10 November 2017, Dumka: Mr. Mukesh Kumar (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Dumka, has inaugurated the new ward of LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital. He was accompanied by Mr. Shashi Ranjan (IAS), Deputy Development Commissioner of Dumka also in the inaugural function. Now the eye hospital is capacitated with total 50 beds. Mr. Mukesh Kumar, DC has praised NBJK to run a modern eye hospital at a tribal populated small place like Dumka. Phaco surgery for Cataract patients, hygiene maintenance, adequate infrastructure and free service to poor people are the features make LNJPEH appreciable indeed, the DC opined during his brief address.

In the beginning, Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) welcomed all the guests present in the ceremony and introduced about NBJK’s initiatives for change in people’s lives through various programs like Rights to People with Disabilities, Watershed, Vocational Training, Eye Hospital and many more since the year 1971. This new ward will serve eye patients well in winter season and villagers / their carers from remote areas can stay here safely, he added. Mr. Girija has informed about facilities like canteen, dining hall and doctors’ residence with LNJPEH now to upgrade its services.

Mr. Anand Abhinav (Program Director, NBJK) has recalled about the journey of LNJPEH that started with 10 beds, reached to 50 beds now and expanded in terms of achievements also. We could restore eye sight of more than 2700 cataract patients by their eye surgery free of cost last year, he pointed out.

The inaugural function was graced by Mr. Nirad Bag (State Program Officer, CBM-Banglore), Mr. Saben & Ms Eireen (CBM, Australia), Md. Sharif (President, District Chamber of Commerce, Dumka) and community people. NBJK team comprised of Messrs Neeraj Raman, Md. Ezaz, Santosh Gautam and others have organized the function successfully.

12 October 2017, Chouparan/Dumka: LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital (Chouparan & Dumka units) has observed World Sight Day with enthusiasm and organized mass awareness as well as eye care activities for people. At LNJPEH, Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag), a workshop with rural health workers (Sahiyas) upon early eye care was inaugurated by Mr. Kumar Saurabh (Manager, Aditya Birla Financial Services-Hazaribag) in presence of Dr. Yogendra Singh (Medical Officer, PHC-Chouparan), Mr. Narendra Singh (Mukhiya, Bahera Panchayat), Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK), Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Program Director, NBJK), Mr. Tripan Das (Hospital Administrator), Mr. Karunanidhi (In-charge, Vision Centers-LNJPEH) and others. Mr. Saurabh has praised LNJPEH for focus upon community eye care and cost effective services. We have celebrated the day with vision restoration for 50 people through cataract operation including spectacles, medicines free of cost, Mr. Gandharv Gaurav updated. Mr. Tripan Das has briefed that LNJPEH has conducted 66 village camps, 17333 OPD, offered treatment for around 2500 people with Cataract, Glaucoma, Retina and dispensed more than 3500 power glasses during April-September 2017. There were 75 Sahiya participants in the workshop and Dr. Alok has oriented them towards preventive-curative measures for eye care.

At Dumka, the hospital has launched an awareness campaign from 9 to 12 October and 419 people (from Dumka, Devghar, Pakur, Jamtara and Godda districts) have availed treatment here. Also 56 cataract patients got operated by Dr. Mohan Lal and Dr. Dheeraj during the period. On 11th, LNJPEH Dumka remembered Loknayak JP on his birth anniversary and Mr. Anand Abhinav (Program Director) has called him as a source of motivation for nation building. He said that right from its initiation in the year 2008, Loknayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital, Dumka has provided proper treatment to 57,792 eye patients and restored vision to 12,883 cataract suffering people. The campaign team was comprised of Messrs Sudarshan Pandey, Anirvan Panda, Himanshu Kumar, Santosh Gautam, Ezaz Alam, Sitaram Yadav and others.

 

07 September 2017, Bogodar: Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Eye Hospital, Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag) has started a Vision / Eye Checkup Center at Bagodar, an important township of Giridih district situated at its border adjacent to Hazaribag district in Jharkhand. Bagodar is the block with a population of 2,36,482 in 138 villages of 46 village panchayats under Giridih district but lack any eye care facility. Since many people from this area come at LNJP Eye Hospital, Chouparan (about 70 km) for eye treatment, it was decided to open a Vision Center at Bagodar to cater people in need of eye care services.

Dr. Kuntal Kumar (In-charge Medical Officer, Community Health Center-Bagodar) has inaugurated the Vision Center by LNJP Eye Hospital here and described this as a boon for local people suffering from various eye problems. Its significant that the Vision Center will provide a complete, computerized eye checkup at a nominal charge of Rs. 50 only and people can avail power glasses of new designs at economy prices.

