President, NBJK) and others. His South Africa tour was much vital and Gandhi Jee experienced a turning point there, as Mr. Girija Satish has mentioned lucidly before the audience. Also he explained about the volatile situation at the time of his last moments as the nation was divided on communal line and Gandhi has offered his life for sake of common people suffering from uncontrolled riots and violence. Mr. Girija Satish appreciated enough space in Gandhian ideology for an individual or even a nation with rational views upon naturopathy, vegetarianism and stand against liquor including discriminations of our age. Mr. Gautam Sagar Rana (Political Leader) has pointed out the relevance of Gandhi against religious intolerance, environmental imbalance and terrorism worldwide. Dr. Vishwanath Azad (SHARC, Hazaribag) has charged post-independence power centers as they couldn’t care for Gandhian values in public life while Mr. Pravesh Singh (NBJK) called him a sun disseminating light over darkness. Our family is the best place to initiate towards Gandhi, Mr. Arjun Yadav (JP movement) opined and Mrs. Sheela Kumari (Mahila Lok Samiti) has found the power of truth behind Gandhi that makes him a great personality. 31 people from different streams have attended the symposium planned by a team comprising Mr. Rajiv Singh, Md. Nayeem and Mr. Shankar Rana.
19 Sep’15, Hazaribag: Under Sense India (Ahmedabad) supported Services for deafblind Children program, an outing was organized for such children at Swarnjayanti Cafeteria Park, Hazaribag. 16 deafblind children have participated in the picnic with their parents or carers and enjoyed various group activities like drawing; empathy based intelligent games including tasteful lunch surrounded by an encouraging milieu. Mr. Santosh Kumar Shrivastava (Branch Manager, IDBI Bank – Hazaribag) was invited to encourage the children on this occasion. He observed and shared this event with appreciations for the services made available to deafblind children by NBJK and Sense. Md. Nayeem (Program Coordinator) has requested the parents to inform about more children suffering from deafblindness or multisensory impairments in their localities to get specialized support. He has briefed about ADL (Activities of Daily Living), physiotherapy, functional reading-writing, sign language, parents training and other activities under the program. The outing has made deafblind children happier when they got shoes sponsored by Plan India for them. Mrs. Indu Gupta, Ms Rashmi Parveen and Mr. Parasnath Mahto of the program team have contributed in organizing the event.
1 – 4 Sep’15, Hazaribag: Only activities are not enough rather change based management is vital, Mr. Prakash Layak (ASK, Gurgaon) has said during Outcome & Impact orientation to NBJK and partner VOs on Food Security. He viewed the goal of food security achievable as changes in people’s lives, identifying such transformation, assessment of the linked process and by ensuring its continuity. Mr. Layak, the resource person has rationalized the initiative by NBJK & 22 grassroots organizations from Jharkhand and Bihar to provide food security for 2500 needy people within next 3 years by facilitating them for self reliance, defined selection of beneficiaries and through a collective endeavor. He has made the theme much interesting by group discussion, films and case studies. Mr. Rajeev Kumar Singh (Program Manager, NBJK) has informed about the orientation as specific one for capacity building of the VOs and towards strengthening the idea for food self reliance among poor people in their operational areas with support of Bread for the World, Germany.
01 September 2015, Chatra: NBJK run Loknayak Jai Prakash Eye Hospital (Bahera, Chouparan) has organized an Inclusion Workshop on Eye Care with support of Sightsavers (Kolkata) at the Civil Surgeon Office of Chatra district, Jharkhand. Dr. S. P. Singh (Civil Surgeon) has applauded the initiative and assured for systemic support to the cause. He admitted the constraint like shortage of ophthalmologists and praised LNJPEH for its services. During opening session, Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) has welcomed the Civil Surgeon and officials of district health department for the workshop focused upon mutual cooperation with District Blindness Control Society. He mentioned about Satellite Centre at Chatra town and Eye Screening Camps in remote villages of the district by LNJPEH as an initiative to be scaled up with other measures by the district administration. Dr. Jitendra Kumar (Sightsavers) has stated about poor health index of Chatra district where 93% people live in villages and 66% are below poverty line. He suggested for training to Sahiyas (village level health workers) by the hospital to identify and facilitate eye patients towards further treatment. The eye hospital was represented by Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Program Manager) who briefed about the wide range of eye care services available there including quality treatment for Diabetic Retinopathy. We did more than 2 lacs OPDs, 46000 cataract surgeries and 24000 refractions with 65% cases free or subsidized, pointed out Mr. Gaurav. Md. Asim Ali (Asst. Manager) has expressed concern over low CSR (Cataract Surgery Ratio) that can be enhanced with collective efforts. Mr. T. K. Sinha (DPO – NRHM) has assured to prepare a micro plan for such orientation to Sahiyas.
18 August 2015, Khunti: Mr. N. M. Sinha, IAS (Principal Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, GoJ) has paid a visit to Latardih and Ruthdih villages of Gutuhatu panchayat in Murhu block (district – Khunti). These villages are work area of NBJK under agriculture & livestock rearing based livelihood program for tribal community with support of CInI-Tata Trust, Mumbai. During his visit, Mr. Sinha has observed the work approach and interacted with villagers. He visited tomato plot patch, lac cultivation locality and a collective nursery of cabbage. The farmers and SHG members were open to the senior bureaucrat and explained him about their modus operandi including income pattern and problems they face Mr. N. M. Sinha has suggested them to plan properly for water resource structures and instructed district officials to collate such works in MGNREGA schemes. Mr. Rajesh (board member, CInI), Ms Vartika Jiani, Mr. Shirsendu Paul, Ms Garima Kumari (Tata Trust), Mr. Mohit Purty and Mr. Abhijit Mal (NBJK, Khunti) have accompanied the RD Secretary for visiting the villages.
