24 April 2019, Seoul (South Korea):  Mr. Girija Satish, founder member & president of Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra (NBJK) and national president of Gandhian organization Lok Samiti, was conferred Asia Philanthropic Lifetime Achievement Award at Seoul in South Korea. The award ceremony was attended by about 100 citizens including Mr. Kim Sung-soo (Chairman, APA Committee), Mr. Lee Jong-su, Prof. Kim Young-cheol. APA Committee is like a citizens’ body in South Korea and it has been honouring people for their outstanding philanthropic works in Asia since last 5 years.

For the year 2019, APA Awards were decleared for 5 categorirs 1. Life Time Achievement 2. Philanthropist of the year 3. Fund-raiser of the year, 4. Youth Phiolanthropist of the year and 5. NPO of the Year. Among 5 seleccted awardees, 2 from S. Korea, 2 from Vietnam and 1 from India as Mr. Girija Satish, who was honoured with APA Lifetime Achievement Award during an impressive ceremony and made India proud.

On this occasion, Mr. Girija Satish has expressed sincere gratitude towards APA committee which recognized the works by NBJK at Asia level. He appreciated the event for people to people dialogue among nations of the continent and to know about each others problems, way outs and efforts to address the issues. Such program is helpful to build good relation with nearby nations, he said.

Its significant that APA Lifetime Achievement Award was offered to Mr. Girija Satish as he stood upon the criteria of contributionability, innovation, reliability and sustainability of his philanthropic works through NBJK & Lok Samiti. Thorough the programs on education, health, livelihood, support to small VOs and advocacy-networking-governance at NBJK, he contributed to better lives among more than a million people of jharkhand-Bihar directly or indirectly.

There are more than 66 thousand children associated with NBJK run schools, remedial coaching centers, programs of school sponsorship, child reporter, orphanage, NFE centers and more than 17 thousand women with SHGs, skill dev. training for 30 thousand plus youths (70% placement), creation of more than 2000 water bodies, income inancement for 2500 tribal families with farm based & allied activities, sewing machines & training for 550 village women for self-reliance, more than 5 lakhs OPD & 1 lakh cataract surgeries by LNJP eye hospital, identification of 44 thousand PwDs, disab certificates for 11 thousand plus PwDs, pension/other entitlement for 7000, livelihood support to 1600 such people and ADL/physiotherapy to 1044 children with disabilities, formation & capacity building of 85 carers groups, solid waste management for 50 thousand HHs, sanitation for 5000 slum dwellers are like feathers in his cap. Also Mr. Girija Satish has promoted more than 300 VOs and under his able leadership Lok Samiti fights against social evils like gender discrimination, dowry, communalism-casteism, liquor and works towards empowering PRIs and landless people.

17 – 20 April 2019, Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag): NBJK run LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital (LNJPEH) has launched a four phased campaign in rural areas of Gaya district to identify cataract patients and ensured their eye surgery. LNJPEH organized eye screening camps at villages namely Kurkihara, Aamas, Nimbua and Singhatiya in different blocks of the district as well as arranged transportation of the patients from their place to the hospital and viceversa.

During the period of 4 days only, 100 cataract suffering people were found and sent to the base hospital for surgery. Mr. Sudeep Abhishek (Manager, LNJPEH) has briefed that all the patients met successful cataract surgery and this campaign was supported by Mukul Madhav Foundation, the CSR partner of Finolex Industries. They sponsored 100 cataract patients for their eye surgery, he informed. On this occasion, also Mr. Vijay Kumar (Senior Sales Executive, Finolex) and Mr. Karunanidhi (Asst. Manager, LNJPEH) were present who met the patients and provided them medicines.

Its noteworthy that during last 15 years, Bahera & Dumka units of LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital have attended more than 5 lakhs patients and restored sight to 80 thousand plus cataract suffering people came from 14 districts of Jharkhand & Bihar.

13 January 2019, Bahera (Hazaribag): NBJK run Loknayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital at Bahera, Chouparan (Hazaribag) has been empanelled under Ayushman Bharat Yojna. Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Director, LNJPEH) has informed that the hospital is providing free of cost cataract surgery & other needful treatment facilities to the beneficiaries of Aushman Bharat Yojna.

