13 June 2022, Potka (East Singhbhum): Under joint auspices of District Lok Samiti, NBJK & Yuva Jagriti Evang Swawlamban Sangh and with support of Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, one day Anti Alcohol Convention held at the auditorium of Potka Panchayat Bhawan.

Gandhian thinker & president of National Lok Samiti Mr. Girija Satish was keynote speaker of this event. He termed liquor as a family, social & financial problem which creates numerous occasions of family turmoil, disease, financial crisis, crime, road accident every year. He referred about article 47 & 51 of Indian constitution that directs state to ban alcohol. We shouldn’t make comparison with abroad where climate, family-social system are quite different, he mentioned. Mr. Girija Satish put example of Bihar where women have pressurized the state Government for prohibition despite a myth of revenue loss. He said about channelizing of women’s anger against alcohol with right direction as to send strong message for political parties that without liquor prohibition they can’t win elections. He discussed about JP the legendary mass leader and his concept of Total Revolution which calls for moral uplift in society.

Earlier the local organizers have honoured Mr. Girija Satish with an Angawastram and he lit the lamp as well as offered flowers to a photograph of JP.

During the convention, Mr. Suraj Mandal (Member, Jila Parishad) expressed his full support to this anti-liquor campaign and assured for co-operation. Mr. Paanav Jee (local Mukhiya) said about his previous efforts for prohibition and appealed people to come forward. Ms. Vaasanti Sardar (social activist) talked about hindrances on way to prohibition and requested people including administration to support the mission. Strong women can contribute a lot to make an effective law against liquor across India, Mrs. Chaamee Jee (President Awardee on Women Empowerment) pointed out while Mr. Angoora Mahto (Gandhi Ashram, Simla) demanded for liquor ban immediately keeping view of trouble for women & children. Mr. K. G. Azad (National Coordinator, Lok Samiti) has informed about a nationwide campaign with likeminded organizations to be launched against alcohol. Mr. Shankar Rana (Coordinator, Jharkhand State Lok Samiti) stressed upon constant advocacy for success.

Mr. Siddheshwar Sardar chaired the convention and suggested for initiative to get rid of liquor. Mr. Rajesh Singh Deo has conducted dais and opined that liquor prohibition is essential to eradicate social evils like women atrocity, superstition & others.

More than 300 persons, mostly women from Potka and nearby villages have participated in this anti-liquor convention and conveyed their full support.
