18 February 2022, Motihari (East Champaran), Bihar: Lok Samiti, a non-political organization founded by Loknayak JP has denounced sad incidents of Mahatma Gandhi’s statues breaking in Champaran where Gandhi Jee initiated his peaceful resistance against British rule in India.

Recently in the night of 13 February at Charkha Park of Motihari, district town of East Champaran; a statue of Gandhiji has been broken. Local unit of Lok Samiti with some other like-minded groups, protested the occurrence through a silent fast at the park on 15 February. Later Mr. Ray Sundar Dev Sharma (President, District Lok Samiti, East Champaran) slammed this unfortunate happening and demanded proper security of the place. Also he questioned about maintenance of and substandard materials used in the statue. Another heartbreaking incident took place at Turkaulia, about 12 km south-west from Motihari where some anti-social elements have insulted Gandhi’s statue, hung wrappers of liquor bottles around its neck and discolored the face.

Mr. Kaushal Ganesh Azad (National Co-ordinator, Lok Samiti) deplored the very trend of offending Mahatma Gandhi as he can’t be defeated ideologically. Mr. Girija Satish (President, National Lok Samiti) condemned the depressing episodes of Motihari, the place attached historically with Father of the Nation. He insisted for a full proved policy by the Government for preservation of such places with constant safety and honour to statues of great persons.