Mr. Pankaj Kumar (Ophthalmic Assistant) will be available at this Vision Center and severe eye patients of Glaucoma, Retina, Cataract etc. will be reffered to base hospital, Mr. Tripan Das (Administrator, LNJPEH) has informed during the press conference held on this occasion. This is worth mentioning that 100 beded LNJP Eye Hospital is an ISO 9001-2015 rated modern eye hospital which cared for about 3 lac OPD patients and performed more than 70 thousand cataract surgeries since it started in the year 2005.

The inaugural program of Bagodar Vision Center was graced by Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) who talked to eye patients and took a stock of the facilities available here. He was accompanied by Mr. Gandharv Gaurav, Mr. Anand Abhinav (Program Directors), Mr. Tripan Das (Administrator, LNJPEH), Mr. Karunanidhi (In-charge, Vision Centers-LNPEH), Mr. Pankaj Kumar (Ophthalmic Assistant) and other staffs of the eye hospital.

This is the fifth Vision Center in a row by LNJP Eye Hospital. There are such centers at Hazaribag, Chatra, Sherghati (Gaya), Godda already and proved quite helpful for common people with eye problem.

21 July 2017, Chatra: Under the projects of Jharkhand Rural Eye Health & Netra Vasant by Sightsavers , Kolkata, a Vision Building workshop took place at administrative block of Sadar Hospital, Chatra. This was organized by LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital (LNJPEH) and District Blindness Control Committee jointly.

Dr. S. N. Singh (Civil Surgeon, Chatra) has presided over the workshop while Dr. Jitendra Kumar (State Program Officer, Sightsavers) was the chief guest on this occasion. He stressed over uploading of district cataract surgery data on NPCB-MIS. After a full length discussion about eye care problem in Chatra district, it was suggested that village level health workers like Sahiya Didis must be involved in identification drive for eye patients and they should be provided some basic training for such purpose. Eye Screening Camps in remote villages by LNJPEH are helpful to poor people and we will arrange for their transportation and surgery free of cost at the base hospital if found with cataract, Mr. Karunanidhi (District Program Manager, JREH) has said during the workshop.

Also other officials from LNJPEH like Mr. Tripan Das (Manager), Mr. Nitesh Thapaliyal (Assistant Manager) and Mr. Vinod Kumar Swarnkar (Camp Manager) have supported the view and assured for teamwork with District Blindness Control Committee. DBCC, Chatra was represented by Mr. Tarun Kumar (DPM), Mr. Ranjit Kumar Singh (DPC) and Mrs. Anita Kumari (BTT) in the workshop. Mrs. Fulwati Devi, Mr. Santosh Kumar, Mr. Ganesh Yadav, Mr. Kauleshwar Yadav, Mr. Dinesh and Mr. Abodh Pandey were other prominent people present in the workshop.

 

17 May 2017, Bahera (Chouparan): NBJK run Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Eye Hospital started a Diploma Course in Ophthalmic Assistance (DCOA) and admission is open from today. Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) has inaugurated a simple function on this occasion and expressed satisfaction that LNJPEH will shape up efficient eye care professionals also in coming days. He appealed the newly enrolled students to work hard in a disciplined way and said that such skilled youths will serve the community well. There were 5 students who got admission for DCOA to be started from June this year.

The course is with limited seats, costs Rs. 20,000 and covers 2 years duration with hostel facility. The trainees will have to pay for their food. The minimum eligibility for admission is +2 or Intermediate passed with Science stream and it’s open for girls and boys both.

On this occasion, Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Program Director, NBJK) has welcomed all and valued DCOA as one of the most useful course needed for eye care services. This covers systematic knowledge about all eye diseases and treatment systems within the period of two years, Mr. Gaurav informed.

The function was accompanied by Messrs Virendra Sinha (Branch Manager), Tripan Das (Hospital Manager), Vikrant Singh, Dinesh Saw, Abhishek Kr. Sinha, Pankaj Kumar, Suvendu Kr. 12-18 March 2017, Bahera: NBJK run Loknayak Jayprakash eye Hospital at village-Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag) has observed Glaucoma Week from 12 to 18 March and provided free eye check up, medical consultation, medicines and cost effective treatment for common people.

This was a SightSavers initiative by the eye hospital for rural people and we have started Glaucoma treatment unit here since last year with support of Aditya Birla Financial Services, Mumbai, Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Director, LNJPEH) has informed in a press communique by the eye hospital. He said that Glaucoma patients suffer from over fluid inside their eyes and growing backside pressure on related nerves damages side vision at first and ceases front vision later. The people with myopia, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problem become easy victim of Glaucoma, he added.

The Galucoma Week has enabled more than 700 patients to take care of their eyes as they availed free service of eye check up. On 18th March, 245 patients have gone through eye screening and their intra-ocular pressure was gauged by NCT device. Those found with high pressure were detected again by Perimetry machine. They got free medical consultation and medicines were distributed among them. The Week was organized under guidance of Dr. Alok Kumar (Ophthalmologist, LNJPEH) with support of the team included Mr. Tripan Das (Manager, LNJPEH), Mr. Karunanidhi (Asst. Manager, LNJPEH), Mrs. Anita Devi, Ms. Pinki Nidhi and Mrs. Annapurna Devi.

