07 March 2023, Giridih-Jamui-Deoghar: Vimla Ramkrishna Bajaj Eye Hospital-Deoghar, the very fourth unit of LNJP Eye Hospital by NBJK after Hazaribagh, Gaya and Dumka, is performing well in eradication of avoidable blindness.
The medical teams from its Vision Centre at Bengabad (Giridih) with support of Sightsavers and the base hospital are organizing Free Eye Screening Camps in villages of Giridih and Jamui districts. They identify Cataract patients and arrange their transportation, food, surgery, medicines, black glasses, post-surgery follow up services etc at VRBEH-Deoghar and bring them back to their places after vision restoration. The intervention is being sponsored by Naraindas Morbai Budhrani Trust and SBI Foundation.
Within the period of 24 Feb-06 March 2023, VRBEH has conducted such 12 camps at Khadi Gram Shram Bharti, Charia Middle School at Jamui, Bandarmara Middle School, Sono (Jamui), Jaridih, Alodih, Bajito, Gurha, Andharkola villages of Birni, Jamua, Sadar blocks and Vision Centre at Bengabad block of Giridih district.
Total 383 persons turned up to this Eye Checkup initiative and 192 have been detected with Cataract with 29 as suffering from Refractive Error and 04 were with Pterygium. The medical team has provided required medicines to 35 patients during these screening camps. VRBEH has restored eyesight to all Cataract ridden patients.
Most of the patients belong to backward remote areas with absence of any vision care service and poverty stricken ignorant people were not aware of their eye health.
