26 May, Hazaribag: Family Counseling Center (FCC), the program run by NBJK with support of Central and Jharkhand State Social Welfare Board works for strong family bond since 1993. It stands with women and children in time of crisis and looks for amicable resolution that has saved more than 1500 families in the district. The very case of marital dispute between Rani Devi (wife) and Satish Sharma (husband) has been solved today under the program and family members from both sides have appeared before our Counselors.
Mrs. Meera Gupta (Head Counselor) and Mr. Sanjay Kumar (Counselor) have talked to them separately and together to find out the way out during a number of sessions held on before. It was a typical case of conflicts around ego, generation gap and hegemony among members of a joint family where people have expectations from each other and a proper way of communication matters definitely, especially when you deal with elders. Rani Devi belongs to village-Mandai, Hazaribag and after marriage, she settled to her In-laws place at the locality called River side, Patratu in Ramgarh district. Her mother-in-law helped her to get a job to run an Aanganwadi Center there. About 8 years ago, Rani and Satish were married and blessed with two children. There are two younger brothers of Satish, who work in other cities but their wives live with Rani and rest of the family. These brothers earn more than Satish (who works in a shop) and help their parents frequently.
Ever since Rani became a working lady, they seek for her financial support to the family and of course her mother-in-law expects more gentleness in her behavior as she cared for her. Our counselors have listened to all and facilitated them to hold each other’s hand for their family and old aged parents.

Mrs. Sujata Prasad (Program Manager) has initiated the training and said that despite various laws and welfare schemes in interest of PwDs, people find it difficult to access due to lack of proper information. She instructed all trainee staffs to facilitate PwDs and to make them aware of such developments as they are rightful to get concerned benefits. The program manager asked for knowledge and information dissemination among these less privileged people & their care givers live in remote villages.
The training was started with causes, types, preventive measures for disability and covered PwDs Act 1995, National Trust Act, Rehabilitation Council of India, Right to Education/Information, National Policy of PwDs, Provision for Aids & Appliances, Schemes of Welfare Department, District Level Resources, Formation of Disabled People Organizations (DPOs) etc.
There were 55 staffs including District Program Coordinators like Mr. Vinod Rana (Koderma), Mr. Annu Kumar (Giridih), Mr. Shankar Prasad Mehta (Gaya), Mr. Shambhu Gupta (Nawada), Block Coordinators and all Field Workers those participated in this residential training.

RINPAS has sent the team of doctors and support staffs for this outreach camp like every month which is crucial for more than 850 people suffering from different psychotic and neurotic disorders e.g. bipolar, paranoia, insomnia, amnesia, stress, depression, anxiety, epilepsy, schizophrenia, substance abuse etc.
A crowd of carers and patients from not only Hazaribag but other neighboring districts namely Koderma, Chatra, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad or even from border districts of Bihar have come here for treatment. Mr. Guneshwar Rana (village-Churchu, panchayat-Nagwan, block-Hazaribag Sadar) confirms about his successful treatment at the camp as he was a victim of personality disorder but proper medication and his caring wife Mrs. Asha Devi have supported him to defy such deep-rooted crisis. Now he teaches Maths in a private school at his own village.
Its worth mentioning that May 24th is World Schizophrenia Day which reminds us of all the pains suffered and emotional turmoil being felt by such patients or their care givers because of this complicated disease with the fact that only 20 to 30 percent of all schizophrenia patients are able to lead somewhat normal life. Let’s all become sensitive to this disease and help people to come out of it. NBJK appeals for public awareness and to reorganize our school syllabus where mental disorders are left uncovered and untouched widely.