06 February 2017, Bahera (Chouparan): NBJK run Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Eye Hospital will commence a Diploma Course in Ophthalmic Assistance from June this year, Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Director, LNJPEH) has informed to media persons today.

In the press communiqué released today, he said about the course that offers limited seats, costs Rs. 20,000 and covers 2 years duration with hostel facility. 16 January, Hazaribag: NBJK run Loknayak Jayprakash Eye Hospital has launched a small project namely Netra Basant on rural eye care with support of Sightsavers and Bharat Financial Inclusion Ltd. This will ensure 1000 cataract operations and 500 power glasses free of cost for poor people in villages.

The project was inaugurated by Dr. Rajendra Paswan (SPO, National Program for Control of Blindness) during a function held at NBJK. He has commended the MoU with Sightsavers for blindness control program in Jharkhand and was hopeful for well implementation of Netra Basant by LNJPEH in Hazaribag and adjacent districts. Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) has welcomed all dignitaries on this occasion and informed about 24,923 OPD and 6,150 cataract surgeries by the hospital during 2016. He has mentioned about Infinity a modern phaco machine for cataract surgery and treatment facilities for Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma and Medical Retina at LNJPEH. Mr. Sudipto Mohanti (Regional Director, Sightsavers) has outlined about upcoming activities of Sightsavers under partnership of the state government and NGOs to meet eye care need in various districts of the state. He praised BFIL to sponsor Netra Basant under its CSR initiative. Mr. Abhishek Singh (Representative, BFIL) has informed about the target of 20,000 cataract surgeries for the year 2017 and said that Netra Basant will help us to deliver.   Dr. H. B. Barnwal (Civil Surgeon, Hazaribag) has mentioned regarding 2,394 cataract operations by DSCB last year and admired LNJPEH for up gradation of eye care service as well as access to rural population in the district. Also Dr. (Mrs.) Ruby Lakra (ACMO), Dr. Umesh (Eye Surgeon), Dr. Jitendra Kumar (SPO, Sightsavers), Mr. Novel Verghese (CFRO, Sightsavers), Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) and Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Program Director) have graced the function.                                                

An Eye Screening Camp was organized at NBJK premises on this occasion that drawn 275 patients from villages of Sadar, Tatijhariya, Ichak, Churchu, Daroo, Chouparan, Itkhori, Katkamsaandi blocks of the district for eye check up and 124 were found with cataract. They have been referred to LNJPEH for operation and went there by hospital bus on the same day.

avi229 November 2016, Katkamsaandi (Hazaribag): NBJK has launched a vision test campaign at schools in far flung villages  of Hazaribag district under Disability Rights program with support of AVI-BLF, UK. A vision test camp was organized for 118 students at Saraswati High School of Daroo village of Daroo block and 34 were detected with low vision symptom.

Before this, such camps were held at Birsa Saraswati High School, Daand (Katkamsaandi) on 25th, at Primary School, Nagri (Churchu) on 24th, at Project Girls’ High School, Charhi (Churchu) on 23rd and at Banadag High School, Banadag (Katkamsaandi) on 17th of the month. This vision checkup campaign has benefitted 728 school children, 90 have found with low vision problem and referred to LNJP Eye Hospital or its satellite center at Hazaribag for treatment.

At Saraswati High School, Daroo, NBJK program team has organized a quiz competition upon the issue of Disability among 103 students of class X. They were asked related questions and the very objective of community sensitization was fulfilled with the event. Total 103 students have participated in the quiz and Priti Bharti, Vipin Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Amit Kumar and Ranjana Kumari were declared as winners with position first to fifth respectively. The school teachers have appreciated the move as community sensitization towards disability.

avi2October, Hazaribag: Under Disability Rights Program with support of AVI-BLF (UK), NBJK has organized 8 quiz events during October with school students in Hazaribag, Koderma, Gaya and Giridih districts. Each district team was responsible to hold 2 quizzes in government Middle/High schools on disability issues. In Nawada district, this couldn’t be possible due to school holidays during Durga Pooja and other festivals.

Also the program team has organized vision test camps for school going children and 92 CWDs (Gaya-12, Hzb-31 and Koderma-49) have been identified for sight related problems. Most of the children can be cured with spectacles and we will line up with LNJP Eye Hospital, Chouparan soon for such specialized support, Mrs. Sujata Prasad (Program Manager) has informed.

Block level media advocacy meetings were held Barachatti (Gaya), Gandeya (Giridih), Markachcho (Koderma) during the month and 299 participants including BDO, CDPO, MLA Representative, Medical Officer, Media People, PRI Members, DPO/DSHG Members etc. have attended  these meetings to discuss entitlements and services to PwDs. All they have assured for cooperation and supported the program focused upon Rights to PwDs.
