27 March 2024, Bodhgaya (Gaya): We’re happy to share that 16 dynamic women from Jharkhand and Bihar recently completed the Local Resource Persons’ training under the Usha Silai School Program by NBJK with the support of Usha International Limited!

Hosted at the NBJK premises in Bodhgaya on March 19-20, 2024, this intensive two-day training equipped participants with invaluable skills in Data Maintenance and MIS. They delved into various modes & modules of Usha Silai School Trainings, including Classical, Adopt, Satellite, and Partnership variants.

What’s truly inspiring is that these trainees, hailing from Munger, Bhojpur, Lakhisarai, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Hazaribagh, and Giridih, are now poised to become local resource persons, empowering women through tailoring training in their communities.

06 October 2023, Hazaribagh: Under the Usha Silai School program run by NBJK in collaboration with Usha International Ltd., rural women have been provided inclusive training in new sewing machine along with its working, servicing, designing of clothes, cutting, sewing on machine and making various dresses.

In this sewing training organized at the NBJK coordination office premises from 25th September to 03rd October, two batches of total 25 women from two blocks like Tandwa of Chatra and Mandu in Ramgarh districts were trained separately. 15 trainees from Tandwa were sponsored by NTPC, while 10 women from Mandu participated in this residential training under the Usha Classical mode. Along with them, a woman from Aurangabad (Bihar) also received training in the Adopt mode. Earlier, during the period of 21-29 September, 15 women of Lakhisarai Sadar block in Lakhisarai (Bihar) were given similar training in Usha Classical Mode.

Each of these 41 women has received a new sewing machine along with accessories, certificate, guidebook and signboard of Usha Silai School so that they can increase their income by running a sewing school in their home or locality.

On behalf of UIL, Mrs. Sandhya Agarwal, Mrs. Meera Tripathi, Mrs. Sarita Devi (trainers), Mr. Kamaljeet Sharma, Mr. Gopal Mishra, Mr. Himanshu Pandey (Service Engineers), Mr. Ritesh Lohani (Program Officer-Bihar), Mr. Felix Tirkey (Program Officer-Jharkhand) were involved in the training. Along with them Mr. Shailesh Kumar (Program Coordinator), Ms. Neelu Kumari (Local Coordinator, Lakhisarai) and Mr. Mithilesh Kumar (Branch Manager) from NBJK had commendable contributions.

20 March 2023, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribagh): The Usha Silai School program by NBJK in collaboration with Usha International Ltd., has begun a nine-day residential training course for rural women under Adopt Silai School Teachers segment. The program aims to provide skill development opportunities and livelihoods to women, ultimately leading to their empowerment.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Rajeev Singh, Senior Program Manager at NBJK, and Mrs. Pammi Devi, a Certified Trainer from Usha Company, who lit the ceremonial lamp. During the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Singh encouraged the women trainees to take advantage of the opportunity to gain mastery in tailoring.

The training to be continued up to March 28th will provide in-depth knowledge about sewing machines, their functions, cutting, stitching, and garment making. At the end, each participant will receive a new sewing machine, guide books for machine and tailoring, a certificate from Usha Company, and a Signage board of Usha Silai School. This will enable them to operate their Silai Schools independently and teach tailoring skills professionally.

The training course is being attended by seven women, including five from Hazaribagh, one from Ramgarh, and one from Chhapra (Bihar).

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Mr. Felix Tirkey (State Program Officer, UIL), Mr. Gopal Mishra (Service Engineer, UIL), Mr. Ankit Anurag (Project Manager, NBJK), and Mr. Shailesh Kumar (Project Coordinator, NBJK).

This employment-oriented initiative is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of rural women, enabling them to become financially independent and contribute to their families’ and communities’ growth.

18 Marcch 2023, Ormanjhi (Ranchi):  Under Usha Silai School Programme by NBJK with support of Usha International Limited, ex-trainees and now the teachers of their Usha Silai Schools have visited Kishor Exports, a textile manufacturing unit at Ormanjhi, Ranchi.

The exposure visit was arranged by SIDBI and 23 women entrepreneurs as 15 from Hazaribagh while 8 from Ranchi districts have observed modus operandi of this export based garments making division of Kishor Exports which is a SA-8000 & GOTS certified garments & home-wear Manufacturing Company for 100% organic apparels & home textile products.

Through the exposure visit, Usha Siali School Teachers got an opportunity to watch large scaled garments making process and became motivated towards doing something big in future.

Team SIDBI was comprised by Mr. Anup Kumar Vishwakarma (Manager), Mrs. Nisha Smita Kujur (Manager) and Mr. Sandeep Kumar. Mr. Felix Tirkey (State Programme Manager, UIL) and Mr. Shailesh Kumar (Project Co-ordinator, NBJK) were present on the occasion.

08 December 2022, Jharkhand-Bihar: Usha Silai School Program by NBJK with support of Usha International Limited, New Delhi is playing an important role to improve socio-economic condition of rural, tribal and needy women through extensive training upon skills of tailoring, sewing machine maintenance and customer relation as well as by providing them new sewing machine, guidebook, signboard with course completion certificate to initiate Usha Silai Schools.

During 2021-22, 10 events of 85 days residential training to 258 women (tribal-180) from Nawada, Khagariya, Munger, Hazaribagh, Gumla, Simdega, West Singhbhum, Khunti, Latehar, Lohardaga, Giridih districts of Bihar-Jharkhand under Classical & Adopt segments and 08 days residential training to 100 women trainees (tribal-60) from Hazaribagh, Gumla, Khunti & West Singhbhum districts under the category of Usha Silai Satellite School including 10 days residential training to 12 Master Trainers from Hazaribagh, Patna, Gaya & Bhagalpur districts show the magnitude of this program.