He said that a patient requires to produce his/her Adhar Card, Voter Identitiy Card, Ration Card, Ayushman Card to get benefit of this scheme. LNJPEH welcomes this ambitious health support scheme for ordinary citizens of India and we hope that  poor people will get tremendous benefits by this  initiative, pointed out Mr. Gaurav.

Its noteworthy that LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital was started about 15 years back and catered more than 5 lakhs eye patients along with 80 thousand plus cataract surgeries successfully during these years.

09 January 2019, Dumka: LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital, Dumka has organized a workshop upon Eye Care in its premises. Mr. Bhagwan Das (Commissioner, Santhal Pargana) was the chief guest of this occasion, who appreciated LNJPEH for eradication of cataract in Santhal Pargana. Before this, Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) welcomed the guests and briefed them about health, education, livelihood and advocacy related programs by NBJK in different districts of Jharkhand & Bihar.

The Commissioner has visited this 50 beds hospital and observed the facilities available for eye patients. He asked the doctor to examine his eyes and seemed satisfied after the check up. Other government officials like Mr. Sudhir Kumar Gupta (Regional Development Officer, Dumka) and Ms Shweta Bharti (District Social Welfare Officer, Dumka) were present during the visit. Besides this, Aditya Birla Sunlife Insurance has provided a new medical van to LNJPEH to organize eye screening camps and for transportation of cataract patients identified in remote villages. The Commissioner shown green flag to start the medical van on duty. Mr. Devjit Banerjee (CSR Manager, Aditya Birla Sunlife) has assured to support the eye hospital for cataract surgery in future too.

Mr. Chandan Kumar (Regional Manager, Aditya Birla Sunlife), Dr. Dhiraj Kumar Vikrant (Eye Surgeon), Mr. Kamrul Hasan,  Mr. Amrit Paswan (Program Manager, NBJK), Mr. Anirban Panda, Mr. Azaz Alam,Mr. Niraj Raman, Mr. Dinesh Gupta, Md. Sharif, Mr. Pawan Kesri, Mr. Vikky Patwari and many other people were present during the event. 03 – 06 December 2018, Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag): 130 cataract patients have met their surgery under auspices of Finolex Mukul Madhav Foundation, Pune at Loknayak Jay Prakash Eye Hospital being run by NBJK at village – Bahera in Chouparan block of Hazaribag district.

On this occasion, Mr. Priya Murti (Dy. Manager, Finolex Jharkhand-Bihar) and Mr. Vijay Kumar (Sales Executive, Finolex Jharkhand-Bihar) were present to monitor the patients & their cataract surgery at the hospital. Mr. Vijay has informed about the target of 100 cataract operations during phase I of their CSR initiative towards free of cost vision restoration among needy people. Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) applauded the support from Finolex Mukul Madhav Foundation for sight return of poor people through cataract surgery by LNJPEH. He said that our organization is committed to serve poor & helpless people. Mr. Gandharv Gaurav (Director, LNJPEH) has assured about advance treatment facility like retina surgery and eye transplant by the hospital in near future. LNJPEH is providing quality eye care service to people of Jharkhand as well as from Bihar and earned a good reputation for cataract eradication in its coverage area, he said. Mr. Karunanidhi (Asst. Manager, LNJPEH) has shared about the anti-cataract drive in villages by the hospital and people’s response.

A team of Dr. Umesh Kumar, Dr. Alok Kumar, Dr. Dhiraj Vikrant, Vinod Kumar Swarnkar, Vikrant Singh, Ujjwal Thakur, Mantu Rajak, Abhishek Singh, Dinesh Ram and Sanjay Rajak have worked hard make the campaign successful and vision  restored to all 130 people suffering from cataract.

