mh227 December, Amrit Nagar: 996 people suffering from Mental Retardation, Mental Illness and Epilepsy had a chance to get proper medical treatment and medicines in the health camp organized by NBJK with support of RINPAS, Kanke (Ranchi).

There were 54 new patients also who couldn’t contact any psychiatrist earlier for their treatment. All these patients have come from Hazaribag, Koderma, Chatra, Giridih, Dhanbad, Bokaro districts and belong to far-flung villages where superstition and faith healing still prevail commonly. The medical team of RINPAS (Ranchi Institute of Neuro Psychiatry & Allied Sciences) has arrived at NBJK premises in the morning and devoted a full day for such patients.

NBJK workers like Mr. Narsingh Prasad, Mr. Purn Prakash Rana, Mr. Om Prakash Gupta, Mr. Sujit Mishra, Mr. Kamal Pandey, Mrs. Neelam Sharma, Mrs. Pratima Devi, Ms. Shah Jehan, Mrs. Mary Hansda, Mr. Shailesh Kumar, and Mr. Sudip Kumar have organized the people systematically due to crowd and helped them to get treated. Also they received medicines from the counter without any cost and most of the carers have expressed their satisfaction over the treatment by RINPAS.

sports203 December 2016, Hazaribag: More than 250 people with disabilities from Sadar, Katkamsaandi, Katkamdaag, Churchu, Daroo and Ichak blocks of Hazaribag district have gathered inside St. Columba College football ground and celebrated World Disability Day with much fanfare by participating in different sports competitions. The event was organized by NBJK under Disability Rights program with support of AVI-BLF, UK. Mr. Pradeep Prasad (Social Worker) has inaugurated the day and called himself lucky to be present there.

He has blown whistle to start Tricycle race of males that declared Vasudev Bhokta (Udaipur), Balkrishna Prasad (Salgawan) and Md. Shahabuddin (Bonga) for first, second and third positions. During Crutch race, Hemlal murmur (Churchu), Santosh Karmali (Churchu) and Ajay Kumar (Ichak) were winners among men while Maina Kumari (Churchu), Reena Kumari (Sadar) and Rukhsana Khatoon (Ichak) have won in women group. Likewise Pushpa Devi (Okni) and Parvati Kumari (Kanchanpur) got first and second positions in Bucket Ball game. Shahbaz Alam (Pelawal), Ajay Kumar (Udka) and Rohit Kumar (Lotwa) stood first, second and third for the same under men’s category. After Musical Chair for men, Dinesh Hansda (Churchu), Khaaleshwar Paswan (Ichak) and Jitendra Sahu (Sadar) were winners and Sunita Kumari (Churchu), Parvati Kumari (Kanchanpur), Raziya Khatoon (Bonga) had the chance to be on first, second and third place. Also a cricket match between youth PwDs from Sadar and Vishnugadh blocks took place and ended with victory of Sadar block team.

All the winners have been honored with prizes from the Chief Guest on this occasion. WD Day was supported by Rajkumar, Akhilesh, Nagesh, Neha Parveen, Mukesh Rana, Vasudev Thakur, Rupa Kumari, Parvati Kumari, Raziya Khatoon from DPOs namely Viklaang Vikas Jan Kalyan Sangh (Sadar), Satya Viklaang Vikas Trust (Ichak), Ujala Viklaang Vikas Sangh and Adarsh Viklaang Vikas Sangh (Katkamsaandi). NBJK program team has coordinated the event.

avi229 November 2016, Katkamsaandi (Hazaribag): NBJK has launched a vision test campaign at schools in far flung villages  of Hazaribag district under Disability Rights program with support of AVI-BLF, UK. A vision test camp was organized for 118 students at Saraswati High School of Daroo village of Daroo block and 34 were detected with low vision symptom.

Before this, such camps were held at Birsa Saraswati High School, Daand (Katkamsaandi) on 25th, at Primary School, Nagri (Churchu) on 24th, at Project Girls’ High School, Charhi (Churchu) on 23rd and at Banadag High School, Banadag (Katkamsaandi) on 17th of the month. This vision checkup campaign has benefitted 728 school children, 90 have found with low vision problem and referred to LNJP Eye Hospital or its satellite center at Hazaribag for treatment.

At Saraswati High School, Daroo, NBJK program team has organized a quiz competition upon the issue of Disability among 103 students of class X. They were asked related questions and the very objective of community sensitization was fulfilled with the event. Total 103 students have participated in the quiz and Priti Bharti, Vipin Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Amit Kumar and Ranjana Kumari were declared as winners with position first to fifth respectively. The school teachers have appreciated the move as community sensitization towards disability.

hsbc230 November 2016, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): HSBC & Swadesh Foundation, Mumbai supported Residential Rojgar Training Center by NBJK has organized certificate distribution ceremony for 49 trainees of first batch who have completed 2 months skill development training in the trades of Basic Computer Applications, Bed Side Patient Attendant  and Electronics & Hardware (mobile/CFL bulb/charger) Repair.

