21-22 February 2019, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): Under the Carers Promotion programme with support of Carers Worldwide-UK, NBJK has identified 1413 people taking care of their family members suffering from disability, mental illness and old age problems. These carers were found in Sadar, Katkamsandi, Katkamdag, Daroo, Ichak , Chauparan blocks of Hazaribag district. NBJK promoted their 83 SHGs with cumulative saving as around Rs. 10 lakh and provided financial support woth Rs. 7 lakh to 110 carers to link them with different income generation activities during last year.
Now the carers have been motivated to form an NGO namely Pragati Carers Sewa Sansthan under Society Registration Act and NBJK organized a training programme for it’s office bearers including executive committee members. This two days training was focused upon the topics like carers’ problem with explanation, their role & responsibility, recognition by the government, data collection, people’s association and organizational expansion. On behalf of Pragati Carers, Mrs. Sumitra Devi (President), Mr. Vijay Paswan (Secretary), Anita Devi (Treasurer) and executive committee members have participated in the training. They were of the view that the government should make a plan to support carers.
As the facilitator, Mr. Rahul Mehta (Rehab. Expert) has contributed to the training while Mr. Natesh and Mr. Madan have represented Carers Worldwide for the activity. They said that in many countries, the very issue of carers got attention of civil society as well as of the governments and we will propose to form a state level forum by carers to riase their concerns publicly. Mr. Rajeev Kr. Singh (Programme Manager, NBJK) outlined about the programme that may be expanded in other blocks of Hazaribag district with the objective to empower carers in service of their family members despite various constraints. The programme field workers like Mrs. Vimla Rana, Mrs. Pratima Devi, Mrs. Neelam Sharma, Sujit, Mr. Kamal Kant and Mr. Navaratna Pandey too have participated in the training.
