15 March 2021, Ranchi: Today a convention upon Freedom from Intoxicants held at NBJK-Ranchi under joint auspices of Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, Jagriti Socio Economic Empowerment Services and Ranchi District Lok Samiti.

Mr. Girija Satish (President, National Lok Samiti) was the keynote speaker who said that the very issue of liquor or other intoxicants is related to development and execution of a strict liquor prohibition law will facilitate development in our family, society and state obviously. After liquor ban in Bihar, the number of foreigner tourists has been increased there and in western countries also one can’t drive vehicles after taking alcohol, but this ruined their social institutions like family or marriage. We don’t want such luxurious tendency in India and must reject liquor to ensure harmony around with knowledge of the art of living, Mr. Girija Saish pointed out. He suggested the people to look into the lives of great persons from different faiths, to become morally strong and beware of rumors like strength from liquor. The people, who take liquor may be rich, may be leaders or actors but they couldn’t be our ideal, he declared and invoked women audience to support the campaign. Mr. Girija Satish asked Jharkhand Govt. for anti-liquor law to check the evils like rape, torture, superstition, accident and spoiling of young generation.

From women SHGs, Mrs. Sunita Shrivastava (President, Women SHG) has thrown light over the loss by intoxicants, Mrs. Vinita Bhagat said about lost respect of drunkards, Mrs. Meena Devi stressed upon proper drafting as well as execution of any such law while Mrs. Supriya Singh was concerned about social acceptance of liquor. Ms Sonalika (Advocate) said about young girls as victims of addiction and about need of values added education system.

On this occasion, Mr. Sachchidanand (General Secretary, Jharkhand State Lok Samiti) discussed about people’s support on the issue and expected for legal initiative from the state government. Mr. Shailendra Mishra (Ex-president, Ranchi District Lok Samiti) has presided the program and mentioned about three villages near Ormanjhi where villagers have boycotted liquor and won awards too.     Mr. Akhtar Hussain (Social Worker) has appreciated women’s resistance to liquor in different districts of Jharkhand. Mr. Shankar Rana (Coordinator, JSLS) anchored the proceeding, talked about Lok Samiti’s stand against intoxicants and got people’s consent over a memorandum to the Chief Minister. The convention was concluded with vote of thanks from Md. Dilashad Azmal (JSEES).
