District Level #MediaWorkshop on #ChildRights and Protection @Plan_India @PlanGlobal

08 June 2019, Hazaribag: Under Plan International supported programme of Child Centred Community Development at Churchu block of Hazaribag district, a district level media workshop was held at Hotel Canary Inn, Hazaribag. After introduction and welcome address by Mr. Ranjan Kumar (Programme Manager, CCCD), the very theme of Child Rights and their realization was discussed by Mr. Tribhuwan Sharma (Resource Person).

He said that the role of media is quite important to protect child rights and our journalists-reporters should be aware of the relevant laws like Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO with others. In the context of children’s rights of survival, development, protection and participation, we must ensure that they shouldn’t face any pressure, physical or mental atrocity, financial harassment, health problem or domestic violence, he pointed out. Mr. Sharma explained about vulnerable groups of children those become victim of any atrocity easily and compelled to tolerate violation of their rights by adults. He requested media persons to consider about privacy and dignity of the child while reporting and to take cognizance of his/her best interest in a child friendly manner with focus upon final rehabilitation.

As a special invitee in the workshop, Mr. Sanjay Kumar (District Child Protection Officer, Hazaribag) has informed about fully functional Child Protection Unit in the district with bodies like Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board and with facility of separate Shelter Homes for boys & girls in the district. On behalf of the district administration, he assured for all support to protection of child rights and appreciated the initiative of civil society with media for a noble cause. More than two dozens journalists from print-electronic media have participated in the workshop and made this live by sharing of experiences & queries related to child rights protection.
