04 June 2019, Dumka: Under the programme of Poverty Reduction and Community Based Inclusive Development of PwDs with support of CBM-Bangalore & DFAT-Australia, the people with disabilities have been facilitated to vote on 19th May 2019 for Dumka Lok Sabha Constituency during Indian general election 2019. The programme team has arranged bouquets to honour them and accompanied these unusual voters to polling booths. There were 338 PwDs voters in Kathikund block and 300 have voted on the day. Likewise in Jarmundi block, 428 out of 558 such voters have used their franchise.
It’s significant that NBJK has contributed to the pre-election advocacy campaign of the district administration to make PwDs ready to vote. Also the district administration has deputed additional staffs to support these voters and arranged vehicles for their transportation.
This initiative enabled our beneficiaries to come forward and to participate in the democratic process important for them equally; Mr. Amrit Paswan (Programme Manager, NBJK) pointed out. Mr. Mukesh Kumar (District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Dumka) has announced that 98% of PwDs voters could use their voting right on the polling day.
