Rich Tribute to Late #KuldeepNayar

28 August 2018, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): Hazaribag District Unit of Lok Samiti and NBJK have organized a condolence meeting after demise of Mr. Kuldeep Nayar on 23 August in Delhi. The meeting was attended by many social workers, journalists, activists and intellectuals. They offered flowers, garlanded the photo of late Nayar Jee and observed 2 minutes silence to pay homage to the departed soul.

Mr. Girija Satish (President, National Lok Samiti) described him as the man with multilateral talent who worked efficiently as a journalist-writer, peace-human rights activist, a diplomat and an MP (Rajya Sabha member) too. Mr. Girija recalled Late Nayar for his favour to truth, justice and commitment to strengthen non-political organizations under banner of Sampoorna Kranti Manch during 1984 and onwards. Mr. Nayar has played key role in organizing the Bicycle Rally from Patna to Delhi by Lok Samiti in 1987 for Right to Work and he was a member of the delegation met Mr. R. Venkataraman, the President of India at that time, he remembered. Mr. Girija shared the memoirs that how Mr. Kuldeep Nayar participated in several functions of Intercaste-Interreligion Marriages on the platform of Antarjateeya Antardharmik Vivaah Manch/Manav Jodo Abhiyan by Lok Samiti and his contribution to a class room construction at NBJK run Amoli Apurva High School, Maangarh from MP fund. He paid a rich tribute to the deceased on behalf of the Lok Samiti-NBJK family.

The condolence meeting was presided by Mr. Swaroop Chand Jain (Advocate & Partaker of ’74 movement), who termed the incident as a severe loss to Indian democracy. Mr. Arvind Jha (Advocate-cum-activist) has praised the role of Mr. Nayar in this grand world theater while Dr. Vishwanath Azad (Social Worker) identified him as a source of inspiration for social workers. Dr. Mrs. Kiran Rana (Academician) appreciated Mr. Nayar for his pro-people approach and Mr. Umesh Pratap (Journalist) portraited him as a person against current trend who wished to change the system. Mr. Filman Bakhla (Social Activist) has applauded Mr. Nayar’s priceless role for strengthening of our nation and society. Mr. Arjun Yadav (’74 movement contributor) expressed his grief as ending of an era and a voice for unvoiced people.

Also Messrs Awdhesh Pandey, Kaushal Ganesh Azad, Ashok Yadav, Prabhu Nath Sharma, Narendra Mahto, Rita Sinha and others have paid honor to late Kuldeep Nayar.

#RemedialCoachingCentres’ Girls Won Prizes @hdbfsl

18 August 2018, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): With support of HDB Financial Services Ltd., Mumbai, NBJK run Remedial Coaching Centres (RCCs) of Sadar & Churchu blocks have organized a competition in quiz, essay, drawing & spelling test for girl children of 8th, 9th & 10th classes. The program was participated by 45 students from 15 RCCs at Churchu, Rola, Lalpur, Demotaand, Daroo, Jhumra, Jagdishpur, Meru, Sarauni Kala, Mandai Khurd, Babhanwai, Amrit Nagar, Silwar Kala, Baihri & Nagwaan villages.

After showing abilities by the contributors, the judges have declared Ms Shaalu Kumari (Babhanwai), Ms Khushee Rani (Amrit Nagar) and Ms Komal Kumari (Amrit Nagar) as winners on first, second & third positions. These children have appreciated the very idea of RCC for girl children and asked for it’s initiation in every village to promote girls’ education. Apart from them, other girls too have expressed their views upon the event and welcomed this as a booster for confidence building.

On this occasion, Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Treasurer, NBJK) conferred prizes among the winners and said that such competitions provide an interesting academic environment and concerned experiences work in future to click competitive examinations. All participants of this competition were given consolation prizes.

The block coordinators and teachers like Messrs Vikram Kumar, Pintu Kumar Dangi, Manoj Bihari, Jawed Hussain, Sanjay Mahto, Purandar Kumar, Saurabh Suman, Nisha Kumari and Pranav Kumar have worked hard to organize the competition.

#72ndIndependenceDay at #NBJK

15 August 20118, Hazaribag: 72nd Independence Day of the nation was celebrated gracefully at the coordination office of NBJK. Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) has hoisted the national flag at 8 a. m. sharp in the office premises. In his address to the staffs and community people, he correlated independence with democracy and stressed upon democratic values enshrined by our constitution. He expressed deep concern over incidents of mob linching, mass suicide and said that such tragedies are against humanity, law and science as well as remind us for right interpretation of religions also. Mr. Girija has called to develop a rational, compassionate thinking in people’s mind to get rid of superstitions and recalled Mahopnishad that says about the whole world as one family. Our system must be people-centric and most of us need proper education to dilute divisive forces, NBJK President voiced. He appealed the people to be responsible.

Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) has conveyed best wishes to all and said that NBJK has been working with common people for their independence from illiteracy, poverty, diseases and the delight of of an independent nation should reach to all citizens. He suggested NBJK workers to be conscious about their identity among people and to put more efforts in their service. Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Treasurer, NBJK) congratulated the people on this occasion and remembered the martyrs who sacrificed everything to liberate our nation. He found the day as most energizing one and differentiated independence from freakishness. To maintain and improve this independence is like a challenge to be accepted, he opined. Mr. Pravesh Singh (Asst. Finance Manager, NBJK) was anchoring the function ended with patriotic slogans. The Independence Day was celebrated in branch offices & organization run schools also with much fanfare.

FCC & DLSA Organized #LegalAwareness Camp for #Women&Children @MinistryWCD

11 August 2018, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): With support of CSWB, New Delhi & JSSWB, Ranchi, NBJK run Family Counselling Centre has organized a legal awareness camp for Women & their Children in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Hazaribag. DLSA team leaders Bhaiya Mukesh Kumar and Md. Moazzam (Advocates) have introduced the program before women participants invited by FCC. They elaborated about Foster Care laws, their scope and application. Mr. Saurabh Anshu (Advocate) has informed that twin-born children will be given to the same family and any adoption requires fulfilment of legal procedure after consultation with District Child Welfare Committee. These conditions are set to provide protection of such adopted children and to make them responsible citizens too, he opined.

Md. Moazzam has articulated about compensation scheme for women victims/survivors of sexual assaults/other crimes-2018, equal rights for all before the law and said that our constitution has discarded untouchability as well as provides ample space for citizens’ security from anti-social elements. Bhaiya Mukesh declared that the door of DLSA is always open for the people in need of legal support to get justice and safety measures for women-children are our top priority. He assured that DLSA will initiate in such cases and appealed the audience to be sensitive towards orphan, labourer or trafficked children as we all are responsible to make a safe society. Ms Kiran Kumari (law student) has focused upon girls’ education, their self-reliance and parent-child dialogue while Ms Neha Anzum (law student) has requested the women to send their children to school positively as this promotes socialization.

The DLSA team was comprised by Messrs Kunal Raj, Manoj Kumar Rana, Sanjay Kumar, Chhatthu Ram (all para-leagal volunteers)  and more than 70 women participants from Amrit Nagar, Oriya, Baihri, Sakhiya, Nutan Nagar have attended the program. Mrs. Meera Gupta (Counsellor, FCC) has thanked DLSA members and village women to make the leagal awareness camp a success.

What a Supporter Says #VictoriaCarluccio

31 July 2018, Hazaribag: Ms Victoria Carluccio is doing a master’s at School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in Labour and Development Studies and working at TripAdvisor, in advertising department. She is spending two months in  India from 10^th of July to early September. In the first stage of her trip,she stayed at NBJK in Bihar and Jharkhand as an Action Village India (U. K.) team member working with completion of the Lottery Fund aided Disability Rights project. More precisely, documenting some cases studies from the different projects supported by AVI (microcredit for PwDs, girls education project).

Victoria first heard of AVI in July 2017, when she received an email from her university,who was promoting AVI’s work. She says that most students are interested in rural India and a wide range of initiatives carried out by NGOs working with vulnerable people in rural areas.

She writes, “I think NBJK does an amazing work, with more than 40 years of experience. I was surprised by the diversity of the activities and groups NBJK reaches through its work: education, microfinance support, promotion and support of disability rights among other. I would say that their mission of “put the last first” is honoured on a daily basis…”

During the field visits, she met many people facing different problems and was able to understand how the support they received from NBJK has helped them to overcome difficulties, like developing new skills that will enable them to improve their livelihoods, receiving therapy from the field workers and become independent. She saw the highly committed staff tackling obstacles in order to achieve their goals, by engaging with the different communities and gaininig their trust.

She assures to promote NBJK work.

#OrientationTraining for #RemedialCoachingCentres’Teachers @hdbfsl

28 July 2018, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): One day Orientation & training camp was organized for the teachers of Remedial Coaching Centres (RCCs) running in 30 villages of Sadar and Churchu blocks under Hazaribag district. These RCCs are being supported by HDB Financial Services, Mumbai.

In the begining of this orientation program, Mr. Prabhu Nath Sharma (Treasurer, NBJK) has welcomed all the participants  and said that our teachers play important role to make school education attractive and a positive environment ensures high level of academic achievement. He stressed upon students’ involvement and teacher-parent dialogue also.

Its noteworthy that these RCCs provide extra tuition classes to about 1000 girl students of class 8, 9 & 10 for English, Mathematics and Science free of cost. During the orientation training, participant teachers have shared simple teaching methodologies they developed out of their experience. They elaborated about less time consuming and more interesting techniques for teaching-learning process. Many teachers like Messrs Shubhankar Mishra, Ganesh Vishwakarma, Sanjay Mahto, Chanda Kumari, Om Prakash Sahoo, Vikram Kumar, Kriti Tiwary have come over the dais and shared their skills with others.

