20 February 2018, Chouparan (Hazaribag): LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital, Bahera Ashram (Chouparan) has organized one-day training for village health workers or Sahiyas upon Early Eye Care under the programme of Netra Basant for Jharkhand Rural Eye Health project with support of Sightsavers, Kolkata.
The training camp was inaugurated by Mr. Karunanidhi (District Programme Manager, Hazaribag & Chatra), Mr. Jageshwar Sharma (Block Programme Manager), Mr. Ravi Ranjan, Mr. Ganpati Kumar and others at Community Health Centre, Chouparan. Mr. Karunanidhi was the resource person for this training who provided important tips to detect low vision and cataract among people particularly old aged persons at their early stages. He said that Sahiyas can be instrumental for identification of eye patients in villages if provided adequate training and simple instruments. He demonstrated about the Vision Chart and it’s application to detect eye problems at home even and to consult any eye hospital for further treatment. Such complications shouldn’t be overlooked and need immediate medical intervention to protect one’s vision, he pointed out.
There were 182 Sahiyas from villages of Chouparan block who participated in this early eye care training and shown interest in their capacity building to support needy people uncared usually. Messrs Polak Paik, Vinod Swarnkaar, Savita Devi, Nisha Devi, Manju Devi and many others have contributed to the event.