31 August 2018, Bahera (Chouparan, Hazaribag): NBJK run Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Eye Hospital organized a thanksgiving ceremony at its premises to honor Mr. Jayant Sinha (Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation), Mr. Sanjeev Jindal (GM, Engg. & CSR) – Airport Authority of India and Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Beooria (Airport Director, Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi) for financial support worth Rs. 22 lacs to purchase the Optical Biometer, an advance equipment for eye check up purpose. Its remarkable that merely 6 months back, Mr. Sinha has promised to provide such an apparatus to the hospital during his last visit during inaugural function of Spectacles & Medicines Centers in the hospital campus.

Mr. Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) welcomed the honorable minister, his supporters and AAI Officials at the dais and praised Mr. Sinha for the pomise he kept as providing an Optical Biometer for the people suffering from cataract & other eye related complications. He valued the contribution for a cause and thanked all others also associated with this process. Mr. Janyant Sinha said that any good objective never lacks means for its accomplishment and this applies here as NBJK intends to serve the people through LNJP Eye Hospital. This will add to health facilities along with coming projects of Medical College-Hospital and Akshay Patra program with nutritious mid day meal for 1 lac school children in Hazaribag district, he expressed. The minister has insisted NBJK management to open another eye hospital at Ramgarh district also.

Mr. Sanjeev Jindal (GM, Engg. & CSR) – AAI, has assured for more support for development of Hazaribag on priority basis and launching of Akshay Patra from November 2018.

On this occasion, Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Beooria (Airport Director, Ranchi) and Mr. Satish Girija (Secreatary, NBJK) have signed the MoU and exchanged the documents for the said CSR support. At last, messrs Jayant Sinha, Sanjeev Jindal, Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Beooria and others have handed in the cheque in favour of Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra to Mr. Satish Girija publicly.

The function was attended by Mrs. Sabi Devi, Mr. Tunu Gope, Mr. Mahavir Saw, Mr. Surendra Sinha, Mr. Sanjeev Katriwar, Mr. Rajesh Sahay, Mr. Gajadhar Prasad and many other dignitaries of the area. LNJP Eye Hospital team was comprised of Messrs Gandharv Gaurav (Program Manager), Tripan Das (Hospital Manager), Karuna Nidhi (Asst. Manager) and others who organized the event successfully.

27 February 2018, Bahera Ashram, Chouparan (Hazaribag): Mr. Jayant Sinha, Lok Sabha Member from Hazaribag & Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, has inaugurated the newly built Medicine & Specs centres of LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital. Messrs Girija Satish (President, NBJK), Satish Girija (Secretary, NBJK) and LNJPEH staffs have received honourable minister and his companions in hospital premises.

Mr. Sinha was honoured with a shawl and memento during a simple function held on this occassion. Mr. Satish Girija has presented an overview of the works delivered by NBJK during it’s long journey since 1971 and requested the MP to provide an Optometric Machine for eye hospital. The hospital has served more than 2 lakhs 68 thousand eye patients, restored eye sight of around 81 thousand cataract patients at subsidized rate or free of cost, Mr. Satish Girija mentioned. Mr. Umashankar Akela (Ex-MLA) has appreciated NBJK’s initiative in the fields like education, livelihood, mass awareness, health care and it’s concern for common people.

Mr. Jayant Sinha too has shown great respect for the works by NBJK in rural areas, particularly for running a modern eye hospital at a village. He promised to provide an Optometric Machine for the hospital and informed the people about ongoing projects of Akshay Patra (for nutritious mid-day meal in schools) and the Medical College-cum-Hospital with 500 beds at Hazaribag. The minister requested NBJK management to start another eye hospital at Ramgarh district also and offered his full support for the cause.

Many prominent persons like Messrs Amit Shrivastava (BDO, Chouparan), Manish Kumar (DSP, Barhi), Rajnath Alok (SDO, Barhi) and political aides of Mr. Sinha were present in the inaugural ceremony.

20 February 2018, Chouparan (Hazaribag): LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital, Bahera Ashram (Chouparan) has organized one-day training for village health workers or Sahiyas upon Early Eye Care under the programme of Netra Basant for Jharkhand Rural Eye Health project with support of Sightsavers, Kolkata.