18 August, Hazaribag: Brahmakumaris from the Hazaribag based center of BKE Vishwavidyalaya (Mt. Abu, Raj.) have offered Raksha-bandhan to NBJK staffs and office bearers. In a simple ceremony, Brahmakumari Rajmati Bahen has fastened the sacred thread over the wrists of Mr Girija Satish (President, NBJK), Mr. Prabhunath Sharma (Treasurer, NBJK) along with program managers and field staffs. Rajmati Bahen has greeted NBJK people as trusted brothers in service of humanity and requested them to give up any demerit as the gift to their beloved sisters. She has saluted India for observing such a festival to symbolize the bond of love between sisters & brothers. Mr. Girija Satish has acknowledged the initiative of Raksha-bandhan by Brahmakumaris as a reminder to be good brothers and appealed to adopt vegetarianism as its natural for human beings. The God is one, omnipresent and this condition should be applied in our daily life, said Mr. Prabhunath Sharma. Brahmakumaris Ganga Bahen and Sunita Bahen have knotted Raksha-bandhan to other staff members while Brahmakumar Ramdev has introduced BKE Vishwavidyalaya. The event was like a motivational session for most of the people.
17-18 August 2015, Ranchi: Jharkhand possesses only 8% forest as remains with increasing carbon emission and unexpected change in climate here is a part of the global challenge posed for our eco system, economic development and the society as a whole, said Mr. H. S. Gupta (Chairman, Jharkhand Tribal Development Society) as the chief guest in the workshop on Climate Change & Sustainable Development organized by NBJK (Ranchi) with support from INECC and LAYA. He called for an eco friendly system on development to make the world safe for all. The program was initiated with the welcome note by Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) who has introduced the theme and discussed over Jharkhand Action Plan on Climate Change. This vital and complex issue needs proper attention of policy makers to be addressed urgently with a vision for future, he said. Ms Ajita Tiwary (INECC) has regretted over negligence on climate change in Jharkhand despite industrialization and found a key role for CBOs to fill the gap. Mr. Sanjay (CANSA, Delhi) has correlated nature caused disasters with climate change and Mr. Madhukar (Senior Journalist) has suggested to think for farmers as they are victims of the development with deforestation. Prof. R. Sharan has warned about the danger as trend of extremes occurs frequently in every season. Mr. Sanjay Basu Mallik pleaded for promotion of indigenous knowledge with farmers. 20 grass root organizations have participated in the workshop. Mr. Rajeev Singh and Mr. Rakesh Singh (NBJK program managers) have worked together to organize the event.
15 August 2015, Hazaribag: Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra has celebrated 69th Independence Day of the nation with tricolor hoisting by Mr. Girija Satish (President) at coordination office amid national anthem. During his address, he praised the contribution of freedom fighters to make India as a sovereign and democratic country. Only economic prosperity does not work and we need inclusive development with a change in our mindset to defeat poverty, diseases and superstitions, pointed out Mr. Girija Satish after recent incidents of witch hunting in Jharkhand. He referred equality as well as decentralization like foundation stones for any democratic set up and considered relevance of Mahatma Gandhi to move forward as a nation. NBJK president has reiterated the vow to reach people in need and greeted all staff members on the day. At Surekha Prakashbhai Public School (Chouparan), the national flag was unfurled by Mr. Girija Satish and students have performed a disciplined salutation parade. Their cultural show was inaugurated by the NBJK president and Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Director, SPPS) jointly. This was a good composition with a number of theme based ballet, group dance and individual presentations. The students of class VII, IX, X and junior sections have been widely acknowledged for their show. Child artists like Baby Nisha Raj, baby Riya and Mr. Indrajit Sharma (teacher) have earned special acclamation from the audience.
10 – 11 August 2015, Patna: a regional network meeting was organized by Sense International India at Sewa Kendra, Patna and partner VOs from West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa have sent their teams including parents of deafblind children. The meeting was organized under Abhiprerna & Prayas network. NBJK works with deafblind children in Hazaribag, Ramgarh and Ranchi districts of Jharkhand. Its team was represented by project staff and parents of such children from the districts. Mr. Deepak Sharma (Senior Network Officer, Sense) has explained the importance of network and weighed for advocacy to minimize the problems with deafblind children. He stressed over the need of organizing local network linked with the families of db cases to be a voice still unrepresented. Ms Mallika Das (In-charge, Abhiprerna-east zone) and Ms Annapurna Maruvda (Counselor) have focused upon activities and behaviors to deal with any db child. They shared important information needed in this field of a delicate intervention and ensured demonstration of some of the activities by participants also. 5 -7 August 2015, Patna: Mr. Parabhunath Sharma (Treasurer, NBJK) has ensured his participation in the training on Effective Documentation and Use of Social Media organized for partner VOs of Oxfam, Patna. On 5 August, the presentation by Ms Adya Gupta (Oxfam India) on How NGO can Use Social Media (to showcase work & create public engagement) has covered the subject judiciously and introduced it for partner organizations. She was down to earth and demonstrated various tools for online communication. Due to increasing number of net users, it became unavoidable to share the platform, she has justified. The training has covered relevance to be net friendly for promotion of cause and fund raising. This provided a micro explanation about Facebook, Twitter, their usage and protocols. On 6 – 7 August, Mr. Anindo Banerjee and Ms Nancy Priya (Praxis, Patna) have conducted a workshop on Effective Documentation that dealt with its importance for transparency, advocacy and a social insight. This was a live interaction around format & medium, contents, process, style, issue, message, reliability with many more under domain of effective documentation. Mr. Prabhunath Sharma has shared the documentation measures NBJK implements at present.