At end of the session, teaching-learning materials were distributed for each Remedial Coaching Centres. Mr. Vinay Kumar Bhatta (Documentation, NBJK) has delivered vote of thanks for all the teachers and requested them to deal with their students carefully as adolescence itself is the age of storm & stress.

Subcommittee Meeting of #FamilyCounsellingCentre @MinistryWCD

27 July 2018, Hazaribag: With support of Jharkhand State Social Welfare Board, Ranchi and Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi, NBJK run Family Counselling Centre (FCC) has called its Subcommittee meeting at the premises of Women’s Police Station, Hazaribag. The meeting helds quarterly and this was presided over by Mrs. Emeltina Ekka (Officer in-charge).

The members have suggested to make proper enquiry in the cases come to FCC. They were in favour of dialogue with family members, next door neighbors and relatives of both the parties to draw about facts keeping view of a sustainable reconciliation process. Mrs. Ekka has offered for joint efforts for such initiatives if required for any dispute settlement. Mrs. Meera Gupta (Counsellor, FCC) has tabled the quarterly report of Family Counselling Centre before honorable members that shown the registration of total 39 cases during the period of May – July 2018.

These cases are clubbed as Dispute with Son & Daughter-in-law (03 nos.), Alcohol born domestic violence (06 nos.), Marital dispute (21 nos.), New marriage by husband (02 nos.), Land dispute (03 nos.) and Other family disputes (04 nos.). Mrs. Gupta has informed about compromise between the plaintiffs and defendants in 11 cases due to timely intervention by Family Counselling Centre.

The Subcommittee members present in the meeting were Ms Veena Sethi (advocate), Mrs. Sheela Kumari (social worker), Mr. Arvind Jha (advocate), Mrs. Usha Devi, Ms Annie Thomas, Mrs. Seema, Mr. Mukesh, Mrs. Saraswati and Mr. Sanjay Kumar (counsellor, FCC).

#DisabilityRights Project Closing Ceremony and Farewell to Staffs @ActionVillageIn @BigLotteryFund

14 July 2018, Hazaribag: Action Village India & Big Lottery Fund, U. K. supported ptoject of Disability Rights in Bihar & Jharkhand (April 2015 – July 2018) got a closing ceremony at the coordination office, Amrit Nagar. This was attended by entire project team scattered in Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih, Gaya and Nawada districts of both the staes.

The program was like a big seminar to discuss their work experience, ground realities, people’s participation and overall perception from the field. Mr. Ivan Nutbrown (Project Manager, AVI), Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK), Mr. Rahul Mehta (Rehab. Expert, Ranchi) and Mrs. Sujata Prasad (Project Manager, NBJK) had dialogue with staffs of all positions. Mr. Rahul Mehta has shared main findings of the evaluation report, he prepared for the project.

In this separating event, Mr. Girija Satish has praised the team and its cotribution to ensure rights of PwDs in villages. He assured for contact and support for the persons associated with the project. Mr. Ivan Nutbrown said he feels sorry about closure of this project as per the agreement with BLF which shifts its work in other countries now. This is the last project for me also as I retired from AVI, he informed. He rated the target achievement as 75% overall and valued the delivery by project team. After each district team’s presentation, they were honored with token gifts also.

Disability Rights project was implemented across 2274 villages with 32,366 identified PwDs and set many milestones in terms of their self-reliance, social inclusion, representation in decision making bodies, influence & empowerment, interpersonal relation, control over life & economic well being etc.

18 June 2018, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribag): Distribution of Assistive Devices among PwDs is going on under the program on Rights of PwDs in Jharkhand & Bihar. In Hazaribag, 33 People with Disabilities have received Wheelchairs from Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) who praised AVI-BLF, UK for such support and encouraged the recipients to use Wheelchairs & other supportive instruments in their daily lives.

Total 230 People with Disabilities have been identified in Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih, Gaya, Nawada districts to get specific aids & appliances as Tricycle, Wheelchair, Callipers, Cane Stick, Smart Cane Stick and Walker according to their needs, Mrs. Sujata Prasad (State Program Manager) has informed. She provided a summary of the distribution plan for each district as 25 Tricycles, 33 Wheelchairs, 04 pairs of Callipers, 03 Cane Sticks, 02 Smart Cane Sticks and 01 Walker for Hazaribag along with 08 Tricycles, 03 Wheelchairs and 01 pair of Callipers in Koderma as well as 11 Tricycles, 23 Wheelchairs, 02 pairs of Calliprs, 04 Cane Sticks, 02 Smart Cane Sticks and 10 Walkers for Giridih. We target to provide 47 Tricycles and 01 Wheelchair in Gaya while 39 Tricycles, 07 wheelchairs, 03 pairs of Callipers and 01 Smart Cane Stick are marked for Nawada district, Mrs. Sujata has briefed.

These assistive devices have been purchased from ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India), Kanpur and now reached to most of the beneficiaries through device distribution camps being organized at block level in every program district.