All trained women have started Usha Silai Schools at their places, offer tailoring training & service to village women-girls. The program team’s members make follow up visits of Usha Silai Schools to monitor their performance.

The program could promote total 717 Usha Silai Schools and 257 Satellite Schools across 47 districts of Bihar-Jharkhand till this year. It facilitated total 974 rural women towards economic self-reliance with skill development and all required means to earn Rs. 5,000-10,000 monthly with dignity.

29 November 2022, Ranchi-Godda: Under Usha Silai School program by NBJK with support of Usha International Limited, 30 rural women are learning tailoring skills deeply to open Usha Ssilai Schools at their respective places.

The training has been started at Chakla (Ranchi) with Sundarpaharii (Godda) on 24th November simultaneously and will end on 2nd December 2022.

At Ranchi, a batch of 15 women trainees have joined this residential setup under guidance of Mrs. Pammi Devi (Master Trainer, UIL) and Mr. Gopal Kumar Mishra (Service Engineer, UIL) while other batch of 15 women at Godda are being trained by UIL’s master trainer Mrs. Anita Soreng and Service Engineer Mr. Balveer Sharma.

Besides designing, cutting and stitching of popular dresses, the trainees get exposure to the functioning of parts in any sewing machine, their disbanding & assembling along with minor repair or changing components if required. Also they learn life skills for business acumen.

The very objective is to enable the women to teach their learnt skill to other aspirants as well as to work as a professional tailor. In both the ways, they can enhance their income with self-employment.

After completion of the training, each participant will get an Usha Sewing machine, a signage board, service mannual book, syllabus, Guide Book and Silai School Teachers’ certificate.

08 November 2022, Hazaribagh: As an activity of Usha Silai School program by NBJK with support of Usha International Limited, a 9-days residential sewing/tailoring training has been started on 7th November for 11 women as 10 women from Giridih Sadar, Bengabad & Jamua blocks of Giridih district and 01 woman from Ichak block of Hazaribagh district under classical & adopted segments respectively.

The training was inaugurated by Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) who encouraged the trainees and called tailoring as a suitable means of self-employment. He said that some trained women under the program earn even Rs. 20-25,000 monthly and run their families in a better way. Mr. Felix Tirkey (State Program Manager), Mrs. Renu Devi (Master Trainer) and Mr. Kamaljeet Sharma (Service Engineer) from Usha International were present on the occasion.

During the training, trainee women will learn about different parts of the sewing machine, their assembling & minor repair as well as designs, cutting & making of various popular apparels with customer handling skills to become full time professional tailors.

After completion of their training, each trainee will get a new Usha sewing machine, a signage board of Usha Silai School, service mannual book, syllabus, guidebook and certificate as they are supposed to initiate Usha Silai School at their own places.

10 August 2022, Hazaribagh: The women associated with Usha Silai School program by NBJK with support of Usha International Ltd, are contributing to “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign significantly.

Mrs. Nusrat Parveen, Mrs. Shanti Devi Mrs. Pammi Devi, Mrs. Renu Devi, Mrs. Sazida Khatoon and Mrs. Bhawna Preeti from Noora, Pasai, Mandai Khurd, Salgawan, Guruwa and Ompuri areas/villages respectively of Hazaribagh Sadar block, those run Usha Silai School at their places have shouldered the responsibility of making 1000 tricolor flags as each.

All 6000 flags are being made of Khadi cloth with financial aid from SIDBI. The national flags will be distributed at houses on 13th August with help of Mukhiya of the panchayat.

23 March 2022, Amrit Nagar (Hazaribagh): Mrs. Mamta Kumari, a beneficiary selected and trained under Usha SIlai School program by NBJK with support of Usha International Limited, has received second sewing machine to enrich her Silai School she runs at her home.

Today Mr. Girija Satish (President, NBJK) handed over a new sewing machine to Mrs. Mamta Kumari at NBJK coordination office and wished her all success.

Mrs. Mamta (26 years) belongs to village-Bodhiya, block-Tatijhariya and district-Hazaribagh. Her husband Mr. Rajesh Rana is a small farmer-cum-carpenter. The couple has two kids as a daughter (5 years) and a son (3 years). Mamta’s daughter goes to a local English medium school.

In February 2021, she has been picked by NBJK staff in her remote village as a potential trainee for 7 days residential Adopt Silai School Teachers Training activity held under the program. Before that she was known to a little about stitching by machine but the training enabled her to be proficient on sewing machine and dexterous with garments making. Also she went to know about minor repairs if the machine breaks down.

After successful completion of training, Mamta got a new sewing machine from UIL as per program’s mandate and started an Usha Silai School. Soon some neighborhood girls have joined her school to learn tailoring. She initiated garments making for village women and the school earned a good reputation gradually.

Within the period of last one year, Mamta has trained 15 girls on tailoring, made a number of different garments for women customers and currently her monthly income dwells in between Rs. 7,000-9,000 as an average.

With help of this second sewing machine, I can enhance volume of my work as well as earnings, she says.

18 October 2021, Dumka: Under NBJK run #UshaSilaiSchool program, 9 days residential training upon Sewing Machine Maintenance & Tailoring started at NBJK, Dumka.

The training is exclusively for ST community and 20 tribal women from villages of Dumka Sadar, Masaliya and Kathikund blocks have joined the program as trainees. Besides getting skills to fix faults in sewing machine and making of different dresses, they are attending personality development sessions also to improve their customer relation as promising entrepreneurs. Mrs. Pammi Devi and Mrs. Renu Devi are trainers for this batch. The training will last on 26 October 2021.

Mr. Felix Tirkey (Program Officer, Usha International), Mr. Shailesh Kumar (Program Coordinator, NBJK) and Mr. Rajesh Sharma (Program Coordinator, NBJK) played active role to organize the training.