The training camp was inaugurated by Mr. Karunanidhi (District Programme Manager, Hazaribag & Chatra), Mr. Jageshwar Sharma (Block Programme Manager), Mr. Ravi Ranjan, Mr. Ganpati Kumar and others at Community Health Centre, Chouparan. Mr. Karunanidhi was the resource person for this training who provided important tips to detect low vision and cataract among people particularly old aged persons at their early stages. He said that Sahiyas can be instrumental for identification of eye patients in villages if provided adequate training and simple instruments. He demonstrated about the Vision Chart and it’s application to detect eye problems at home even and to consult any eye hospital for further treatment. Such complications shouldn’t be overlooked and need immediate medical intervention to protect one’s vision, he pointed out.

There were 182 Sahiyas from villages of Chouparan block who participated in this early eye care training and shown interest in their capacity building to support needy people uncared usually. Messrs Polak Paik, Vinod Swarnkaar, Savita Devi, Nisha Devi, Manju Devi and many others have contributed to the event.

07 January 2018, Dumka: 125th birth anniversary of late Mrs. Janki Devi Bajaj was celebrated with community eye care service by LokNayak JayPrakash Eye hospital. Padma Vibhushana Mrs. Bajaj was wife of Late Mr. Jamnalal Bajaj, a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi and herself worked with Sant Vinoba on Bhoodan movement.

On this pious occasion, LNJPEH has organized Eye screening camp at village-Bada Dumariya under Masalia block of Dumka district. A day before, the hospital team has started publicity campaign in the area, announced for eye camp and made people aware about the event. The screening camp was inaugurated by local Mukhiya and 47 people (21 females, 26 males) went under eye check up by the doctors. There were 30 people ((12 females, 18 males) identified with cataract. On 8th, all these have met eye surgery at the hospital to remove cataract. On 9th January, a simple closing ceremony was organized at LNJPEH with invitees like Mr. Abhijit Kashyap (Branch Manager-Bajaj Finance, Dumka), Mr. Deepak Kumar (Asst. Branch Manager-Bajaj Finance, Dumka) and Mr. Mukesh Kumar (Bajaj Automobiles, Dumka).

On behalf of NBJK, Mr. Anand Abhinav (Programme Director) greeted the guests and briefed about  the life of late Janki Devi Bajaj. She will be remembered time and again due to her spirit of social activism and simplicity, Mr. Abhinav remarked. Mr. Abhijit Kashyap appreciated NBJK and LNJPEH for community eye care, a major step towards healthy society. Both of them have distributed medicine and spectacle kitbags  among cataract operated patients. Mr. Samir Kumar Bera (Branch Manager, NBJK-Dumka) has delivered vote of thanks and Mr. Sudarshan Pandey (Senior Staff-NBJK, Dumka) anchored the dais. Dr. Mohan Lal (Ophthalmologist), Mr. Aniban Panda, Mr. Himanshu Kumar and Mr. Sita Ram Yadav were present during the celebration.

16 November 2017, Chouparan (Hazaribag): NBJK run Loknayak Jay Prakash Eye Hospital has organized a special Diabetes Camp on the occasion of World Diabetes Day celebrated by the hospital with support of Sightsavers, Kolkata.

There were 152 males, 110 females, 16 youths (10 males & 6 females) patients turned up for initial checkup and consultation by Dr. Alok Kumar (Ophthalmologist, LNJPEH). 81 have been found with diabetes, went under Retina checkup and 20 were detected with Diabetic Retinopathy.

All of them have availed requisite treatment free of cost by the hospital. Messrs Girija Satish (President, NBJK), Gandharv Gaurav (Program Director), Tripan Das (Hospital Administrator), Karunanidhi (In-charge, Vision Centers) were present on the occasion and Mr. Girija Satish has assured for all possible assistance for needy eye patients by the hospital.

Its noteworthy that LNJPEH has entertained 26000 OPD patients and 512 patients of Diabetic Retinopathy last year. Cumulatively it has treated around 3 lacs eye patients and restored vision of more than 70,000 people suffering from cataract since its inception in the year 2005.