Md. Khalid and Mr. Taapas Chakrowarty (both social workers) have distributed certificates among the youths. Md. Khalid has suggested them to not make complaint rather be a part of the solution, he said that Taj Mahal was not built in a day and one must keep patience to achieve the goal. Mr. Taapas has described learning as an endless process and one gets recognition by work. Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Treasurer, NBJK) has suggested passing batch trainees to shun inferiority complex and to shine learnt skills. Before this, Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) has asked for suggestions from youths and some of them have suggested about enhanced training duration, sports facility and better daily routine etc. We will entertain such suggestions, Mr. Satish has assured.

Mr. Lalan Saw (Mobilizer) has anchored the ceremony and all the trainees (BCA-19, Mobile Repair-05, BSPA-25) have received certificates. Mr. Kirti Rawat (Placement Officer) has informed about On Job Training, placement or self-employment for 45 trained youths. A team of Mr. Subodh Kumar, Mr. Amar and Mrs. Sandhya Devi has supported the event.

bfw228 November-01 December 2016, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): 4 days residential training held on Outcome & Impact Orientation for small projects by VOs in jharkhand and Bihar under Support to Small Initiatives program by NBJK with support of BFW, Germany. These VOs are working among youths/farmers upon Skill Training and Agriculture Development in the districts like Hazaribag, Koderma, Chatra, Ramgarh, Giridih, Ranchi, Patna, Gaya, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Raxaul, Jamui in Jharkhand and Bihar.

Their Secretaries/competent staffs have developed suvey, planning and reporting format with support of Mr. Prakash Kumar Layak (ASK, Gurgaon), the trainer. Also they have excercised to develop project proposals on the issues like educational upliftment of children, human trafficking and food security to work further in their areas with support of different funding agencies.

Out of 21 trainee organizations, 6 were women led and shown interest to implement child-women welfare programs if gets supported. There were 11 VOs from Jharkhand and 10 from Bihar in the training. Mr. Rajeev Kumar Singh (Program Manager) and Mr. Shankar Rana (Asst. PM) were in the organizing team.

rdhs226 November 2016, Churchu (Hazaribag): Mr. Prakashbhai Shah and his wife Mrs. Surekha Ben have arrived at Roshni Dhruva High School, Churchu. The couple has motivated and supported NBJK to start Roshni Dhruva High School at Churchu and still provides their support to strengthen the school.

They were accompanied by Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) and Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Program Director) in the event organized to welcome them by school management and students. On this occasion, Mr. Prakash Bhai has encouraged the school children to study well and assured for help. Mrs. Surekha Ben has praised the initiative of Roshni Dhruva High School by NBJK in a farflung area like Churchu that ensures an educated future for coming generation.

Mr. Satish Girija has expressed sincere gratitude towards the couple and said about NBJK’s commitment to develop Churchu by programs on education, health and livelihood. He appealed children, teachers and parents to to prefer education as a priority. Mr. Prakash Bhai and Mrs. Surekha Ben have visited under construction room, computer room, smart class etc. at the school and were satisfied to see the progress.

Mr. Dineshwar Singh (Principal, RDHS) has presented Annual Report before the visitors and informed that 95 students have appeared for 10th class board examination and 68 (first div. 12, second div. 40, third div. 16) have passed while ensured 150 new enrollments for class 6 – 9. He has raised school related topics like boundary wall and affiliation with Jharkhand Academic Council. The meeting was concluded after vote of thanks by the principal.

carers224 – 29 November 2016, Puri (Orissa): NBJK program team has participated in strategic review & planning meeting of Indian partners with Carers Worldwide, UK. This was about to review the work, reflecting on the impact, analyzing of strengths & weaknesses and future plan of actions as individual organizations and as a network.

The meeting was started with organizational presentations by NBJK, SACRED and SAMUHA (from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka), with whom Carers Worldwide works among carers in India. Dr. Anil Patil (ED, Carers Worldwide) has facilitated the meeting towards strategic planning and professional development as well as collaborative working. Mr. Derek Hooper (resource person) has focused upon values to make the program as rights based, inclusive, supportive, sustainable, honest, open, brave, positive and equal. He has stressed over awareness and promotion of livelihood among carers that ensures fulfillment of their need and makes caring hassle free.

Mr. Rajeev Kumar Singh (Program Manager, NBJK) has informed about 68 carers processed for livelihood linkage and others already engaged with petty business like tailoring, cow/goat/pig rearing, snacks making & vending etc. We will cover Katkamsaandi and Chouparan blocks of Hazaribag district further and aims to work with 4000 carers in Koderma, Giridih, Nawada, Gaya districts of Jharkhand and Bihar, he said. The meeting has discussed over challenges like fund raising, establishment of Community Caring Centers and instilling the values to run program successfully. NBJK team was comprised by Md. Nayeem (Asst. PM), Mrs. Vimla Rana, Mrs. Pratima Devi, Mr. Kamal Kant Pandey and Mr. Sujit Mishra (all field coordinators).

kpps224 November, Silaunja (Bodhgaya): During the first year of NBJK run Komal Pujan Public School, Silaunja (Bodhgaya), the school management team has worked hard to make it popular among parents and local people. KPPS was inaugurated on 5th January 2016 and started for primary classes (Nursery-Std. V) from April onwards.

Mr. Uma Shankar Kushwaha (Principal) has informed about mobilization campaign, the school has launched in the villages with a commitment as No Fee for First Month which impressed most of the parents interested to know about their choice. During field visit before launching this new initiative, some finding like sorry state of government schools in Bodhgaya block of Gaya district, lack of quality private schools, high fee structure of such existing schools and geographical constraints for Bodhgaya based private schools have motivated the management to carry on the project of KPPS.

Currently the school caters more than 221 children from 21 villages around within radius of 12 km. Mr. Kushwaha said about various features adopted by KPPS like friendly environment for children, rich infrastructure (spacious classroom, computer supported smart classes), good teachers, comfortable & safe transportation, periodical monitoring of teachers & students, extra-curricular activities/sports etc. will make the school as a natural destination for children in the area.

avi218 November, Churchu (Hazaribag): An advocacy meeting was held in the Block Office auditorium at Churchu block headquarters under Disability Rights program by NBJK with support of AVI-BLF, UK. Mr. Sushil Kumar Khakha (Block Development Officer, Churchu) has inaugurated the function and stressed upon the rights of People with Disability to be realized through their association with Government schemes. He said about employment provisions for PwDs under national employment guarantee scheme and asked NBJK staffs to provide names and addresses of enlisted PwDs surveyed by them in the block. Also the BDO has assured for government support to make aids & appliances available to the PwDs and convergence of different welfare programs in interest of challenged people.

Mrs. Sujata Prasad (Program Manager) has thanked the BDO for such encouraging words and expected for some ground work to be done with support of all sections of the society for self-reliance of PwDs. During the meeting, a memorandum from Ujala Viklang Vikas Sangh, Churchu (a local DPO) was submitted to the Block Development Officer and demanded for implementation of Government PwDs Policy-2012, 3% budget allocation for PwDs in all development schemes, Disability check up & certification facility, Single Window system, Vocational training, Supportive devices and Appointment of Divyang Mitras (Friends of PwDs) at block headquarters.

The advocacy meeting was graced by the presence of Mrs. Anukshee Devi (Pramukh), Mrs. Agneshia Sandi Purti (Member, District Council), Dr. (Mrs.) Punam Ekka (Block Health Officer), Mr. Amin Oraon (Police Station In-charge) and all have supported the move to empower PwDs of Churchu block. The meeting was anchored by Mr. Annu Kumar (District Coordinator) and the program team of Mr. Om Prakash Gupta, Mr. Narsingh Ram, Mrs. Vindu Devi, Mr. Sudeep, Mr. Shailesh, Mr. Anshuman and Mr. Ravikant Rana has made this a success.

childline214-20 November, Chouparan: Childline India foundation, Mumbai supported and NBJK run Childline Sub-center, Chouparan has launched a campaign Childline Se Dosti or Friendship with Childline at different public places of Chouparan and nearby places. Childline team members have contacted people; collected their signatures in favor of Child Rights, distributed informative handbills and briefed them about the program.  Also they clasped designer wristbands with message about this campaign.

On 14th at LNJP Eye Hospital, Bahera (Chouparan), many eye patients & carers, doctors & hospital staffs were part of this campaign. Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Program Director, Eye Care) has graced the occasion and supported this initiative for a safe childhood. On 15th, Childline team has contacted Auto drivers at Chatra Auto Stand, Chouparan. They were facilitated towards rights of children and Childline1098. Handbills and wristbands were distributed among auto drivers and passengers. Childline Se Dosti campaign was held at Barhi block & Sub-divisional hospital on 16th and many government officers like BDO, CO, CDPO, doctors and police inspector as well as their visitors have been contacted over the issue of Child Rights. On 17th, Childline team has reached at Orphanage School, Barhi, met children & teachers and talked about this friendship campaign.

Administrative offices and officers of Chouparan block were contacted on 18th November under the campaign while children of Government Primary School, Bedhnabara (Chouparan) have received Childline team, heard the message carefully and organized a cultural program to welcome the initiative on 19th. Childline Se Dosti campaign ended on 20th November at Kendua More Auto Stand, Chouparan, where common people and transporters have been sensitized upon Child Rights and about use of Childline1098. Mr. Narayan Rajak, Mrs. Maya Mishra, Mrs. Poonam Devi and Mr. Navratan Pandey have comprised the team and Mr. Veerendra Sinha has led them for campaign.
